  1. I recently had a potential 9.8 Something is Killing the Children 1 sent in for signing...it came back as a 8.5 with a very noticeable defect on the back cover..looked like someone had crumpled the spine causing three radial bends thru the back cover (did not send to CCS). I have sent in hundreds of books and I know how to send them thru the mail so they aren't damaged..never had any damage from USPS before this. There is no way this type of damage could have happened inside the parcel..had to happen once removed. There is no accountability from CGC...I will never use them again... although this was the only time it has happened, this was too big a screw up by them for me to want to go back.
  2. You can try the 9.8 CGC strategy, in which you send in loads of books that have potential 9.8 grading ..then sell the 9.8's. I tried this with my entire collection of 2000 books. I screened them all with my own eyes and I sent in probably about 250 books, got about 150 graded 9.8 and sold them all on MCS. I made about 500 dollars over cost of entire 250 books (the book's initial cost and grading /shipping etc)..so not too bad. These were all books that would not be allowed to sell on MCS individually Raw. It was also fun going thru the process. then .... You can sell in lots (on Ebay and MCS) for those comics that you can't sell individually (time consuming and MCS won't allow too many of these too quickly...and MCS takes a longer time to grade and post these for auction)..I did this.... you will lose money over your initial costs of buying them but you will recoup more than selling entire boxes at once. oh and BTW, MCS states they have minimum grades for sales of raws BUT they are flexible with this rule ..especially with certain titles
  3. So what if you cut holes in the cover( edges) to remove any color touchups, is that trimming ? And would you need to rough up that edge to make it not trimming?
  4. 1..not surprised at all, I understand that mistakes happen, but I have also never seen CGC take accountability for a damaged book (from the postings of others)...scanning the book on arrival could be a way to mitigate the accountability but I am guessing that with the volume of books they do, they have no incentive It does make me wonder (moreso) about the ASM 55 Patrick Gleason cover (brand new, never opened plastic on my part) that should have been a 9.8 SS (by Gleason) but for the water stain it had in the middle of the cover at grading that knocked it down to a 9.4...go figure I'm just feeling it's not worth it to pay over 150 dollars (with shipping) to get a signature and encase in plastic, anymore (I would rather just meet the artist in person now and keep the comic raw, much more satisfying and much less expensive). Even if it isnt CGC's fault..the service is too expensive anyway and rarely does it add to the value of the book (and too many things can go wrong in the chain of custody)..oh and not to mention the wait times on some of these..terrible
  5. Liquid Sky 1982lili Liquid Sky 1982 A small, heroin seeking UFO lands on a Manhattan roof, observes a bizarre, drug addicted fashion model and sucks endorphin from her sexual encounters
  6. If you’re curious , CGC graded it an 8.5 .. which is what it should be now .. the value of this book was cut in half. I’ve never had any 'real' issues with CGC .. and have sent in hundreds of books but no more signings .. these are more personal for me and I can’t take the chance on one of these books getting mangled again ..just not worth it
  7. Sent in a book I bought from MCS , which was graded 9.2 ( if you know about MCS, they tend to downgrade) but CGC seriously mishandled this one. I don’t think I can really prove they did this. I won’t be using their service anymore though for signings. Three serious bends that radiate out, and also caused serious color breaking spine ticks (any worse they would be tears). Because of the plastic casing, it's hard to get a good picture but it’s worse than it looks. Unfortunately , I don’t have before pics .. except MCS picture .. but of course CGC would say that it could have been damaged when they sent it to me.
  8. simplest solution would be to use cinder blocks with planks of wood ..this way you could control the dimensions more easily https://www.thesurvivalgardener.com/easy-modernist-cinder-block-bookshelves-actually-look-good/
  9. vintage stuck in Grading/Quality control for a week
  10. it depends on the book but I think on average, about 50%....I once spent an hour comparing purple to blue books..and I got 50% as a number
  11. Used Ebay a few times...nothing bad happened, just didnt like having the anxiety over the liability of losing money over any issues with shipping so I turned to MCS...I have been selling and buying on MCS for several years (auctions)...great experience. I buy from comic link, I wont sell on their site because CL will list multiple copies of the same issue at very similar grades..I have noticed that when this happens, sellers seem to lose out..great for buyers though. MCS strictly limits the number of same issues at auction
  12. I am curious to know why shortboxed has CGC grades on raws..confusing
  13. I send my slabs to mycomicshop.com and have been doing so for 3 years with no problems and great returns (have sold hundreds of slabs) They only charge 8% (auction) with a 5 dollar minimum. You send them the slabs and they deal with the shipping to customers and all the liability. You can choose auction or BIN
  14. These are the ones posted above with Spider Boy on the front jumping over building and a pigeon at the corner, Spider-Man 7E
  15. Spiderman 7 (first Spiderboy, Ramos Variant CGC 9.8), sellers at Wa State comic con told me last week that they received a lot of requests for it. ( Interesting note: MCS has auctioned two of these in recent weeks for 145 and one at 155 current...but you can buy them on Ebay for 99...some people not doing their due diligence)
  16. I can tell you from experience that sometimes they wait to enter a submission depending on the artist..no idea why they wait for some but not others
  17. submission finally showed up ..drama over
  18. They are giving you the ole boiler plate answer..they could have at least done their homework and checked the grader notes before answering you ..CGC is doing a terrible job training their customer service people but I would say the grade was correct, from the grader notes...you can even see the small crease in the bottom right corner in your pre picture...but unfortunately, it will have a large crease there now
  19. will probably call tomorrow ..never had much luck with calling before on other issues (except billing)
  20. well, like I said..I already communicated with them
  21. I sent in my Mcfarlane on sept 8th ..received a few days later and opened within three days..signed on Oct 5. The deadline for this was Nov 11. Because Mcfarlane was expected to be a popular signing, they had him sign on different dates as they were expecting late submissions..I am guessing same thing happened with Miller. These are outliers (because of overwhelming popularity) and can't be extrapolated to other signings.
