  1. OK I looked up the comic on eBay, I read the Wikipedia on this Usagi dude and I still don't get the price. Sellers are saying "maybe" a TV series or movie. $30K?????
  2. Hi all, I've been collecting TWD comics for a few years but am gonna go Newbie for this question. I am watching in awe as TMNT #1 in 9.8 is up to $46K in the CLink auction with 9 days left. I have also seen Hulk 181 9.8 prices reported on their site at $59K. Using a cutoff of $50K+, what bronze, copper and modern books sell at this price level? When younger, I collected during 1978 to 1980 so may have had some of these "killer" books in my hands at some point.
  3. I've bought a lot though eBay and I think just the thought of their Buyer's protection (and perhaps a negative review) has allowed me to work things out fairly with every seller. But lately I have been doing direct buy transactions - mostly though members here - and am relying on the protection of PayPal's Goods & Services protection (which costs a steep 5% to the seller) as my personal protection that I'll get what is sold. What has been ya'll's experience with PayPal for protecting Buyers (and Sellers I guess). These are becoming regular 4-figure purchases (a lot for me) and it would be good to understand it. Thanks!!
  4. Ahhhhh... OK. The other Post was riding him pretty hard for his decision so seemed really bizarre he would do a few books. These titles were the only ones I could find so maybe it was a weak moment for him.
  5. Can someone please explain this to me? I saw in another thread about Liefeld not signing CGC anymore and his rant in Twitter which started all of this in March, 2018. And I see people ragging on him even today. Can someone then explain how he ended up signing this book (and many more of these) on August 28, 2019? 18 months after his "No CGC Ever" rant???
  6. I highly recommend Stephen!! We did a complex trade plus cash deal and it worked out great. He shipped next day after we locked the deal and his communication throughout the process was exceptional. Would gladly do more deals with Stephen! (Edited for typo - my typing sucks :-) )
  7. Wow - that was unexpected. Now to get an order in for the Gold and Silver foil variants!!
  8. Not really. Coins are "conserved", cleaned, "dipped" in metal cleaners to make them look new but still gradable and all sorts of shenanigans. Many who play the grading game look for ways to get an advantage. It is similar to a press or whatever black hat stuff goes on in comics (I'm a newbie in raw books but have to believe it's going on).
  9. All his comments are missing. I can only see them as copies on other people's comments. Did he get booted and his troll comments removed?
  10. Just so all are aware, I made a mistake and thought the PayPal Goods & Services was the same 3% commission as eBay PayPal fees. It is actually 5%. Still worth the protection but consider 5% in your deal calculations.
  11. Are comics like coins, where if it looks superior to the grade on the holder, people will crack them out and resubmit them. As a result the census data was always overstated. Is that the case here too?
  12. Weighing in for my vote of: Robert Kirkman Charlie Adlard Tony Moore Cliff Rathburn Stephano Gaudiano Might as well go for the entire creative team but obviously the Top 3 would be awesome.
  13. Having read through this, there really is room for CGC to create a new colored label and use an expert signature verification service. Why not? Maybe it isn’t perfect but let the buyer choose? Seems fair to me. Keep buying Sig Series if you want the 100% guarantee. Buy the other based on expert opinion. Seems like an opportunity to me though I do understand the earlier arguments about how fakes being an issue. IDK... put it out there and let the buyer decide.
  14. Well plenty of more experienced people will weigh in here but the physical chain of custody with CGC guarantees an authentic signature. I like that when I buy CGC books I know that it was signed in their care or collected from the signer directly. I don't have to worry about fakes.. I don't trust COAs in general. And the premium people pay for CGC Signature Series is pretty substantial versus even a graded book with a green label (unverified signature)
  15. Hi All, The Hero Initiative 100 Project Covers have created many great sketch covers across many big name franchises. Do you think getting the Writer of the book's signature through Signature Series would increase the desirability of these issues much? Because each is unique by Artist, the cover itself is the big draw, with some truly amazing examples being very sought after (and valuable)... and of course subjective. Would you place more value on having the writer's signature on the book? If the "typical" Hero Initiative book sold for $1,000 and the signing/submission expenses to get the Writer's signature were $100... would you place $100 more value on the book? Or should a collector only do this if it is of personal preference and likely won't affect the value? Opinions welcome
  16. Ahhh did not realize it would be such a pain to file a claim. Not sure if CGC books help as you can generally find a market value if it is not a 1-off. I can say I had a Registered Package "stuck" in the HUB near delivery location for 2 weeks and I got pretty nervous. I escalated a tracker through USPS and they got it unstuck in a day and delivered the next. Has anyone had a lost Registered package before? I shipped a lot of rare coins with values up to $20K a whole lot and never had anything lost.
  17. You are missing the best shipping option available which is Registered Mail since chain of custody through the mail system is constantly under lock and key. Super cheap insurance for high value items. I've shipped $10K value before in a large box with 10 CGC books and all in shipping, registered fee and insurance was $60. I think $40 Priority with no insurance so only $20 to cover $10K... seems very reasonable. And much better handling of the package for those who don't want a destroyed box (which I have received a few times and have bought maybe 60-80 CGC books). Editied to add, this is available up to $50K. IDK what to do beyond that level.
  18. Sorry buddy if my post went the wrong way. Good luck selling your book. 😊
  19. I totally agree with this comment!!! Give me an awesome original Hero Initiative book for $1,000.... I'll take that over some obscure 3rd print anyday.
  20. Yeah that is a valuable one but perhaps not the most. Would like the experts to weigh in. There are about 2x the number of books in the census versus this article from 2016. Interesting of the 33 9.8s in existence, there are 5 on eBay right now. However scarcity does not always mean the most valuable. I mean to me... a book where the only difference is "Second Printing" and "Third Printing" below the price is not very exciting.
