  1. I am not sure I am allowed to post here as I am NOT a "long time" board member, however, I just had to say what a great set of books you have there. Daredevil is awesome and those are some fine examples. Beautiful! Congrats!
  2. Thank you! I have been trying to resist this. What an awesome cover. Congrats.
  3. I received an email from Chuck yesterday. In part it said..... "The good news is that I am unearthing an abundance of issues that I purchased during my West Coast buying trip that are filling key gaps in our website offerings. To provide but one example, I unearthed a near-complete run of the Star Wars (1977) series yesterday afternoon. We already had individual copies of most of these issues in stock, but those newly-found treasures will help us to fill in many gaps in the spread of grades that we can offer you. That makes a big difference to me, as my goal is not only to have every comic book printed since 1956 in stock, but also to offer you as broad of a range of price options as possible. In that regard, excellent progress was made." I found this interting in many ways. 1) I never really thought of MH as the place to go for books from 1956. I concede that they have a great selection of modern books, however, I had typically found their SA and GA selection, shall we say "lacking". IMO. 2) He states that he wants to "offer you as broad a range of price options as possible". This may be true IF by broad range you simply mean a wide price difference between high and low grades EVEN IF ALL THOSE PRICES ARE INSANELY HIGH at ANY grade. So, I went to the MH web site to see about both the selection and pricing of books from 1956. As many of you know, I am a big fan of Action Comics and so I decided to look at Action Comics from 1956 (issues 212 - 223). To my great surprise, Chuck actually had seven (7) of these twelve (12) books in stock. That is pretty good. IMO. I then went to MCS and found them to have eleven (11) of these twelve (12) books in stock. @mycomicshop. Much better, but still I will give Chuck credit for having a decent selection of 1956 Action Comics. Now to pricing. Issue 212 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 1 copy in CGC 3.0 for $140 Issue 213 - MH - 1 copy in G for $1,407 (I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this) - MCS - 1 copy in CGC 4.0 for $150 Issue 214 - MH - 1 copy in VG for $3,072 (OK, now we really are getting ridiculous) - MCS - 3 copies from Poor to VG/FN from $13.50 to $190 Issue 215 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 3 copies for immediate sale Issue 216 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - Not in Stock Issue 217 - MH - Not is Stock - MCS - 2 copies Issue 218 - MH - 1 copy in Fair - $705 - MCS 2 copies Fair - $52 and CGC 3.0 for $125 Issue 219 - MH 1 copy in Fair - $705 - MCS - 3 copies from $44 - $275 (the $275 is for a CGC 6.0) Issue 220 - MH - 1 copy in Good - $1,407 - MCS - 3 copies from $44 - $135 Issue 221 - MH - 1 copy in Good for $1,155 - MCS - 3 copies from $13 - $250 Issue 222 - MH - Not in Stock - MCS - 2 copies from $80 - $225 Issue 223 - MH - 1 copy in Fair fo $578 - MCS - 3 copies in 3.5 for $99.95 - $125 SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps Chuck's plan to have every book from 1956 on up is to price them SO HIGH (MILE HIGH) that no one can afford them. That way they will stay in stock.
  4. I admit, I would like to go and see this place in person. I am assuming he does not charge admission (probably should not give him any ideas) and so it wouldn't cost me anything just to look and enjoy the vast quantity of material he has acquired.
  5. What a great book. If someone has not read this, they are missing out. It is a great read and a great piece of comic history. Thanks to the OP for offering these here on the boards.
  6. Looking through this thread, I didn't see a copy of this book. Please forgive the poor photography.
  7. Welcome to the Boards. Always happy to see another collector join us here. BTW - Awesome books - Congrats.
  8. Thank you, sir. If you and Sharon both give it positive feedback than I am happy to give it a try. It would be great to have something decent to watch. I tried that Katy Keene show when it first came out. After about 10 or 15 minutes, I shut it off. Glad they didn't waste film making more than one season of that. I am a big fan of Stargirl. I watch it with my daughter and it seems to have good, wholesome messages; the kind of things I want my children to be taught.
