So, my #1 Grail - Contact #12, was found within a year of seeing it in the Photo Journals in 1994.  My #2 Grail - Shadow Vol 8 #4, took 18 years to locate.  My #3 Grail - Cinderella Love #25, took 8 years to find.  My Grail's have always been more obscure, but affordable books when found.  That might not be the case today. hm  Now I have new Grail's to search for.  It never ends...

    Great books

Apparently, once he got tired of the hobby, he stored his books in a hot TX garage. At one time, I owned a handful of mid era FH issues. They were all browned pretty bad inside the covers and I ended up selling or trading them off with no “pedigree” notation…

Excuse my ignorance, but Burrell has now left the hobby? And what about Chuck? Still in business?

  3. Ive tried very hard to like it but am disappointed. I really expected more out of Watterson. The book itself looks gorgeous, but that’s it for me. The artistic rendering of the characters look like cabbage patch dolls, and the narrative is underwhelming. It takes 5 minutes to read, literally. I respect Watterson trying for a cosmic fable, but it just didn’t work for me.

he needs to get back to Calvin and Hobbes

What do you think? Many people would buy books from Satan if the price is right.

Yes, agreed, but the comic book collecting field, at least according to the guy who discovered the heist and authored the article, conducts itself with less honor than the rare book collecting field

a little more info here at the above link.

This sordid caper doesn’t speak well of comic collectors. The following observation is from the book dealer who first discovered the theft:

“There are people I’ve spent many hours on the phone with. There’s been a lot of comic-book theft in Portland lately – private collections, stores broken into – and part of the reason for that is dealers and collectors will buy stuff from sketchy people. Until they stop doing that, there’s a lot of incentive to steal comics. They are easy to fence.”

I sure hope someone swings for this

  6. I came across this book in the current Heritage weekly, and stopped for a look more out of astonishment than anything else: Superman GGA? Wait, what??

then, upon closer inspection, I think this gets honorable mention in “dumbest covers ever”, which is exactly where I would have posted this if only I could find the thread. Superman’s vaudeville act is to let someone shoot him in the face!!  Seriously?
