  1. hello all... Ryan, the AM6 is for you ...after I saw your 5-11 run, I decided then and there, i would try to duplicate what you, and jon and steve and win (and likely others) already have... thanks rick Why thanks Rick!! I think you got a good value on that #6. The entire 5-11 run is very strong, a beautiful example of prime golden age!! I have pawed through my mini run many times since I got the #5 ... My prediction is that once you get into the A-MAN's, you'll want to delve into the early Timely's as well... those early A-MAN's read like an early MARVEL MYSTERY. Burgos, Everett, Gustavson, as well as Tarpe Mills, and I love the Frank Thomas "Chuck Hardy" feature as well. (i'm sure everyone is sick of hearing me run down the contents of the A-MAN books!!) Of course, if you're not a "cracker", you'll never have the pleasure...
  2. Its a tough call, but I'll go with the DETECTIVE 35... one of my all time fav's. Everyone here seems to have a copy but me...
  3. Ryan, Win, Steve Carey and I have just been put on notice...Rick is buying Centaurs!! Glad to have you on the bus with us Rick! Speak for yourself Bill... Seriously, Rick, congratulations ... that is a wicked copy of a wonderful comic. Off the Metro site if I remember correctly?? Just a great pick up... one of my top three Centaur covers. Blows my copy out of the water! And Steve, its great to see you strutting your Centaurs again, even if its at CentaurMan's expense!!
  4. Thanks Paul, for keeping the art in its original state. I think dropping the newsprint color out of the gutters is a good move... I am very much looking forward to this volume (and will stockpile them for gifts!) "Art Out of Time" IS well worth checking out ... great Hanks story in it.
  5. Hi Paul, This is something I would get in line the day before to buy ...I can't wait to see it!! I am curious, are the pages photographed in all their original beauty, or did you use the color drop out method ala Marvel Masterworks? please say the first option. (the original Hanks pages looked great in that "Art Out of Time" book!) Thanks for your dedication... who else would compile a book from an artist this obscure? May can't come soon enough...
  6. Showcase, HUGE congrats on your book... that is a true beauty. Great shots (I like the one with the "kid gloves")... the interior looks as beautiful as the cover. Amazing. Can't believe its only a VG+!!
  7. Beauty books Buttock!! The creepy ALL AMERICAN is such a great cover, and that DYNAMIC...
  8. Thanks all... Not the best photo, but here's Startling #40...another hooded Japanese cover by Schomburg (and from the summer of 1946!). Great pick ups, Jon!! I esp. love the SUBMARINER #13 ... great snake cover. Are you focusing on hooded menace covers, or is this a coincidence?
  9. Great to see that cover up close, CM!! Nice one. I have always thought that cover was stronger than the #1 issue (and as you mentioned, harder to find). The cover elludes to some sort of battle on the inside... is this the case? I'll agree with BlackHand, that 1940 was a great year for comics... things were still fresh, kid sidekicks were not the norm yet, art was crude and exciting, pulps were still a big influence, just an amazing time in general (great time for film as well). Most of my collecting is focused around 1939 and 1940 ... the scarcity of the books from that time period makes it all the more rewarding when you land a "big fish"!
  10. Congrats on owning two stupendous book, CentaurMan!! We should all be so lucky! My choice: MARVEL #9, hands down. Best cover of the MARVEL run for my money, hard to get, battle issue, two GA artists I love collaborating (Burgos and Everett)...
  11. MARVEL #1 - 10, no questions. I'm a HUGE Everett fan (esp. work form that early period).
  12. Wow, $35 seems like a real bargain!! Nice looking copy!
  13. Thanks for posting those interior shots, Ciorac!! Very inspiring ... the inside covers are blinding white!! SO nice to see!! There is nothing like seeing the original pages, vs. a reprint. I can almost smell them...
  14. Leave some table scraps for the rest of us.
  15. So Ciorac, if I follow the mail pattern correctly from the last two days, tomorrow you should be receiving: DETECTIVE #27 (NM, white pages) WHIZ #1 VF MARVEL #1 (two copies) and possibly ACTION #1 (double cover issue, VF) What is POSSIBLY left for you to get???
  16. Because they are free from their tombs!!! I and Iove them. Good Lord, Ciorac... those are beautiful books!! Please, PLEASE tell me the TEC 35 wasn't the 5.5 restored from Rick... Rick, I thought we had something special!! Now its gone beyond hate ... whats after hate? Resentment? Congratulations on an amazing score, Ciorac!
  17. Ciorac, what a wonderful looking copy of a hot book!! Nothing left to say... except I hate you too.
  18. NICE, CentaurMan!! A new or recent aquisition? Hard to believe its as old as it is...
  19. I posted this TORCH #5 earlier in this thread (I think), but I liked the cover with the original back page house ad (back cover of DARING MYSTERY #8). The ad uses the art from the cover of MARVEL MYSTERY #9, no less!! It looks great as a line drawing. Is there a thread on house ad's? I love house ads!!
  20. While we're on the topic of Tarpe Mills, here's the only GA Tarpe Mills cover that I know of (sorry, I posted this not too long ago , but I can't resist)... if she has done others, someone let me know! I think this is a fantastic cheesecake cover! Exotic theme! Ape abducting girl! Frank Buck clone filming the whole thing! FUNNY PAGES vol. 3/9
  21. Wish this was my doctor's waiting room ...
  22. PH, its nice to finally see those cracked... EXTREMELY supportive wife!! Lucky man!! Those issues are great, as Steve mentioned. I love the Burgos story in the vol.2/#9! Doug was so easy to deal with, and I've never seen better packing. He was totally accomodating!
  23. The more I see of "Phantom Lady", the more I want to branch out into that title ... great, great book. What a "fox".
