Was very fortunate to pick up this original cover art before Alex Ross gained too much notoriety.  It is the original cover art to the special edition fifth book of Kingdom Come, "Revelations".

As I don't have a lot of artwork, I'm not sure how to estimate the value.  Was curious if there were any estimates from those more familiar with original artwork.

    Thanks, Seth.

gorgeous! not sure of the size, but imagine it's normal Ross size (11x17). His DC work from that era tends to have strong appeal, and while I'm no expert, I'd say 15-$20k is the price range for this. Congrats on owning this wonderful piece

    Hey! I'm new here!

I was wondering if anyone had any dealings with Spencer Beck? I didn't really have a good outcome, I e-mailed him in September about a question about George Perez' commissions, I wasn't planning to buy anything but I did send an example to him of what I wanted but just as a general query which was 700 in total, then I got an invoice from him but I didn't think of anything, I thought that had to be filled out once I got the money together and he would give it to Perez, not the other way around, which is what happened (and later Beck told me that is unacceptable, despite the fact many art dealers and artists I've dealt with did that), So not trying to disappoint or say anything which would cause drama and I didn't want to start drama, I said I would be able to get 700 to him, unfortunately since then (six months), I've been having many problems with bills and my home, my house is on the verge of being foreclosed, So I tried to hold the commission off and tried to keep promises I couldn't keep because something came up and didn't give updates because I thought it would be fine once I paid, when I did, and also I don't want to tell anyone about my personal problems, I don't really care now anymore,  So anyway I got a message from him telling me how I was being unfair to him and Mr. Perez and threaten to blackmail me from his artist because of this mess, It was never my idea to being disrespectful but who would want to disappoint someone, I wasn't going to say I can't pay it after he sent the invoice,  So I did respond to him and told him about why I couldn't pay and so on (He did go on saying the e-mails were rude and disrespectful with some swears, True, but I didn't swear at him, I was saying how hard it was to do this and trying to be committed and they way he e-mailed me I thought I was being disrespected because of the stuff I'm going through, and I was still trying to pay), So then he went on saying:

"You received an invoice on 09/23/17 ... if you did not want it or could not afford it, you should have said something then. Not waited until you got an email three weeks later saying it was completed." I couldn't because he didn't say I had to pay or anything and I thought that was for when I was ready for pay and Perez would start, not the other way around, he really wasn't specific and when I told him And I didn't expect him to go ahead when I didn't think I ordered anything, So I messaged him back, apologized, got nothing back, so that's my story.

Has anyone else gone through this with this guy as well?

Look man, you sound like you're going through some trying times so please don't take this as piling on. But I always think it helps to view a situation from the opposite point of view. How would you feel if  you were Perez's rep and you told your client to do a commission, taking time out of his schedule to do it, only to then find out AFTER its done that the client can't pay for it? I bet you would be a bit upset. I've seen Perez work; he's deliberate and he puts 100% effort into his commissions. He also has been in failing health and so, its not as easy as one might think to sit down and draw. So you have to take that into account. If you weren't clear about when the artist would start the commission, you should have asked.

Again, it sounds like your personal financial difficulties are pretty bad. There's no shame in that, or in admitting that. And its admirable that you were trying to honor your commitment. But you should have been more proactive in telling Spencer when it became apparent you could not. I've bought art off Spencer before and he's connected me with various artists he reps. with me, he's always been upfront and easy to deal with. Can't speak for others. Just my two cents.

Most important, I hope your situation improves.

I've just always liked the image, and part of it is sentimental.   Bought a copy when I was maybe... 13 or 14 (?) at Wizardry Games (long since defunct) for the princely sum of $15, and that was one of the most expensive comics I purchased back then.    I bought a #94 the same day for an astronomical $75 and I liked the 102 better :insane:

I'm in the same boat. I LOVE #102 ... nobody drew Juggernaut like Cockrum. Awesome comic AND cover art!

  4. interesting issue. I live in Miami, and the room where I hang up some of my art I tend to keep fairly dark, with the shades drawn. But I haven't thought to check the back of the frame to see if heat is getting through the walls. Our place isn't quite as vintage as yours, Glen, but I'll be checking that when I get back home.

  5. It took me until revisiting the Fourth World books in my 30s to finally 'get' what Kirby was doing with his 70s DC work. As a kid, I was completely turned off by it. When I re-read the series and saw the art through more experienced eyes, I was floored.

I also didn't get Sienkiewicz on New Mutants, either. Took me years to finally appreciate how insanely creative that run was.

All respect to Mr Lee, but why do artists let this situation arise? All this does is make Jim look bad, regardless of if this is 100% him or not.

How does this make him look bad? Fans ask him ALL THE TIME to do commissions, and now he's doing them. It's not cheap because he's a top talent who recognizes the value his artwork has on the secondary market. He doesn't owe anyone free or discounted art (and BTW, Jim probably gives away more free sketches than any other highly collectible artist).  I just never understand when people get upset when an artist aggressively prices his art. No one is forcing anyone to buy it.

    Hi all,

Was really excited about this new acquisition. Not it hand just yet but I couldn't wait to post it!

Cover to the Jack Kirby Collector #41. Large art measuring 13 x 21- the largest image Kirby created of Black Panther. This piece hung at the Kirbys home for many years. Now it will hang in mine :)

    Thanks for looking!

I myself have heard numerous tales.

Some say John romita still has it.

Some say Stan Lee has it.

There is another person who claims a certain Collector from the U.K. has it.

Burkey would know better than me, but I'm all but certain John Romita doesn't have the ASM #39 cover. I've been to his house and spent the afternoon with John and Virginia, and it wasn't there. I mean, he could have it under lock & key and out of sight, but I doubt it.

Here's an update and outcome for the piece.  So, Dave sent me the piece and I received it.  I know that Dave had offered the piece to me for $2,000 after all the misunderstanding, but I paid him the $2,500 I originally offered.  That's what I felt was a good offer and we both had accepted that price and I did not want to take advantage of Dave nor get him into an awkward position with his consigner, so I paid up.  But, now I have the piece, very happy with it.

Dang, that is a BEAUTIFUL cover! Nice pick up .... I'm glad all turned out well for everyone. I've bought several pages from Dave in the past and never had an issue.
