  1. An absolutely gorgeous book, CentaurMan. Thanks for posting!!!
  2. NICE Mystery Men , CM!! That is one of my fav covers... I missed winning it in the Comic Heaven auction that just ended, but I'm always on the lookout for that particular issue (anyone? anyone?). Great post.
  3. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this cover. Nothing. ArAich you must be very secure in your collecting. I'm afraid to ask what the pinup looks like.
  4. A beauty book to own, Ciorac!! Looks like an extremely nice copy! congrats!
  5. GE, those are some sweets FOX's!! Nice affordable condition too (right up my alley!) Definitely on my shopping list in the future.
  6. Coming in late on TEC 35 day, but just wanted to say its fantastic to see all the copies of this book. Not to mention the other pre-Robin DETECTIVE's... Wish there was a drool icon... (Steve: is there any classic cover you don't own in immaculate condition?)
  7. The colors on that copy are I used to own a high grade copy but without the bright colors and it didn't do much for me. Yours on the other hand would do just fine. One of the hidden qualities of Lou Fine covers are the color choices. How many GA artists used pink?...Take a moment and look at the color nuances and shades of his covers...I think the color selection is another reason the Fine covers just "jump" out at you...jon Jon, were most golden age artists responsible for the color choices for their work (ie: did they do some kind of color guides for the engravers to follow)? I've never thought about this before, but would like to know (I know this was the case in newspaper comics, at least I'm pretty sure). Some covers and stories are colored beautifully, while others literally pale in comparison. Regardless, that WONDERWORLD cover is outstanding!
  8. Well, you better put a pair of sunglasses on then! STEVE Got Larson? I'm not only blind, I'm speechless too. Steve, you continue to shock and awe. These are truly FANTASTIC books... don't know what else to say... something about the way that flash hits the spine, making the comics look fat and substantial, is a beautiful thing...
  9. PH: Always love to see that book!!! If you ever need extra spending money...
  10. Did you say talking gorilla?? Must ... have... it... And to Jon B. : VERY, VERY nice SUPERWORLD #1!! Outstanding book. Love that cover. I was fortunate enough to pick up all three issues this year, of course, no where near as nice as that one. Do you have issues #2 and #3? Back to your regularily scheduled FOX thread...
  11. Glad I waited for it! Great cover, P5!! How are the interior stories??? Are they.... W E I R D
  12. I'd like to see you come up with a FUNNY PAGES #35, or an A-MAN #22... THOSE would be true torture!! bring it on!!!
  13. That, Steve, is a mind-blowing copy of one of my three FAVORITE Centaur covers (the other two being AMF vol2/#5, and KEEN DET FUNNIES #20). I love it. That is so sharp, and the colors so intense... really incredible. Do you have any duds in your collection? You keep pulling books out that continually floor me. Would you consider adopting a 36 year old child?
  14. Absolutely wonderful Mystery Men , Steve. It makes me sick.
  15. Sweet Baby Jesus! what a great book!.... ........isn't that one of Kirby's first covers?......awesome I think its Kirby's first credited cover... contains the first story signed "Jack Kirby". Its got some great stories including "the Eternal Brain", in which a scientist dies and his brain is put in a fishbowl, and he fights wrong doers through a microphone/radio combo.
  16. That #36 really is a beaut!! These pre-hero books have a lot of appeal to them, which I never fully appreciated. Thanks for posting!
  17. Thanks loads CM!! Coming from someone who has an amazing array of books, that is high praise! Yes, I am very cover driven. Unfortunately, the collection may not grow for a while... time to take a break for a while. Still a few good stragglers out there I need to pay for, so those will be posted when they get in. I think you in particular, CentaurMan, will enjoy them.
  18. At the end of the day, I'm not so concerned about the type of resto done on a book... I just don't want to be aware of it when I'm looking at the book! Probably not the wisest attitude to have... I'll make some inquiries and see what the story is (if any) on this book!
  19. Thanks SS! Apparently, just some minor color touch on spine, and staples (top only?) reinforced. Yes, I saw the CLINK copy, and the METRO copy, both of which I could never justify paying that much for (unless I was filthy rich). The colors on this copy are very vivid. The red's are very nice and deep. As a lover of rare and obscure books, and Kirby art, this book has it all!
  20. Well, I have another shot's worth of GA material, so here is my third post to this thread. The RED RAVEN came in today, which is now the centerpiece of my collection. I have been very fortunate this year to be able to attain a lot of books I have wanted for years (ever since the Gerber Journals came out). There has been so much amazing books turning up in various threads lately (my fav's being the FOX and CENTAUR threads)... its so hard to visit a thread and NOT get sucked back into a collecting vortex! Hopefully this shot inspires some more group shots... ENJOY!!
  21. I see Steve is at it again , this time with the Timely's!! Great MM #4 Steve! Always loved that cover... it is almost painterly in its rendering... beauty. Here's a long -awaited grail that arrived via fed ex today... restoration? YES! But its minor, and I don't care... would never have been able to afford it otherwise. Have wanted this book since the arly '80's!! I'll be posting this book as much as possiible, so apologies in advance!
  22. Thanks Ryan - glad you're enjoying them! Over 25 years collecting GA. Lotsa hard work and lotsa luck (e.g., I just recently stumbled into the National 7 - it was the only superhero book that the elderly owner had left - which he had kept because it was his favorite). It's been a great ride so far. STEVE Got Larson? Well, your collection certainly has the markings of a GA "vet"... it is a fine accumulation, from what I've seen (and I'm sure thats just the tip of the iceburg). The books are beautifully consistant in their condition and colors! I, myself, have loved GA books since I first saw them (about 1980), but have only recently had any money to actually pick up the books I wanted. I envy guys like you who have been in the game for a while!! Seems like there was alot more to pick from, say, fifteen to twenty years ago, or is that just my immagination?
