I always enjoy our conversations and catching up.

While I understand that Long Beach and my inventory are not for everyone, there were plenty of comic buyers and my sales were excellent this year. I would love to have the inventory that I had a few years ago; however, the ability to acquire large groups of SA & GA and/or big keys is much more challenging than ever as most dealers will attest to. Fortunately, there are alternatives for the California buyers. Perhaps I will be able to pick up a nice collection before the LB Expo next February.

Thanks to those who came and bought this year. Hope to see you in February.

Glad you had a good show Ed. Sorry I missed you. Looks maybe you had the comic book buying market cornered. I just couldn't justify it this time.

So, are you recommending Gerber's?

This book, on the other hand, meets all the criteria with only 4 copies in the current CGC census and just two of those in grade (also, it was a Gerber "no show")...

So, there are 4 "graded" copies, I have an un-graded copy and I know of 3 other un-graded copies. (total of 8) are there more out there I don't know of? Most likely, how many who knows. The fact that Gerber couldn't find a copy doesn't mean a whole lot. I believe his pool of contributors was fairly small at the time. He didn't ask me or any other the other 3 owners I know of. I still believe it to be quite scarce. Anybody else here have one or know of one?

  3. This question will probably never be answered. Using CGC, Gerber or most any published source always only brings up a very limited result. Example, I know of two Action #1's and one Detective #27 in local collections that probably very few, if anybody, knows about.

Value, as you say has a lot to do with it as does interest in a particular book. The more interest or valuable, the more are graded. As  has been discussed here rarity does not always equal big money either. Lots of great, obscure, books out there that people don't know about due to limited interest or lack of big money.

I usually rely on my many years of collecting and the word of other veteran collectors to determine scarcity. Post what you think is a scarce book here on the boards and you will get an answer usually. My problem is, once I get one, I move on usually to the next one. Too many cool books for me to track. I am often surprised when a board member (or members) say a book that I have is scarce. I already have it so it's off my radar.

  4. There are a LOT of great Funny Animal covers. Ha Ha and Giggle come to mind as do a lot of others. They are cheap  even in high grade. I sincerely doubt they will ever be "hot" but I'm OK swimming in the shallow end with them.

I wouldn't say the Timely funny animal books are "hot". But there are quite a few that bring healthy prices. I like the war covers especially with bondage!

Doh, today is the last day. Funny there were like 15-20 Brim dealers at my local flea with their picked over . One more week for me and I’m done til the spring. Sunday morning hockey starts.

I wasn't sure the exact date. I never go to the July one (too hot usually) and the Sept one is pretty slim pickins. I'm spoiled. I go to a big flea market just about every weekend all year long out there. I actually skipped the Rose Bowl today and the local comic book show yesterday to just chill and do other stuff. I'm going to take the Indian out for a roll in an hour or so. Cruise down Coast Highway with a couple of buddies.

I would say that the Diary Secrets nn (which Bob showed) and All Picture All True Love Story 1 (the only Baker romance book that I'm missing -- this is the scan from GCD) may be the toughest. All Picture All True Love Story 2 was at one time not listed in Overstreet, so it's also tough, but I think a few copies have surfaced. (Note that there is some debate as to whether the APATLS 2 cover is actually by Baker.  I'm inclined to think that it is.)

Teen-Age Diary Secrets 9 is also very tough -- as you can tell from my only being able to locate this wreck of a copy!

I might be tempted to throw this in there too. Although not a Baker cover, It is full of interior Baker work and super tough to find.
