  1. My LCS recently bought a collection that reeked of mothballs. That didn't stop me from buying the 2 issues I needed to complete my Not Brand Echh collection. I just aired them out for a few weeks, as Joey did
  2. One good use I've had for multiple copies is when I have an opportunity for a celebrity signing. That way I can get one copy signed, and still have an unsigned copy in my collection. Does that explain my 20 copies of New Mutants Special Edition #1? No. No, it doesn't.
  3. I always figure the bend will work itself out when the books are in their long-term storage, snug in a longbox.
  4. I would worry about *possible* fading on the spines.
  5. Same, except for longer than that. Just had an ASM 252 come back 9.6, after being stored upright in bag and board in a longbox for decades. I think all this talk of "what's the best way to store?" aside from climate control (temperature, humidity, light exposure) is much ado about nothing.
  6. Spider-Man 2099 was written by Peter David, and was on-par with his other books at the time (to me, that's a good thing - I'm a fan). S-M 2099's 1st appearance might be a common issue, but I have rarely seen truly high grade copies in the wild. The combination of black cover, hologram, oversized page count, and cardstock cover (but not squarebound) is a treacherous obstacle course of a path to a 9.8.
  7. I generally do between 10 and 20. Under 10 and it's too pricey for me per book; over 20 and it's too pricey for me, period!
  8. I've kept my entire 40+ year collection in polybags and regular boards in my basement with a dehumidifier and that's worked great for me. I just had a sub of 70s and 80s books come back from CGC with noted "WHITE pages." This is for books nearly 50 years old. I don't doubt that expensive mylar and buffer boards can slow the aging process, but when you have as many books as I do, that's cost-prohibitive for what appears (to me) to be a comparatively negligible slowing of age.
  9. Good luck (sincerely). Though if this is your first time sending stuff away for grading, prepare yourself for disappointment. 9.8 is pretty much a perfect comic book. Like, PERFECT. Two color-breaking tics on the spine (or elsewhere) and you're done for.
  10. $1800 for that Action issue?! Golly. And I'm pretty sure I have multiple high grade copies of that Legacy of Superman book. I wasn't aware it was worth anything more than $2.00.
  11. Economy received by CGC in June has been stuck in GEI for weeks. Meanwhile, a Modern received in September was in GEI for about 3 days and is now in QC. No FT on either sub. I dunno what's going on, but I guess I'll take it..?
  12. I probably have 20K+ books that I'm just now starting to consider prepping for eventual sale. The first step was getting a CGC membership a couple of years ago and getting some of the larger keys professionally appraised by them. Step 2 will be this year finally getting around to dumping my duplicates, while still picking through the collection for keys to send to CGC. I have my comics sorted by publisher (Marvel, then DC, then indies alphabetically by publisher), and in my pulling I'm up to just Batman, which is probably almost halfway through my entire collection. So I've basically pulled all the Marvel stuff I want to get graded eventually, though I do go back when certain books heat up (See: Scott Lang, Kate Bishop, Warlock/"Him") or I think of something I may have missed the first time around. After the dupes are gone, I'll probably start selling the "lesser" titles in my main collection, or stuff that I don't hold as much emotional attachment to. After that will be the meat of the collection, which I'm hoping to start selling in maybe 7 or 8 years, pay off the house, and maybe retire early (I'll probably be in my late 50s by then). Unless the entire bottom drops out of the comic market and then I have to work until I'm 80.
  13. If you "only want a 9.8" you're probably out of luck. Those color-breaking creases appear to be rather significant. I would post these pics and high-res scans of the entire front and back covers to the "Please Grade My..." forum topic for further opinions.
  14. That's some Sal Buscema-level a$$-over-teakettle fighting LOL
  15. Just want to point out that I think the kits have been out of stock for some time now....
  16. No need to post a video for clicks (if it's your video) if your question is just, "my submission arrived damaged - what should I do?"
  17. You do remember there was a time when it was a case of "Guardians of..what? What is Marvel thinking by not sticking to their A-listers!"
  18. Well, that didn't take long for another price increase, not long at all. Thanks, Blackstone!
