  1. Bring it @Warlord. My grades have been sent. Admit defeat!
  2. Does it bother anyone else that they're calling the SS sequel "The Suicide Squad"..? I couldn't care less about Wonder Woman 84 or Birds of Prey. Why 2 WW prequels..?
  3. You're probably right, but I tend to talk to more general audiences that enjoyed the MoS>JL trilogy than comic book fans. Probably just personal experience. The majority of comic fans I discuss with will say things along the lines of, "Man of Steel too much fighting", "BvS not enough fighting", etc. Also some other things like, "that's not Superman" (duh?), "Batman doesn't kill" (what?), referencing source material. The BvS theatrical cut was confusing for mostly everyone. I still don't understand mandating a hero team-up like JL to be less than 2 hours. It's no wonder that Cavill wants to be involved in producing the film. I wonder if he's asking for cues from Snyder, too. Too bad the state of Worlds of DC made Affleck quit Batman. IMO he's the best we've seen on the big screen (animated universe not included).
  4. Regardless, you do know that he's Alexander Luthor and not Lex, right? In the Ultimate Cut, this is mentioned probably 4-5 times, to make sure the audience understood that he is not Lex Luthor. Eisenberg and the film overall receive criticism that isn't even rightfully directed. Zack Snyder built movies worth of characters to develop, including Kal-El origin to Superman (3 movie arc), Alexander to Lex (3 movie arc), Dark Knight Returns to Batman (2-3 movie arc), etc etc etc. And he gets fired for trying to do the "right" things. Develop characters into their comic book legacies, and apparently "fans" didn't have the patience for it. I guess that a different discussion for a different place.
  5. Being the "first female lead character Marvel movie" shouldn't matter. The gender of the character isn't compelling. It's a bias to use it for/against the movie. It's a poor excuse to hype the movie. Regardless of Captain Marvel's gender - it's a good movie. Due to the poor 3rd Act and, despite at times absolutely great, the poor writing it just isn't more than a "good" movie. Good, at this point in the game, isn't good enough. It's Phase 3. We needed a Phase 3 film. We didn't get it. We got a Phase 1-style filler. Without the nostalgia of SHIELD and Nick Fury - this is probably a bad movie. Bad "cosmic" CGI, McGuffin power, and another 'fish out of water' story isn't enough.
  6. Also, Justice League is good. It would've been great had Snyder not been canned. An MCU fanboy won't admit this, though. As someone who refuses to enlist in the DC vs Marvel fanboy fight, I certainly see movies with more "objectivity" than most(?).
  7. I wasn't talking to you because you can't pick up the between-the-lines sarcasm. It was absolutely obviously an exaggeration. Lmfao. Move on. There are other people on this site to interact with.
  8. ... Why are you trying to grade brand ne- Never mind...
  9. That's because it's acceptable to carp on DC. The prodigal son Marvel, however, is perfect in every way and their droves of fanboys and fangirls will defend them at all costs. Seriously - I love DC, Marvel, Star Wars, and movies. Not everything they produce will be perfect. Look at Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and The Last Jedi. They've all made huge mistakes along the way. I'm really interested at how you can objectively look at a movie, though. Other than maybe special effects. Even then, I have a couple friends that say they don't notice how Cavill's upper lip looks like a blowup doll for half of Justice League, though.
  10. Now this is how you take photos for grading speculation! 9.4 IMO.
  11. Seriously..? You are creating the "hate" argument, because nobody is hating on the movie. That's a strawman. I'm just responding to the fact that some numbers support the "good not great" movie analysis. Just because you want to jump on my ____ for having a valid opinion doesn't mean that I'm hammering anything "into the ground". The fact that you're attempting to invalidate outside opinions as "pet theories" and think you're looking at the movie "objectively" means you literally have no idea what you're talking about.
  12. Can you read? Captain Marvel is just a "good" movie. You can join Chuck in the strawman argument group. Recognizing that a movie has flaws is =/= hate.
  13. I don't really care for financial numbers. Anything less than $1 billion would obviously be a "bust", though. No chance its numbers are that low, I think. A failure would be something that doesn't live up to the hype. That hype is: The end of most things Phases 1-3. Undoing the deaths of pre-snap characters like Loki, Heimdall, Gamora, Vision, etc. Marvel Studios has had fans talking about this movie for an entire year. I cannot even tell you the last time I got together with friends and we didn't spend at least an hour talking about the MCU and speculating about the "end". I would be extremely surprised if this doesn't pass $2 billion.
  14. Evidence of a good-not-great movie. Word of mouth spreads fast. All the hardcore fans saw it Week 1. At this point in the game, anything below spectacular will have low staying power. Captain Marvel just doesn't live up to what I would call "Phase 3 Hype". Started off with Civil War (basically Avengers 2.5). GotG Vol. 2 is the only other film in this Phase that I'd give less than 4.5/5.
  15. You're trying way too hard to dance around the facts. It's okay to be wrong. The first step in solving a problem is realizing that there is one. No matter how many times you cry "2 + 3 = 4", the fact is that the correct answer will always be 5. There's an old saying, something like, "blank is as blank does". The reason I brought up the cloak being a relic, is because it's explained in Doctor Strange that relics "choose their wielders". Mjolnir, nor Stormbreaker, have any ability to "choose". Hence the distinction between a magical relic, and an alloy that has the property of magical affinity. To quote Nick Fury, "they're not the same thing".
  16. You have to bend all of the pages aggressively to remember where you left off, right?
