  1. Gator, in your opinion which is the toughest/relative demand Marvel Mystery among these 3 classics: 40, 44 and 46?
  2. Right? I miss the days when only prehero DC went for multiples of guide....
  3. Congrats on TMIH16-the front cover is worth that price by itself! My favorite Ditko PCH cover.
  4. I just picked up these two; number 4 only has one copy in the census and it's a 5.5. Number 5 was in an anti-comics article in Readers Digest. Can anyone tell me why a VF copy of #4 went for over 13X guide last year? Is there something I don't know about this one and should?
  5. They have teased that Sgt Rock is going to make an appearance on Legends of Tomorrow. My hope is that they do so well with it that generates buzz and then renews interest in a movie adaptation taken from some of the early OAAW stories. It's a long shot tho....
  6. Highly doubtful. The last time it was in development they were talking about "reimagining" it as WWII in space. Im glad that idea died, lol. At one point early on Tarantino supposedly did a -script treatment. THAT could have been interesting, but since he went on to do Inglorious Basterds I don't see him doing another war movie.
  7. Cool back story about this: that guy is Shane Black, who would go on to write Lethal Weapon for Joel Silver. At the time Predator was being filmed Joel Silver was working with Arnold Swarzenegger to bring Sgt Rock to the big screen, and passed out a bunch of Sgt Rock comics to the cast and crew. Shane Black would go on to get his own comic book movie with Iron Man 3.
  8. DC "Double Bullet" comics are my nostalgic sweet spot. My first exposure to them were at campouts in my friend Shane's backyard. The ones that I read were already "old" and belonged to his brother. Here's my 3. Joe Kubert covers WERE my childhood. Tarzan, Sgt Rock, horror, heroes-the man was an ace at any subject. Then, there's Nick Cardy. No one did more DC horror covers than Cardy except maybe Luis Dominguez. Ghosts 31 is a cover that I've owned before. In fact, this is my 4th and final time with it.
  9. This is the preliminary art for the cover of All American Men of War #59. It features a theme repeated a few times for DC war covers, most notably for the origin of Sgt. Rock in Our Army at War #128:
  10. This is my Heath cover recreation, one of the first ones he did-can you spot what he changed from the published version?
  11. So, would this be the correct forum to discuss African-American comic book creators as well? Who were some of the earliest ones? I know of Tom Feelings, who would go on to do childrens books and win a Caldecott Medal but who got his start in pre-code horror and western comics. He also was the artist on the Golden Legacy series of black history comics.
  12. That's a nice page from one of Kubert's best framing stories for WWT. There were only 6 new pages in that book (Kubert's 5 plus a gag page). I'm a huge fan of Weird War.
  13. Great detail and the individual expressions on each sailor's face make this an awesome splash!
  14. Thanks-here's a larger pic of it:
  15. I couldn't find a thread with DC war original art, so I decided to start one. Here are three of my twice up splashes. The first two are also the cover feature and both are pre-Sgt Rock Easy Company stories. Left to right it's Our Army at War 33 by Irv Novick, All American Men of War 39 by Ross Andu and Mike Esposito, and G. I. Combat 49 by Jerry Grandenetti.
  16. Congrats! That was a steal and an excellent score.
  17. Another Ditko cover off my list thanks to the recent CL auction:
  18. Nice grouping, especially that Beware in the corner!
  19. Full disclosure: I have certain PCH books that I hoard. None of those are my top choice, though. That honor goes to this pretty lady right here:
  20. Good choice on that Journey Into Unk Worlds 22 Jimbo. That's a beautiful book!
  21. That a tough book in nice shape and a deal at that price. Congrats!
  22. Heritage sold the original art for this cover a couple of years ago, IIRC.
  23. Wishing you the best of luck recovering them. Those are some high profile PCH books so I can't imagine any sale of them being under the radar.
