  1. Hell yeah - that spine split is the only think that makes a book like that even remotely affordable.
  2. Grader Notes large split center of spine light spine stress lines
  3. Any idea when/what the next releases will be?
  4. Actually two different places...the black one I got first on FB marketplace as a raw...that sparked my interest and came across the second one (raw as well) at an estate sale. That one I really lucked out on.
  5. Heres my membership card - Bought it as a CBCS 4.0 and CPR'd it.
  6. I asked the price, they said $1 a book for this box...I paid $130 without even looking :-)
  7. From what I saw, there was nothing even remotely recognizable in that box
  8. Yard sale find...$50. Mainly 80's ASMs 190-280 or so plus other short runs. No bags or boards - it had been sitting in an attic for decades, but decent shape. I left a similar box of 80s FF there...kinda kicking myself now.
  9. Actually I went back after I bought it, and found the sister of the gentleman who passed away. I asked about his collection and she said they had more that were kept out of the estate sale. I ended up helping them bring it to auction at Heritage. So - yeah, I got a good deal at the beginning, but in the end I think I helped them out and paid it back a bit. Heres some that went to HA:
  10. The Subbys were awesome - the FF's had some water stains on the back.
  11. Part of an estate sale find...$1 a book...that'll never happen again. .
  12. Just picked this up - another Sterenko Stunner
  13. I'm looking at a Golden Age books with a piece thats missing from the back cover...just wondering is there a max grade that a book thats missing a piece this large can get? The owner says its a 2.0, but I'm wondering if 1.5 / 1.0 is more likely with that much gone....or even incomplete? Sorry about the quality of the photo...its all I can get right now.
  14. yup- Thats me. I worked with the owner of the Oregon Coast Collection. We originally did a spot check and graded 10 books - some of which I offered on that thread you mentioned. Once those books were sold, the owner decided to sell the collection to Heritage. He took immaculate care of them, and often grabbed multiple copies off the newsstand (including 5! MS5s - 9.8, 2x9.6, 9.4, 9.2). The buyers of those first 10 books were lucky enough to grab them at a crazy good price...they had OCC labels on the backs, as opposed to the Heritage books that have them on the front. Theres about 4000 total books in the collection, 1200 have been sold to date. Hope thats some useful background.
  15. I usually make a nice copy on newsprint of a signed splash and keep it with the slab...its a pretty decent compromise.
  16. Thought I'd share my copy...I've held out on grading this hoping CGC will come out with a much needed Dr Strange custom label.
  17. They’re a good source for high grade filler books if nothing else.
  18. If I understand you correctly, I don't agree. Selling to a dealer will get you pennies on the dollar. Buying from a dealer will prob get you overpaying. I've done a lot of business with HA over the last year and found them to be fair and professional. I heard they even had a chance to outright buy the Promise Collection form the family for under $1,000,000 and felt it wasn't the right thing to do. I respect that. Tho I can't guarantee theres no shill bidding - I assume there is - I've found that plenty of high grade books fly under the radar there. If its not a 9.8, or a key, theres a pretty good chance you'll get a good deal in their Sun/Mon auctions. Just keep your eyes open and you'll find them.
