  1. was the same process I went through. My take away: if it was an 8.0 (without the major crease on front), might drop to 5.0 (3 pt drop, because the back keeps it from being a "FN"). but as a 5.0 only 1 pt drop.
  2. Except for the major crease on front that reduced it to a 5.0 before looking at back cover. Right?
  3. I got one of your early Hulks last time (when your prizes were #3-6). I picked third, it's a great copy, still have it.
  4. You will remain a 'stud' at this for many more years. Everyone's allowed an off year.
  5. This would be a perfect place for a third annual grading competition, where the "right" grade is the mode grade i.e. most picked grade (or maybe median?), and scores couldn't be determined until all WAGs/grades were in for each round. But it could lead to problems saying that was the "right" grade if the 2nd most popular grade is 2 grades away or something.
  6. You got some grunts to do the reconciliations, right? ; ) Or are you the grunt. : (
  7. Super books as usual Mike! But I'm amazed you still have any newtons. ; )
  8. I rounded up, AND gave it a bump. This time I did, instead of going with my gut of what I would've graded it. Heh. Should've could've would've.
  9. Good point. The sad thing, those who already bought and use Sales Thread as reference point for their purchases. Rube already sold handful of books, but now there's no record, as if they never happened - aside from info in the PMs. Even worse than when sellers delete prices of sold books if the post with "take" didn't include the price as far as erasing useful history.
  10. Probably the Spidey 300 is "copper." Funny thing, ok to list bronze or silver in the Copper/Modern section without fear of thread-assassination.
  11. IMO, probably none of the comics you show here are worth sending in for grading. Except some of those early Daredevils might be in nice shape, would need to see scans or much larger pics (of both front/back) and without the bags. If top grades, they're probably "worth" slabbing. RE: your list of books, if you have books that you think look brand-new and practically perfect (comics you think might be NM copies), sending in for grading could be worthwhile. Particularly if you have popular titles, like the ASM 172 or X-Men 107, high-grade slabbed copies will be in demand. Also, hot (very popular) books in mid grades (sometimes low grades too) can also work out economically (price you sell it for more than exceeds costs to have it graded, shipped both ways, etc.).
  12. You are so effing right. It's fair in theory because we're supposed to be paying Sales/Use tax anyway (in the 46 or whatever states). But it's going to end up unfair because states are always on lookout for new tax revenue stream. So when, e.g. NY, NJ, and Cali impose a state sales tax on all transaction with any nexus in their states (contact by either buyer or seller in a transaction) it might end up trying to impose a NY surtax when me, in Texas, buy from a NYS seller. Conceivably. Haven't read the court's Opinion. But almost certainly if they pass that kind of tax it will be challenged and back before the SCOTUS. And just as almost certainly, many states will try, imo.
  13. Cool argument. Love that out-of-box thinking. But NY state Dept of Tax. says no, probably along with other states that exempt periodicals from sales tax. "To qualify as a periodical, a publication must: be published in printed or written form at stated intervals at least four times a year; have continuity as to the title and general nature of the content from issue to issue; contain a variety of articles by different authors devoted to literature, the sciences or the arts, news, a special industry, profession, sport, or other field of endeavor; be available for circulation to the public; and not constitute a book, either singly or when successive issues are put together" And "Publications that don't qualify as newspapers or periodicals include: ... publications that were originally periodicals, but that are sold at a price that does not reflect the normal selling price (i.e., sold for collection or investment purposes)." 14. Guess I must change my terms: No more "free shipping" terms when this rule takes effect (if it does end up hitting small sellers). 1 Unless the Fed Gov passes law (extremely unlikely with current Congress and a President hated by a party), it will be done on state-by-state basis now the SCOTUS has said what it said. 2 Like me you'll be subject to Texas sales tax no matter where the ebay seller is. 3 They'll figure out the tax rate,
  15. No decrease because of the reader's roll? Wish I'd missed the detached centerfold like you studs that nailed the 6.0 Would've had me closer anyway.
  16. Wish this round was based on answer to Shin's questions, would've nailed 3 of 4 (just missed the 14%, and totally nailed the "toro" is coming and 39 places advancement). Really krapped out on the 6.0. My first year in 2016 never got a single negative, this year already got 3 ! God I suck.
  17. Book was great! Was totally caught by surprise that Doc and Scylla were same person. But agreed Brothers was krap.
  18. +1 Also, growth in the population of international buyers. Most of the commentary with an unfavorable outlook for the future (the 'finite shelf-life' argument) extrapolates based on assumptions that certain trends (e.g. move from physical to digital) will more than offset certain observed past trends (e.g. tiny but consistent % of population that collects this stuff). Of course it could happen. And certainly seems likelier re: low/mid-grade common stuff. But I'm not convinced, generally when it comes to conventional wisdom, and particularly when based on logic-grounded-but-data-unsupported extrapolations.
  19. Heh, almost fell into the same trap myself Mike. Won a Wolvie Ltd series 2-4 lot for half the COUPON amount, and shopped, almost buying, to spend another 40 to save 15. Which would've been great savings % if I found something I needed/wanted at $45, but then luckily moved onto other stuff on my 'to do' plate (like check pornsites or something, I forget).
  20. I think I got double-bulls this time, but I haven't sent them in either. : P
  21. That happened to me yesterday, except the ebay promo 'deal' I missed by minutes was for extra ebucks or whatever it's called. This one is well timed for another I had my eye on, thanks Liz!
