  1. AF#15, 7.5 made its big jump earlier in 2017 when it went from a single low sale of $82.5K in 2016, to $102K in early 2017 and $140K in late 2017. Seems to correspond to Spider-Man: Homecoming hype?
  2. I think this was the adage that Nicolas Cage lived by.
  3. Nuts. If you are a collector, and can spend $100K-$150K on a book without any hardship, and want the best copy known, and don't care what you sell it for at some future date, you STILL have to be a little nuts to pay such a high premium over the 7.5 Mask Comics #2 that sold for $33,600 in June 2021, or $42K more dollars than the same Mask Comics #1 sold for on June 2021. There is nothing wrong with being nuts, "to each his own" and all that, but it usually isn't fiscally prudent. We all do it (I think). If you haven't overbid, and I mean overbid to the point of "what the heck am I doing still bidding" are you really a comic book collector?
  4. Over in the Heritage Auction thread they have been commenting about the Promise Collection books. A lot of those sold in 2021 and a bunch of them were auctioned off today. Most sold for considerably less than the first sale. Here are some examples PCH was a bright spot for the collection, both Eerie #1 and a Mask Comic #2 sold for more, or for the Mask, much more than the last sale.
  5. Exactly. If they don't think they are going to see that $300K for too long a timeframe, better to sell and invest in something with a greater chance for gain. That is why I think a lot of investors and speculators are going to jump ship and leave comics.
  6. Weird Mysteries 5 is more gross, but 4 has the Skull CoverTM and Zanti Misfits going for it. This value seems like a pretty big jump, but if it sticks, 4 seems to be closing the gap in price. There were sales of a 4 in Feb for $10k and a 5, also in Feb for $9K
  7. Heroes on the cracked half shell TMNT #1, 9.6, sold for $54K. Last sale was $69K in April 2022. TMNT #1, 9.4 sold for $28,800. Last sale was $39,999 in January 2022.
  8. True, PCH seems to be mostly unaffected at the high end and with the ECs. There seem to be some cracks forming on the lower graded books.
  9. The question is whether an ebbing tide will ultimately end up affecting all boats.
  10. I think the paper is there, just the color is missing, like a tape pull. I think that is graded less harshly than if a piece was actually missing.
  11. Oh my stars and garters! Punch Comics #12 at $31K looks like a steal compared to the $25K, 2.5 that sold recently. I blame Miss Charlotte Helen Scholk for the low price.
  12. Phantom Lady #17, 6.5, at $33,600. 5.0 sold in January for $30K. 7.0 in January of 2022 for $60K
  13. My perception is that it seemed to really struggle after the bidding went over $200K. I think one bidder really wanted this one (maybe the individual who lost last time) and the other bidder(s) were pretty reluctant to keep going.
  14. It does have some minor restoration removal, but I don't think that can be responsible for the entire drop. Here is a link: Amazing Fantasy #15
  15. Personally, I don't see how removing restoration that was not designed to be removed is not just more restoration. Allowing pressing and some color touch on GA books were steps on the slippery slope to allowing all kinds of restoration. The qualified and conserved label designation seem more like "covers" for things that I consider restoration (married covers, replaced staples). This is just a natural progression of that. It seems pretty arbitrary to draw a line here. I'm shocked, shocked, to find gambling is going on in here!
  16. I don't really understand all the hate this book is getting. It is not like it has subscription crease restoration that has been scratched out. There is no marvel chipping and the main image of Spider-Man looks great. I don't really think the book looks "destroyed."
  17. ok, thats just nucking futs. Guess it shows the GA market is alive and well, but damnnnnn I think it is just nuts. A fool and his money...
  18. Yeah we predicted that would be the only Promise to at least break even. Both Eerie #1 and Mask #1 were up from the last sale. Horror is still strong. But I don't know how someone can justify paying $144K when it last sold for $102K less than 2 years ago, but that is just me. I wonder if this will be up for auction again in a year and a half.
  19. And if this sells again in a relatively short time frame it will sell for even less.
  20. There are going to be a lot of financial losses in the near future. Heritage Auction today: Amazing Fantasy #15 in 7.5 sold for $117K, last sale was $198K.
  21. I was actually at Disneyland from Wednesday to Friday last week and mentioned to my wife that we could drive back to New Mexico on Sunday instead of Saturday and go to Wondercon. And, well... we drove back on Saturday. Looks like I missed a so so time!
  22. Did not see this one posted yet from last nights GA CL auction: Promise Collection Miss Fury #1 sold for $1750. HA sale was $2160 for a -19% return.
  23. Remember they reworked the W-4 in 2020 so withholding would be more accurate, so refunds are not as big as they were in previous years. Everyone was mad because they weren't loaning the government money all year.
