  1. Quick kudos go out to: Warlock - For some sweet Hexes... Pirate - For a nice Warlock #8 w/MJ insert ImageMask - For some nice Marvels w/MJ insert (thumbs u and Tupennyconan for a comic whose timing couldn't have been better... Thanks, Jim
  2. That's why I made him ensure me the comics would be "on hold" until I browsed through them... Jim
  3. Been shopping in my LCS for the last two years. His back issue inventory out on the store floor is mostly late-80s-Moderns. Essentially not very much interested me except for he had alot of comics with MJ inserts...and I bought him out of those within the first couple months of going there. Find out today that the owner is sitting on about 5-7 long/shortboxes of SA/BA comics in the back...underneath desks and not looked at in a long while. The owner said he didn't do much back issue business, still doesn't, and took them off the floor about three years ago due to fears of theft (he has a booming gaming business and kids are all over the store on weeknights and all-day weekends). I wouldn't have known about them at all except he took out a GS X-Men #1 and put it for sale behind the counter. I made a wisecrack that he should get more comics like that and he told me about the stash... Some of these comics are very nice...I only had the time to quickly go through one shortbox but here's a sampling of what I walked away with. He's putting the rest on hold until I can get more time to go through it all...probably this weekend or definitely next. I need to go through my FF collection because he has some super sweet FFs I may go ahead and see if I need to upgrade. I should also say his price was especially generous... Jim
  4. I can agree with this...but the comics that brought up the discussion were by no means rare... Jim
  5. Sure...if you want to compare it to other tight raw grader's pricing. To compare it with CGC slabbed copies? No... Jim
  6. Never said that. Those are your words... Hey, you can price at whatever levels you want. But to list the price of slabbed copies to justify your raw price isn't necessary nor appropriate. You could take the perspective that by doing so you're not confident on what you're pricing the comic at in the first place and feel the need for some additional reinforcement, regardless of it's relevency, to justify it... Jim
  7. I don't know...I can think of a couple sellers here with impeccable grading rep who have never used the tactic...nor do I think they will... Jim
  8. Yeah, I see the difference and it's huge - 2) gives me much more information on which to base my decision to pull the trigger or not and makes me an informed buyer. Thanks for helping me make the point we're all trying to get across here with a perfectly succinct example! (thumbs u That's just crazy Mike. The difference is someone quoting sell prices for something he/she is not selling. It's invalid hype to justify a high selling price pure and simple... Jim
  9. No...it only reflects the price you were willing to pay was near what a slabbed copy has gone for. Didn't validate GPA whatsoever... Jim
  10. Quoting GPA prices in relation to raw comics is an apples to oranges comparison. GPA doesn't claim to be reflective of the raw market nor do they try to be. It's essentially a slabbed price guide. If you want to benefit from GPA prices then slab the comic...not try to reflect slabbed prices in any raw you're selling... Jim
  11. Why? It's the seller's call what he names his selling thread. If it's something that hurts his sales then that's his problem. No one is forcing you to click on threads... Jim
  12. Well...I've had sellers take up to a week to respond with totals... Jim Was the the selling thread still open for that week? Some yes...some who knows? Very few sellers actually close their threads... Jim
  13. Well...I've had sellers take up to a week to respond with totals... Jim
  14. You have to look at it from the other side as well. Someone called the buyer out after 1 week over a $20 comic. That's very uncool... Jim
  15. Then the list would long and varied...and include some of our more prominent Forum members. Some people have lives outside this Board and buyers and sellers shouldn't expect instant gratification in any deal. Just because someone doesn't respond in a week doesn't mean they are try to avoid anything...they just have more pressing things to do. What is the hurry anyway? You still have the comic and can repost it later should the buyer back out. Thirty days is a good barometer on whether a good deal is going bad. Jim
  16. Fretting so much over a $20 book is equally ridiculous. If he doesn`t pay, put him on the list by all means, but don`t get so hung up over it. It`s $20. That won`t even buy you 3 beers in a bar in Manhattan anymore. You've been away for a while . . . $20? Try $40 I am indeed out of touch. Anyways, just even more reason why getting so worked up over non-payment of $20 after only 7 days seems so, well, petty. First of all, it's the principle of the matter. I don't like having my time or energy wasted. Especially when I could have sold it to another board member. Second of all, $20 may mean more to some people than others. Sorry, if I'm not a "high-roller" like you. I make a modest living and don't have wads of cash to blow like some of the other people on these boards. You don't know me and you sure as hell don't know my financial situation. So, instead of calling me petty, maybe you should consider keeping your elitist attitude to yourself. I believe that the biggest irritant is the time and energy wasted....., that and the elitist trolls who flock to beat you down. Thirty days is thirty days. That's the established norm here before calling someone out. To do so after a week DOES seem petty. If the week wait means that much then I suggest creating your own thread and hammer away. To call someone out after a week in the Probation thread is bad form... Jim
  17. Don't you think it's a little soon to be calling someone out in this thread? 30 days is the norm. Jim
  18. It'll be apparent but what could be done about it? The seller is technically abiding by the guidelines... Jim
  19. So my Hulk #1 (CGC Graded 6.5) should have been in the same thread as my Avengers: The Crossing (CGC Graded 9.6)? Sure...name it Hulk #1 CGC 6.5 and Other Assorted Junk Slabs . Jim
  20. Two running threads at one time. Raw and slabbed. That's the only difference that needs to be made. You could think of dozens of combinations to rationalize different threads otherwise if you put in the effort... Jim
