  1. Could be static making the cover cling to the bag. That can result in waves.
  2. Could be. I need to have negative air flow out a window when I use this stuff. It’s bad news.
  3. Remove as much of the bag as possible and then use a hairdryer to soften the glue. This will help lift the remaining plastic off the cover. And residual glue can be cleaned with naphtha or any solvent that will not lift the ink. Don’t use lacquer thinner or olive oil. I have seen the results of others who tried them on glue. Not pretty.
  4. Keep in mind that these books are most likely being handled by receiving first and the books have to be entered into the system. I don’t know the process but I can only imagine they need to get this done as soon as possible. After that the books have to be inspected for restoration, page count and quality, etc. Then they have to be put into the inner well. I know it’s easy for the blame to fall on third party pressers but a competent pressed would have to have had a momentary seizure to send in books with thumb creases, bends, etc.

  6. I’m 59. My dad made it very simple once I became old enough to work (I was 12 when I stated working for him), you don’t want to work and your bike gets stolen, to bad. You want money to go to the beach or movies with your friends, to bad. He taught me to have a strong work ethic even if I didn’t need the money at the time. Being self employed his whole life he always reminded me you never know when you will get your next pay check.
  7. A lot of people think that a CPR is this magical process. Here is a very common scenario I run across all the time. Customer sends in a book with pressable defects. I look up when the book was graded or ask if it was done at a show (if they know). Book was graded during a loose period. Customer still wants to roll the dice. Book gets pressed and defects are removed. Book comes back same grade or lower. Over the years grading consistency has always been an issue, and a CPR does not always mean a guaranteed bump on a book. You need to know everything about the book before you attempt an upgrade.

  9. I would recommend boxing, insuring and mailing the books in yourself.
  10. A slice at staple is where the paper splits between the two staple holes. Since square bound books are not stapled along the spine, the split happens about 1/4 inch in from the spine.
  11. Years ago, I had found a super high grade run of all the Todd McFarlane covers and had them signed. I was getting $300 and up per copy in 9.8. The 9.6's were getting in the $125-150 range depending on the cover. So, they have value, but you have to get creative.
  12. I would imagine so. Think about where the focus is for CGC right now. It's not on what older submitters are used to sending in to be graded. The collecting masses have created a paradigm shift, and IMO the main focus is now on modern SS.
  13. I wonder why economy tier books became the red headed step child.
  14. They do not. Can you show me how bad the overhang is?
  15. This, this and this. When you think about all the processes involved in pressing and grading a comic, the one process you don’t want rushed is the pressing. There a more involved than wham, bam thank thank you slam. Reversion can happen, and if a book is quickly pressed, thrown into a box and shipped to CGC (especially in the Florida summer) a lot can happen to a book that has not had time to sit properly. This is why I don’t apologize for my TAT’s. I could get 30-40 more books done per day if I rushed things. I know what a book needs, and that can vary even if pressing the same issue of the book. Many factors to take into consideration that the quick pressers don’t understand, don’t care about or simply are unable to do.
  16. Some creases leave a faint remnant, others can re-appear if a books cover is opened and the person has gorilla hands. This can be true even for creases that don’t break color. All depends how bad they were to begin with. In this case a picture is worth a thousand words.
