From the Bleeding Cool post-
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/comic-creators-react-to-dc-comics-and-their-nft-plans/
QuoteAugie De Blieck Jr: Is anyone else concerned that DC's language on NFT sounds very close to « You can't sell your original art created for a DC comic? I don't know if NFTs are going to take off, but the artist should still own the rights to their own artwork, as they do with physical art now.
I think DC should step in regarding open editions and limited editions to protect their IP and properly license it out. I think they should get the heel out of the way on 1-of-1's. That's the original art that the artist should be allowed to sell.

if that computer on the grid was on and doing something else regardless, then it wasn't using any MORE energy
Computers use more energy under CPU load.
In my opinion, I completely understand and share artists' environmental concerns regarding Ethereum. But as has been pointed out in the threads @vodoulinked, NFT and cryptoart is a fart in the wind compared to the institutional money happening on there. It's kind of like saying household recycling is important. It definitely is, but then you see the scale of industrial pollution and you just...

I turned around and I was being hit by Non-Fungible Tokens. The first instance was a livestream by Jim Lee earlier this month. Then a plethora of announcements this week from Christies, followed closely by Essential Sequential and Felix Comic Art.
Same. I did some catch-up reading and even checked in to see if some of my all-time fav (non-comic) digital-only artists had jumped into it. (They had.) The prices were doable, but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.
Would I buy if a high end monoprint was being sold along with the token? (giclee, physical mural even?) I don't think it would sway me... unless it was big enough that making another would be cost-prohibitive.
How about buying a traditional piece of OA and getting the NFT along with it -- which is what I saw with the Essential Sequential offerings? It's nice, but not necessary. And that opens up some convos about selling the art and NFT separately (see pencils and blue-line inks on separate boards.) I've seen a few traditional painters minting NFTs not only for the COA aspect, but also for the public sales and brand-building it gives them.
I doubt you are going to get anything but a collective shrug out of most OA collectors, but like any emerging market there will be a deluge of speculation.
I have an open mind about this, but I'm not sure I am there yet. For me, physical art is all about the lack of Ctrl-Z. So as much as I love digital art as a medium, I am not sure I want to be a digital art collector.
For those of you on the fence, I've found it helps to not look at the ridiculous "fine art" stuff being pushed around right now, but rather ask yourself about some comic OA stalwarts... Would you buy a digital McKean Sandman cover? Staples Saga? Greg Horn? recent Bolland? Or what about the colorists... Isanove Wolverine or Conan? Oback? Middleton? etc. Help me out... What are the big categories of missing comic art that are digital only?

I don't have any specific links, but poke around on YouTube. I bet there are some videos of folks using document repair tape or water-soluble paste to create removable hinges.

I have a few DPS pages and a couple of pages with overlays, all attached with masking tape. All of these pages are relatively new ('90s and newer) - I have been considering whether or not this tape should be replaced with something I know is archival. Has anyone here removed and replaced tape on a DPS, and what did you use?
Here are my notes on this from a few years ago. Again, whatever you do, DON'T use a solvent. If the piece is that bad, you need to send it to Gordon Christman.
To tape the pieces back together, you can just use 1-2 2" small pieces of archival hinging tape. It isn't necessary to tape the whole length.

Hello All,
I have been researching, but I need help.
Thank you!
1.) This could have never been used.
2.) This could have run in Action 602-635. Green Lantern removed from the book after 635. 1988/1989
3.) This could have run in other DC books 1988/89.
Green Lantern volume 1 was canceled with issue 224 in May 1988.
This references Action 601, May 1988.
Signed Tod Smith 1988
Tod Smith worked on Green Lantern in Action Comics 606-614 and the Green Lantern special 1. All in 1988.
DC art board. No rear stamp.
Any ideas? Anyone have the issues to check? Thanks!
It may have been an alt for one of the promo posters-
Can you reach out to Tod Smith?
That GL run in ACW was pretty crazy, btw. Spoilers-

I have a modest little art collection, and every piece I purchase immediately gets framed and displayed on the wall. However I’m starting to run out of wall space ( I knew this day was eventually going to come!). I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good portfolio case to store original art? Do you also put your art in an additional sleeve before putting it in the portfolio? Thanks for all advise!
Lots of info here-

Marvel:1975
I dig it. If you are tight with any creators of this era, a writer and artist should pitch it to a Marvel editor. A whole month of newsprint comics would make for a kitschy local news day piece at press outlets. Fans would definitely get behind this.

