  1. This year's discussion thread will be moderated by Mogo. He finally decided to socialize a little. So my main hope this year is for everyone to post this around on Comics General, Signature Series thread, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Looking over last year's entries, as great as they were, it just wasn't representative of the VOLUME of great budget art that sells throughout the year. Can you all help me out by cross-posting BUDGET EDITION around? Anyone know anybody at CBR.com, etc? Let's get some new posters on here. Thanks all!
  2. Happy New Year, art-obsessed mole people! Close out of that Caviar food app and walk yourself down to the hot dog stand on the corner, because it's time for the Best of 2020... ...BUDGET EDITION! The year-end review where OA's dog brothers have a shot at glory! Once again, this is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of 2020. So be sure to post your more hoitie-toitie pieces over there before Thursday. Now in our glorious fourth year, Budget Edition is intended to show the breadth and quality of comic art that can be had for relative bargains. It's been a booming year for all collectibles as folks have turned to the comfort of their hobbies to get them through trying times. Prices have exploded, but so many opportunities to dive into comic art collecting still remain for the new collector (and the savvy veteran too. ) Enough pontificating. Let's get to the RULES... RULES FOR ENTRY: Post ONE PIECE OF ART per reply. This is your entry. There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry. Attach the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published). Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF or the Discussion Thread. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it there.) You cannot have paid more than $600 for the art. (Because STIMULUS! Plus, I still think $600 is something most comic collectors could pull off in a month or two of patience and savings.) This price must include Buyer's Premium and Sales Tax. Shipping, handling, and insurance are not factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system! No more than THREE entries per person. You can post any combination of PUBLISHED or UNPUBLISHED as long as you do not post more than THREE pieces total. -- But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY so we can vote properly. Illustration, game, movie, original animation, and merchandise art are all eligible. Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not. You must have acquired the piece during 2020. If you paid for it, but it hasn't arrived yet, it is still eligible. VOTING: Voting opens as soon as a piece is posted! So post early to get more eyeballs on your piece. Click the LIKE button in the bottom right corner of the entries you like. You can LIKE as many entries as you want. Voting and entries will close January 11. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 11 or 12 and post near the end of the thread. If you want to discuss the contest, please post in the other Discussion thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here.
  3. Wire transfer is always safer for the seller because the buyer has no recourse, whereas they could initiate a chargeback with their credit card company.
  4. The more I look at this one, the more I like it. It's quite something getting all of those names in one spot.
  5. The missus is also a big fan of the Dude. These are up on the wall by her desk at the moment... Nyberg inks... And then into the Gary Martin inks Dark Horse era... Borderless panels... Insane character models... Silhouette. I love all of the Easter Eggs in this one... ..
  6. "Jealousy is the mind killer. I will let my jealousy pass through me..." Love it!
  7. Just finished tonight and really loved it. I can't say much without spoiling!
  8. 4 eps in on this, and highly recommended. Gillian Flynn is a boss. Creepy art from Fables' Joao Ruas too!
  9. You gonna put it all out there on a pool table like that without a Speedball page? Amateur hour.
  10. Didn't U2 also have a track in Batman Forever, or was it just credit music as well?
  11. I was just telling another boardie @Koheihow after watching Superman the Movie a bazillion times growing up on VHS that I didn't know there was an actual song of Lois's spoken word testament. And now I can't imagine my life without it! Maureen McGovern is incredible. Co-written by John Williams, no less. And this one by Tia Carrere rips my heart out every time I hear it... Takes me right back to the tragic ending of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Batman gets another spot on the list with the sultry dance scene in Batman Returns courtesy of Siouxsie and Danny Elfman... So many great songs in The Crow... But given O'Barr's love for Joy Division, I'd have to note NIN's cover of Dead Souls. And of course The Cure's Burn- And yes, it's TV, and no, it wasn't a comic book until the 2000s, but the song is insanely catchy- So help me out... What am I missing?!!
  12. Great live panel last night with K Gearon and James S. Going to slowly catch up on the other vids on the channel. Kudos to Bill Cox!
  13. You know, I think you might be right. But the later stuff might not be getting the same love because the later-Marvel/Valiant era was more sequential than illustrative.
  14. First in, first out? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/16/arts/design/brooklyn-museum-sale-christies-coronavirus.html?action=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage
  15. If you're an Iron Man collector, THIS is the cabinet for you!
  16. This is the Mile High Comics / Amazon method too, iirc. You don't care where anything is. You just number all of the portfolios and look up its location. I do the same even for my modest collection. It also has the unintended side-effect of arranging your collection by date acquired.
  17. Those all have their own separate HC collections. This one is the HC of his recent series which is a crossover of his various past books. A "Crisis" in the Terry-verse, if you will.
  18. My search-fu fails me... Does anyone know of any clips of vintage illustrators drawing/painting live?
  19. Recent death of Chadwick Boseman plus "COVID-market".
