Today (July 1) is Canada Day mates!
Here’s the vintage 1992 poster art from Alpha Flight-- Marvel’s super-team of Canadian mutants-- pencilled and inked by Pat Broderick. Quite popular poster also reprinted for Marvel ads in various comics and magazines. Oh Canada!

My strategy is if I have to have it, I keep bidding till I win it. If I just want it I put my max in before live and let it roll.
I always win with first method. I rarely win with second.
My strategy is to avoid bidding against a Gator...

Happy Father’s Day everyone. At last month’s LiveCon, I picked up a fun 70s splash featuring “The Origin of Spider-man” by Jim Mooney.

The HA description mentions X-Factor #67 (1991) includes a battle over the future of young Nathan Summers and the “time-twisting origin of Cable”. However, X-Men 201 is recognized as first Cable as Nathan Summers and was published 5 years earlier than this page from X-Factor #67.

Lately, I've tweaked my approach to reflect today's frothy market conditions. For prep, I try to prioritize and limit my targets to just 3 pieces on Thurs and 3 pieces on Sat-- otherwise, I'm scattering bids with minimal/no chances of winning-- with a goal to pick up 2 pieces (1 major, 1 minor) every auction. If one target goes above my price ceiling in pre-live bidding (happens alot more these days), I'll replace with the next prioritized lot. Depending on results on my targets , I then focus on other pieces "downstream" in the lot order for each session.

With HA’s anime auction coming up, I wanted to share my Shogun Warriors #5 cover (1979) by Herb Trimpe and Al Milgrom. Shogun Warriors was a line of Japanese robot toys licensed by Mattel during the late 1970s based on then-popular anime shows. Only the 2nd cover on CAF from the title.

It’s all about value, specifically compelling prices. It took a few episodes for Mike and Anthony to price closer to market to sell in 30 seconds instead of 30 days (if ever) on their websites, they eventually got to ~50% sell thru rate. Excited to see how Glen and Bechara approach pricing for these early shows.

For me, nothing says 1970s Marvel like a classic Kirby Black Panther cover. For Black Panther #8 (1977), Kirby drew a huge image of T'Challa looming protectively over his family. MCU rumors are that the sequel BP film entitled "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" will explore the "mythology" of Wakanda and focus on characters. within T'Challa's extended family. If so, we'll get a closer look at Ishanta, Joshua Itobo, Khanata, N'Gassi, Zuni and Jakarra-- most are introduced in this issue.

Mike Grell WARLORD #25 pp2-3 (1979) DPS
A stunning “Vertical DPS” of Travis and his future wife, Tara. Grell’s craftmanship shines depicting Tara with her delicate fingers making ripples in the water beneath a lush oasis, conjuring a classic image of The Warlord in battle. -