Well, the eggnog gave you the runs, you got into a political argument with your aunt over Zoom and pecan pie, and you drunkenly made out with your own hand on New Year's Eve. Yep, 2020's dumpster fire has finally burned out...
BUT THE COMIC ART SURVIVED!!!
The votes have been tallied... and tallied... and tallied... Wait, who are all of these people in here watching me tally these votes?!
On to the winners...
In the UNPUBLISHED category, @alxjhnsn saves the day with his Super, Sugary, Spicey throwback cover by Dave Aikins!
In the PUBLISHED category, @Twanj has Wolvie flip it over and whip it out with his Steve McNiven half-splash!In our recurring TASTEMAKER category, this year's boardie with the overall most votes goes to... Why heavens, it's a 3-way tie! @alxjhnsn @Lee B.@T Shen come on down here, you rapscallions! You are pound-for-pound the bestest comic art collectors this year. Now go farm out those $600 collecting chops as art consultants and start raking in the serious dough.
And finally, the moment we've all been waiting for...
In this year's special GIANT HEAD-THING category (guest-judged by M.O.D.O.K. himself!), @AnkurJ asked Gabrielle Callan to craft something of equal parts beauty and tentacles chasing me in my dreams. Way to go, Ankur! I'm never eating calamari again.
Thanks to everyone for entering and voting! $600 was a magic number, methinks. Some really strong entries this year, and a great opportunity to review our collective interests.
Keep the smart buys coming throughout the year! And direct people to the boards, to CAF, the various FB groups, videos, podcasts, etc. Maybe try to get at least one other person involved in the hobby in 2021. And then drag them back over here this time next year to post their pickups.
Now everyone run over to CAF and vote in their review too!
This year's Budget Edition brought to you by Hu Chocolate. Mel would have gone full Donner Party on me this year without it. Such good chocolate, and it saved my life!

Sorry for the delay folks! I hit a busy patch with work. So get in any last-minute entries or votes and we'll get this tallied up tonight.

How do the number of posts compare to last year?
We had 88 entries last year and 83 thus far. So just about even Steven.
I'd love to see more sketch covers and commissions as I know there are a lot of those being made this year.
And just going by ebay alone, there are so many nice pieces available for $600 and under-

Heading into the weekend... don't forget to post if you haven't already. And to vote!

Hey folks, just wanted to see if we could get some of these beautiful sketch covers posted over at the Original Art subforum where we have a Best of 2020: Budget Edition review.
All pieces $600 and under are welcome!

This year's discussion thread will be moderated by Mogo. He finally decided to socialize a little.
So my main hope this year is for everyone to post this around on Comics General, Signature Series thread, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Looking over last year's entries, as great as they were, it just wasn't representative of the VOLUME of great budget art that sells throughout the year. Can you all help me out by cross-posting BUDGET EDITION around? Anyone know anybody at CBR.com, etc? Let's get some new posters on here.
Thanks all!

Happy New Year, art-obsessed mole people!
Close out of that Caviar food app and walk yourself down to the hot dog stand on the corner, because it's time for the Best of 2020...
...BUDGET EDITION!
The year-end review where OA's dog brothers have a shot at glory!
Once again, this is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of 2020. So be sure to post your more hoitie-toitie pieces over there before Thursday.
Now in our glorious fourth year, Budget Edition is intended to show the breadth and quality of comic art that can be had for relative bargains.
It's been a booming year for all collectibles as folks have turned to the comfort of their hobbies to get them through trying times. Prices have exploded, but so many opportunities to dive into comic art collecting still remain for the new collector (and the savvy veteran too. )
Enough pontificating. Let's get to the RULES...
RULES FOR ENTRY:
- Post ONE PIECE OF ART per reply. This is your entry.
- There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry.
- Attach the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published).
- Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF or the Discussion Thread. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it there.)
-
You cannot have paid more than $600 for the art. (Because STIMULUS! Plus, I still think $600 is something most comic collectors could pull off in a month or two of patience and savings.)
- This price must include Buyer's Premium and Sales Tax. Shipping, handling, and insurance are not factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system!
- No more than THREE entries per person. You can post any combination of PUBLISHED or UNPUBLISHED as long as you do not post more than THREE pieces total. -- But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY so we can vote properly.
- Illustration, game, movie, original animation, and merchandise art are all eligible.
- Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not.
- You must have acquired the piece during 2020. If you paid for it, but it hasn't arrived yet, it is still eligible.
VOTING:Voting opens as soon as a piece is posted! So post early to get more eyeballs on your piece.
Click the LIKE button in the bottom right corner of the entries you like. You can LIKE as many entries as you want.
Voting and entries will close January 11. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 11 or 12 and post near the end of the thread.
If you want to discuss the contest, please post in the other Discussion thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here.- timguerrero, NicoV, Andahaion and 6 others

Why is a wire transfer safer than a credit card?
Wire transfer is always safer for the seller because the buyer has no recourse, whereas they could initiate a chargeback with their credit card company.
