  1. The old adage of, "it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it", comes to mind. Personally, I would pay more for a more colorful (and white pages) book of the same grade. It really depends on each individual collector/buyer, though.
  2. I've read that shipping costs are ridiculous unless you submit at least a handful of books. I haven't submitted myself, but I plan to start next year. I just prefer the ol' guarantee of an already-encapsulated book.
  3. Did someone say that Season 1 is on Netflix? Based on the feedback here, I'll have to check it out.
  4. Man of Steel tells you why Superman is so powerful and great at everything - but he doesn't overcome everything with ease. He has to kill Zod and the last of his kind. He keeps his identity a secret. He does have weaknesses - Lois and his mother - and kryptonite. He's not a Gary Sue. I also said that Carol Danvers isn't a Mary Sue because of her McGuffinery. Which is why the McGuffins have to go with Endgame. They can't keep these shenanigans around the MCU and expect people to find even more "Supermen" characters compelling. The ones that already exist - Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Captain Marvel - already aren't compelling.
  5. What I'm saying is that Star Wars didn't give us a reason to expect that Rey can be as powerful as she is. Historically, you needed to have genetic force sensitivity or extensive training to be able to harness the force. She has neither. It's a classic Mary Sue.
  6. IMO we do, otherwise it creates a "leveling" problem, in that they can pretty much do whatever they want with any unexplained character. It leads to a lack of stakes, no gravity, and nothing to make stories with superheroes compelling. If you don't agree with that then we have to agree to disagree.
  7. I bet he's had these up his sleeve since the beginning of the acquisition. And I bet he can't wait to announce them after Endgame. Question is - Will they hold off on X-Men until after Dark Phoenix? I guarantee that FF will be ASAP.
  8. How the hell could you eat BK every day for 9 months? I'll go there once a month and my fix is in. To each their own... What a story...
  9. Is it the one that YouTube guy claimed CGC's competitors would give a 5.0 or something like that? I'm confused by your question. Are you asking if a 2.0 is worth less than a 4.0? Because - without question - it is.
  10. Vision is definitely a Mary Sue. Except, he isn't used like a Mary Sue. I've mentioned before that both he and Scarlet Witch end that Civil War airport scuffle by themselves. Still a Mary Sue nonetheless. Doctor Strange is still a sorcerer without the Eye, though. Unfair to call him a Mary Sue. Green Lantern has to have, what is it, courage? Hope? And use it to power the ring. Neither Mary Sue nor McGuffin. Most of what you're describing - their powers - are explored by the characters throughout stories by trial, test, and adversity. Captain Marvel didn't have any trials/testing/etc of her powers. She didn't inherently have that power, either. The explosion gave it to her. IMO there needed to be points throughout, that show her understanding the McGuffin power. I've been saying that for daysssss. She's not inherently good at everything inexplicably - it's 'because of the Infinity Stone' - somehow. Which is already stupid. Yes, Vision and Scarlet Witch are the same, but they didn't have a titular movie named after them. And, no, I'm not saying that I agree with their treatments. In the heat of battle, she was able to use all of these relatively new powers immediately. It's Mary Sue-like, but a McGuffin created the entire situation. It's convoluted and was a poor story direction. Had she tested her limits at some point, had the story given us definitions of what she can and can't do, it makes things much more interesting. Right now, she seems like the most OP MCU character, and it does her character and the MCU no favors. Maybe the Russo Bros explore this is Endgame. Maybe they define her limits. We really don't need a Superman in the MCU. He's an ideal - not a character - to be admired. Captain Marvel needs to be more than that to separate from characters like Vision and Scarlet Witch.
  11. Marvel Studios has done a good job of defining how characters are able to do 'what they do'. Worlds of DC even does the same. Their characters tend to go through 'trials', training, and defining moments. Captain Marvel kinda bucks these trends, unfortunately. The supporting cast does a good job of making the movie more watchable. Rey is a Mary Sue, because she's great at everything with no testing or training. Most comic book movies, nowadays at least, give us understanding to how their "powers" work.
  12. I'm not sure if she can be accurately described as a Mary Sue. She's the byproduct of a McGuffin. Not to say it's any better, but as a Mary Sue she wouldn't have an 'excuse' for her prowess. In this case, Marvel can just say, "because of McGuffin". Which is a whole other problem. I also wouldn't say she's particularly proficient at anything. She has training on many things. Her McGuffin powers have no explanation as to how she's able to understand or use them - and it makes the movie mediocre by not conveying any support to how she uses them.
  13. Can you be a Mary Sue if you're the byproduct of a McGuffin..?
  14. I mean, it makes sense, but it also doesn't make sense... Y'know? Maybe you don't. Hell, I don't.
  15. Did you edit photos? I swear the had the exact same images embedded 5 minutes ago... This looks like an 8.0 as well.
  16. All of this, and you didn't even tell us what book it would be!?
  17. 8.5 IMO. This one is definitely different than the other 2 topics.
  18. A comic raffle is like the lottery. If you can afford the gamble, maybe why not? If you're on a budget, you're better off saving up for a sure thing.
  19. I don't understand why movie hype affects comic value. Educated guess says: Broader audience to collect memorabilia..? Almost doesn't make sense to me, but... If a playing card designer makes a V2 deck, sometimes the V1 hikes in price because of "completists".
