  1. Here's a pic of Dave's letter, it's about Black Knight reprint in Fantasy Masterpieces 11
  2. I really love Ditko's work on Doc Strange - but you're right about ST 110 having the worst 'first appearance key' cover of all Marvel superheroes, no Dr. Strange and unexceptional cover to boot. Marvel really didn't think much of the Doctor, he never even got his own cover of Strange Tales (without sharing with Torch/Thing or Nick Fury) until Ditko's very last work on Dr. Strange - ST 146 - which is probably why they chose #146 as cover to the Omnibus volume. Glad you decided your ST 110 a keeper, and jealous of your X-Men 101 - I finally got a copy last year to complete my 94-150 run, but it's missing a small chunk on front cover, so though I've given up the perpetual chore of "upgrading" I definitely need a nicer copy than I have. Unfortunately it's become such a popular issue I see some collectors including 101 on their list of Bronze Age Keys.
  3. Never got to litigate or be part of the criminal bar (not what it sounds like), but based on the law school class in Evidence (and what I learned from My Cousin Vinny) it's just as you say - rules of evidence would preclude the "surprise witness" dramatic event, except probably they have some kind of "exigent circumstances" exceptions in a lot of aspects of crim. pro., so a plausible scene crafted with a savvy expert could probably be produced. It’d be a whole lot cooler if ya didn’t. I saw for first time a 'safe deposit box' heist movie with Goldie Hawn and Warren Beatty called $ (Dollars), and the good news was, although there was an inside man, they only hit boxes with contents owned by criminals -so victims less likely to report theft. And your comics are obviously legit (or presumably, anyway, since you're revealing them here).
  4. Just, wow. If not for the timing this thread would be (as usual) every kind of awesome. Congrats Rick, these are some super tasty 'extras.'
  5. FF 52 was sorta the 'event' that brought me back to collecting this final time (not going anywhere now, but in 09 had gotten very busy with life). After not looking at my comic collection since 2009, I'm not sure what possessed me to skim ebay in March 2016 - I think it was the imminent release of Cap. America Civil War - to unload the set of complete 22 or so vols. of Civil War TPBs I'd bought for reading, and weren't 'keepers'. So after skimming "ebay completed auctions" I was amazed by the popular demand of FF 52 (because Panther was making his MCU debut, apparently) and within a week I'd listed my extra' copy of FF 52 on ebay (around a VGF -tightly graded - that ultimately I sold on ebay late March '16 for around 400 gross including shipping). As far as I know the Panther/FF 52 peaked two years ago, and past 2 years has been kinda flat to up slightly, though there is probably some upside the next couple of weeks, I can't see that much upside from there. Imo, FF 45 and 46 had cooled off a while back and is old news, though I don't think they're dead just because the tv show was poorly received, they just aren't "hot" or even "warm." FF 48 for various reason is a mid grail, and again imho will remain a warm-hot key indefinitely. Maybe a spike in future if ever get a better-than-mediocre treatment of Surfer or Big G.
  6. Unless, eg, maybe he actually has room for 10 slabs, and is modest to the point he doesn't want to mention the tenth book that prompted box is an Action #1
  7. Probably just as likely he's ignorant & not a scammer. We (even moderately-informed collectors) take so much for granted - but imagine someone that knows nothing finding a stack of "old" comics. It at least looks like a Spidey 7.
  8. I don't actually need it - just love this book and searched for a solid copy a long time before breaking down late last year and buying a 9.2 slab of it here on bds. Don't mind passing it along to someone in need, if that's you, and RFO is ok with it. : )
  9. Awesome pics/scans. Suggestion - put all the pics after the first one in 'spolier' tags to reduce what is already long load times.
  10. I have an 'extra' ASM 129 that I haven't sold, and a Hulk 181. I know, they're bronze, not silver, and possibly they may never again be as high as they are today. From time to time I consider the Q, why have 2? But to be more literal to your OP, assuming there is a basic 'collector' gene in the population that likes accumulating stuff, what are they going to change to if they don't want silver age comics - hummel figurines? Tin boxes or maybe trains? And they keep making more people. And there tend to be ever-more people with a little extra discretionary money for things like 'collectibles.' And a lot more women -or buyers with chick's names- have been buying comics when i do my sales (proportionately more than in past). And I get more request from international buyers for me to let them bid/but on my ebay listings. All of those are forces in opposition to the forces that say baby boomers will all eventually sell and the market will have a glut in excess of demand. So I don't agree with the 'common consensus' that silver age comics are cruizin for a bruizin.
  11. So, a game of musical chairs, and the questions posed- will the music stop, and what happens if/when it does (who'll be missing a chair)? My own pov - some variations on the tune will probably still be playing, and even if it all comes crashing down I'll be comfortable with the books I have or be dead. Some disclosure: I've been slowly selling off my boxes of "dupes" in drips and drabs since 'coming back' in 2016 -mostly on ebay but a little here too, and I spent more in 2017 than I sold (net buyer), and atm I'd predict basically the same pattern for the next few years in my own collecting/speculating/investing.
  12. Interesting, I've always offered buyers to save the fee for pay-by-check - going on 20 yrs now, but have no problem removing that sweetener for buyer's benefit if it bothers people. Screw 'em, no skin of off my nose, and save the bank run to deposit the occasional check from savvy buyers.
  13. what thread full o' troll this turned out to be.
  14. It's pretty much a no-brainer to buy any book in Raze's thread if in the market for that book(s). Great thread Dan, and guess I was the one guy here that liked your self-effacing joke thread title early on in its life. My last sales thread included "no riff raff" in the title the first day, but I wised up that not everyone appreciates that kind of joke and eventually changed the title to list some of the key books, like you did.
  15. Excellent point. This last one must have been really bad for the needle to shift that much. Been a Star Wars fan since '77, though haven't seen new one yet, will chime in when I do in a year or so. And if breathing I'll probably watch 9 as you predict a year or so after that hits theatres.
