  1. Perhaps CGC can introduce a special "White Glove" service where their employees will treat collectible comics as a collectibles and not slabs of bacon. Give the books a kool new label and charge 50% more.
  2. Perhaps the competition might come out with an exclusive CGC Error/Variant label. It would make a nice backdrop at shows.
  3. They could have called it conserved, restored or Marvin. It was putting them in a different colored label that screwed the pooch.
  4. A Paratroopers Prayer I'm asking You God, to give me what You have left.Give me those things which others never ask of You.I don't ask You for rest, or tranquility. Not that of the spirit, the body, or the mind.I don't ask You for wealth, or success, or even health. All those things are asked of You so much Lord, that you can't have any left to give.Give me instead Lord what You have left.Give me what others don't want.I want uncertainty and doubt.I want torment and battle. And I ask that You give them to me now and forever Lord,so I can be sure to always have them, because I won't always have the strength to ask again. But give me also the courage, the energy, and the spirit to face them.I ask You these things Lord, because I can't ask them of myself
  5. I offer neither pay, nor quarters, nor food; I offer only hunger, thirst, forced marches, battles and death. Let him who loves his country with his heart, and not merely with his lips, follow me.
  6. This story shall the good man teach his son;And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,From this day to the ending of the world,But we in it shall be remember'd;We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with meShall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,This day shall gentle his condition:And gentlemen in England now a-bedShall think themselves accursed they were not here,And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaksThat fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
  7. Duty, Honor, Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be.” – Douglas MacArthur
  8. You might tell that to the folks who spent a fortune buying up Stans low grade file copies. Or Dave Cockrums, Or Don Rosa's. I've a half dozen SA Marvels marked for Office Use only and I'd ask a hefty premium on them if I were to sell.
  9. CGC. They may ruin your books but as long as they keep coming up with kool new emojis, the sheeple will be content.
  10. Customer Service 001. Eliminate the competition and you can eliminate your customer service.
  11. For many collectors, it adds value. Sadly, there are fake ones out there. Generally, file copies tend to be high grade.
  12. I'm thinking 1.8. I don't know much about restoration scales but this book would rate a purple label.
  13. Is it smarter to have the book buried with you rather than burned with you?
  14. Imagine if the Sistine Chapel was given a PLOD and it's value crashed 80%? I think when Steve B gets around to writing his autobiography, that putting restored books in a different color label will be his biggest regret.
  15. Am I the only one who thinks it is insane that you can artificially create a spine for a book and that is conservation, but if you trim off a hanging corner, it is restored. Even on the exact same book.
  16. I attended a Silver Age meetup in Long Island in the mid 1990s. It was kool but it was pretty far from my house. The store that sponsored it ended up shutting down that location and while the new place was closer to me, the three guys who were the glue to the group stopped coming and it pretty much dissolved itself. I went to three meetings over six or seven months. Maybe ten years ago, my Mom was living in the Villages and she wante me to move there. She mentioned they had a comic collecting club but I never went to a meeting.
  17. I remember sending money to a dealer upstate NY for a Conan 1 only to get a bunch of JLAs and a note the Conan was sold out. A week later I get a postcard that they have new inventory including a Conan 1 for $40. I'm pretty sure it would have been "sold out" again if I ordered it again.
  18. This is a very interesting question. I thought about it and don't have an answer to it. I should, but I just don't remember it.
  19. Throw it in a box and forget about it. Take $20 from the money you will save y not regrading it and buy something that will bring you joy.
  20. I don't see anything wrong with cracking your books, as long as it doesnt involve breaking out PLODs and not disclosing it to prospective buyers. If you think they look better in mylars, break them out. Just be aware it is an expensive habit.