  9. I cannot agree more that Stargirl has not yet fallen into the pit that most of their other shows are in. In fact, I cannot wait until the next season starts. So far I give it an A+. I only saw pieces of the pilot episode of the Superman and Lois show. If you say it is better than Batwoman (give that an F), Kung Fu (another F), and Flash (give that a C), then maybe I will give it a watch. I do still watch Supergirl, which I find better than Batwoman, Kung Fu, and Flash, but nowhere near the level of Stargirl.
  10. IMO the CW must have a single set of writers who write ALL their shows (or at a minimum all the ones that I have watched).
  11. After the most recent episode, I deleted this show from any further recordings on the DVR.
  12. Price is everything! I would be willing to buy any condition book IF the price were right. If it was an Action 1 it could be brittle, mouse chewed, cat peed, and come from a house full of chain smokers. Just as long as the price matches the condition.
  13. What about Super Chuck (Mile High Comics) super ability to acquire more low value comics than anyone in the world and then price them at levels higher than Superman can jump???
  14. What a great book! Being a "math guy", I wondered what kind of a "return on investment" that would be. Some child's parents probably gave him a dime, back in 1940, and told him he should not waste his money on comic books. The child buys the book and now it has a FMV of $83K. How many other investments return an average of over 18.3% for 81 years? Good luck selling this awesome piece of comic history.
  15. I am not sure there are MORE collectors out there buying books. I am rather certain that many collectors who were once in their 20s and 30s with mortgages and babies, are now "older" and in poessesion of more "disposable income". This may be one of the key factors in the rise in "value".
  16. Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification and for taking all the time to write this up.
  17. I am not sure about all the rules for HOS. Thankfully these nominations do not come up as often as PL. Is it acceptable for Domo to nominate Dylan or does the aggrieved party (in this case @Polonsky have to make the nomination)? Just want to make sure everything is done in accordance to the rules.
  18. $10 . Seriously, this is absurd (as was the $12 nomination previously mentioned). If people don't care enough about their word to keep to their commitments, then why would anyone want to do business with them. If people would break their word over $10 or $12, then I am rather certain they would break it over larger sums as well. Once money becomes your master, that is a hard path to ever come off. Personally, I don't care if the tranaction was for a nickle (5 cents), if a person does not make good on the deal, then they should be nominated and kept on the list until they resolve the issue. As to those member who choose to be on the "lists" that are kept here (and make no mistake, it is a CHOICE to be on the list), you should be ashamed of yourselves.
  19. Words cannot express what you are going through right now and I am certain that I do not have the right words to bring you comfort. Please know, however, that I am saddened by your loss and can only imagine the grief you must be experiencing. I will pray for you and your family.
  20. I believe the great detectives of the board have answered all the questions far better than I could have. I want to thank the OP for sharing this really cool piece of comic history. Awesome find. I also want to thank everyone who took the time to research the other information found in this thread. I found it a great read. When I first started reading the thread and saw "Letter to Superman", I was a little confused by the 1939 date, as I am pretty certain the first "letters to the editor" page did not show up until Action #245 (in 1958). Then I read further and saw that it was likely for the Superman club. That makes sense. Once again, a great read and a great find.
  21. 100% agree with this. or as we wrote before we had these "like" buttons..... +1
  22. This entire thread makes me sad; seriously sad. Given the book is now listed for sale (at a significant increase) leaves little doubt (at least in my mind) that RS was motivated by $$$$ and not simply the desire to keep the book for his own collection. Not that either reason would be acceptable, however, purely breaking your word for profit just makes me sad. This was a deal made here on the boards (which is kind of like "family"). How does one get up in the morning and decide to cheat someone else, let alone cheat someone who is part of their "family"? I am saddened by this. I have never had a problem with Greg Reese. In fact I have purchased from him a number of times. I have always found him to be a good and honorable man. A good faimly man. I wonder if he knows about this entire situation and the history behind this book. I believe Greg is a man who always honors his word and I would be curious to know his thoughts on this. I would like to know if he would still be willing to list this book if he knew what RS had done. @gregreece
