I never tire of comics. Its one of the few things in life, along with music, that makes me feel truly content. Pottering away with them, filing, collecting, researching. All the usual things we love - the smell, look, touch, a longing for the simple days of our youth. I can't afford the books I would like to buy anymore, and, like many I suspect, I would like to skip back 20 or 30 years and be alive again then so I could really live out my love for the medium. Not because the stuff would be cheaper, but because it would be available! Some days I long to go out and visit the comic shop I have in my mind and root around in it. But it doesn't exist anymore.
The golden age of comics has gone for me. I still enjoy staying in the hobby by collecting things that most don't care about. If you'd have told me 20 years ago I'd be searching for pence copies of Gold Key Tom and Jerry's I'd have laughed at you. But it keeps me in the comic world and keeps me content. But I do sometimes get tired of it all, and a break tends to reinvigorate my interest. To give you an example, it's a beautiful sunny day here today and I've just realised I've been at the computer most of the day researching. I enjoyed it of course, but a part of me is saying "go out.....live..."
Know what I mean?
I know what you mean. I "handle" my comics all the time. I still buy like a drunken sailor though. Mostly weird, lower grade GA. I would love to step up but just can't find that cool obscure GA I want at any price it seems. I never tire of comics or music...
I love being outside. Working in the yard, walking the dogs, walking the flea markets, riding my motorcycle or sitting on the patio with a cold one and my guitar. Yeah, get outside and LIVE!

OK, I'm sold. I've gotta pick up a few Tontos now. At least they will be cheap.

thanks brother!!! I take your rarity gauge as high if not higher than any other source too so that means a lot to me thanks dude!!
No expert Gino. But I actively seek that title as does Terry O'Neil and he concurs. Nice grab.

Anybody here get that copy of Strange Mysteries #11 on the bay? $450 seems pretty stiff on that one. I took a stab at an upgrade but got blew out of the water. Good cover for sure but...

Yes, surprisingly hard especially nice grade. Other than one or two, these are in the fair to vg range. Cheaply printed in Canada. Nice to at least finish them off...

The kindness of the boardies always just blows me away. The last issue of this title I needed turned up for sale here. Of course, I missed it. A certian boardie realized I needed this one last one and he graciously let me have it. Thanks Ben, I owe you one!
FINALLY, I've completed my ratty run of Strange Mysteries! Not too many I still need for my PCH collection so even a beater to complete a run is a big occasion for me. Was fun to read these again in the process.

Pretty simple in the case of MAD #1-23. They had the original art. Bill Gaines kept it all. Before it was broken up and sold, it was scanned for the Russ Cochran's reprints.
On other GA books where the art no longer exists, original comics were disassembled, scanned and "cleaned up". Not the best way to do it but they work with what they have available.

Thanks RM! Not apologizing at all, just mentioning the fact that since these were River City copies some here might expect better condition books. I love 'em beat and complete too!
I have a Northford with a very neat split and detached cover. You would never know it in a mylar. Got it for a song and was happy to get it.

I know Mr. Bedrock sold a very high grade copy, maybe a ped a year or so ago. I don't think it was quite this high though.

Love it Pop. Great Everett cover that I wish I had. That is one of the few titles I am missing a lot of. I would be over joyed to find one in that shape.

Cool books Jayman. I found out about that Uncanny Tales a long time ago and snatched up one. Too bad Maneely died so young. Kinda wonder what he would have done a few years later in the Marvel Universe.
By the way, I wish you guys would stop apologizing for the condition of your books. These are nice shape. Even if they aren't, it's just great to see them at all. There are those of us who appreciate them the way they are instead of a stupid number in the upper left corner...

Nice score! It’s been many years since I found any GA at a garage sale!

This came in the mail all the way from New Zeland. I was the only EBay bidder. My first GA book from down under. A little beat but I’m glad to have it. It is #9 which translates to #58 in the US.
Would like to find some more but I suspect these are almost as scarce there as they are here.

No offense Jimmers, but no wonder you are depressed. Dang, that music wants to make me slit my wrists. Ever thought of switching it up a bit? I prefer music that makes me feel good, that I don't have to think so much about. Let it go bro!
