Brie Larson was and is great casting for Carol Danvers.
When RDJ was cast as Tony Stark, there was a kind of kismet to it. Here was a guy who not only kinda resembled Stark, but also had his own battle with personal demons that the comic book character dealt with. Brie Larson could similarly relate to her comic book counterpart. Carol Danvers was created by Roy Thomas in 1969 as a kind of pre-feminist supporting character, a woman in a man's world. As Ms. Marvel, she became not only Marvel's answer to TV's Wonder Woman, but also to the feminist movement of the late 70's. Ms. Larson herself is an outspoken feminist and an early leader of the #MeToo movement. In an Avengers comics storyline, Danvers was infamously kidnapped, raped, and impregnated by a distant interdimensional variant of Kang. Larson won a Best Actress Oscar for playing a woman who is kidnapped, raped, and impregnated by her abductor.
Brie Larson brought charm, funny, spunk, and a kind of improvisational naturalism to the role of Carol Danvers. I'm not sure another actor like the glum yet fan-favorite Emily Blunt would have brought that same spirit and charm. While Ms. Blunt nails intensity and grit in Edge of Tomorrow, she was bland boring and stiff in Mary Poppins 2. You can say Larson was bland and boring in CM all day, but she wasn't. The filmmakers for sure had a low-key subtle approach to the way they told their story (as opposed to over the top storytelling), and Larson played her role to fit that approach perfectly.
Okay, just NO. I know the character is fictional, but you can't compare rape to an actor's portrayal of it. They're nothing alike. One is pretending, and it's frankly a disgusting comparison.
Moving on, I'm not too excited about this film. I really enjoyed the first one, but the second didn't do much for me. I don't think I could stand a third with the same formula. I'd say that hopefully they'll change things up, but that's not really one of the strengths of the MCU, is it. Ah well, it is what it is.
It's still early, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Woah woah woah, let's just back off from that ledge, now.

Excellent news. I've loved him since I first saw him in Boardwalk Empire (great show that, for the majority of its run), so I was thrilled when he was cast as DD, and he did not disappoint. He deserves bigger and better things, and I hope he gets that chance in the MCU proper.

Anyone know what’s the worth of this? I have to have it certified. But it appears to be mint
It's not worth much, and not to be rude, but are we talking about 'an experienced eye' mint, or 'but I saw TWO episodes of Pawn Stars' mint? There's a biiiig difference.

Well put, Mike. Hopefully some people actually learn from this experience.

Study of the superhero’s Jewish influences beats off stiff competition to come first in this year’s Diagram prize.
Nice.
I did enjoy the writer's firm grasp of the subject matter.

The book, of course, explores the Jewish history of Superman and of his creators. Here's the link to the article: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/dec/03/is-superman-circumcised-wins-oddest-book-title-of-the-year-award

With that cover wouldn't a high grade be much easier than a regular book? I mean, assuming you bothered to grade it in the first place, considering it's a royal piece of carp.

More accurate description. Just because you can't hack it doesn't mean it isn't true. Show me a more self absorbed generation. Please. Hint: You will have to wait until YOUR kids are teenagers.
Your opinion is not empirical fact. Just because it's shared by other older members here STILL doesn't make it fact. It's frankly a little bit disgusting the way some of you are coming down on younger members and people in general, generalising them as all the tired old tropes of greedy and self-centred, just for utilising the technology of the day, same as you did in yours with what was available. Newsflash: if you were their age today you'd be doing the SAME things.
You really ARE being a grumpy old man out of touch with it all, and I hope you're not, but you're giving yourself a bad image here and now. Treat others fairly if you want the same treatment.
I'm also dismayed at the current state of things, particularly Marvel, but it is what it is. Maybe I'm no longer the audience, and that's okay. I've still got decades of material to read whenever I want, and much more still to collect before I run out of 'my' comics. Maybe by the time I do comics will appeal to me again. Who knows?

Sounds cool, looking forward to seeing the results! Unfortunately I am TERRIBLE at model kits, just never had the skill for it at all. I very much admire those who do, and love seeing them. I recently picked up a Transformers Furai Rodimus kit, to go into my Lost Light/More than Meets the Eye collection. I'm going to try my hand at it over Christmas break. We'll see how it goes!
Good luck with it, I've never tried a Furai kit, though they're mighty tempting, they've got some great designs. Gundam kits come in such a variety of skill levels that they're easy to get into. I'm really clumsy and the last person who should handle sharp instruments, but I do alright with Gundam kits. I don't paint them, I can't do that yet to the quality level I want, but even with the bare plastic they look great. Everything snaps on, usually with minimum fuss, and the instructions are generally quite good.
I'd say don't be afraid, start with something High Grade to begin with, and see how you go. Just remember it's supposed to be fun!
If I can do it, really anyone can.

She wasn't a very good Storm in the first place. I can't tell you the name of the actress who played the younger Storm, and I couldn't tell you a single line she says, but IMO she's a much better Storm already than Berry. She's got more screen presence and structure to her, composure. That's Storm.

I can't stand Seth Rogen's laugh. The second Ben Grimm laughs, I'm out of there.
But I think it's still just rumour.

I don't know if this counts here, hopefully it's alright, as the end result is the same, I just have to make it myself. Buying that Gundam figure the other week put me in a Gundam mood, and it's been years since I've done a kit of any kind. That'd be good therapy for my still-recovering wrist, too, so it was easy to justify the purchase.
I've ordered a RG 1/144 Burnern (not familiar with this one, just thought it looked chunky and cool) and the RG 00 QanT, which is from my favourite Gundam series, 00. Should have them Tuesday, and I can't wait to get started. Anyone else into Gundam and can recommend some good recent RG kits? Last ones I got were the 00 Raiser (my favourite Gundam fullstop), and I was eyeing off the Aile Strike too, but figured 2 was enough to start with again.
