  1. I had exactly all of this happen to me - split order, some to be pressed, charged for pressing and charged the full cost for the non-pressed books. I've been trying for weeks to get an answer from the signature department regarding having only some sent back raw, and having some graded. In the meantime, while going back and forth with accounting on some questionable charges, they ended up refunding my charges for the Perez books, though as has been explained on the forums by admins, if we opt to have the books graded we will be issued a partial refund. While I'm glad to have my money refunded, I'm now wondering if this will muck up the process when/if I decide to have some books stay at CGC to be graded. In short: ugh. I have a bunch of books I'm waiting to send to CGC for grading, but I'm not sending in a thing until everything with this is sorted out. For three weeks we've been hearing "everybody should be contacted within a week," but here we are.

I'm at nearly two weeks since asking (twice, now) the signature department if I can split my Perez order between having some returned to me raw, and going ahead and getting the remainder graded with the Perez label. I can't make a final decision on my books until I fully understand my options. But sure, let's advertise 8 new signing events in the coming months.
  3. Todd's ASM run was pretty much the "HUSH" of its day, minus the interconnecting storyline. Just as Hush was just Loeb scripting opportunities for Jim Lee to draw Batman's Rogues, at some point Micheline buoyed Todd's growing popularity by giving him the opportunity to tackle Spidey's catalogue of villains. I've always been partial to the Lizard and Mysterio covers, particularly the latter.
  4. I don't see the physics of vertical storage causing the dark marks. Staple stress/pulling/creasing? Maybe. But the dark marks look like something that would occur from the cover being pressed on that area, not pulled downward by gravity.
  5. I've noticed it since Marvel (in particular) started using crappier stock for their covers. So...15 years, give-or-take? I don't know if some runs are more prone than others (e.g. if copies of #23 of FF's most recent series ALL have that defect, or if ALL copies of Marvel books with an April 2019 cover date have it), but those marks seem common, and it's definitely a production defect.
  6. That's where they get ya. Get stricter on very light (read: pressable) defects, convincing customers to use CCS. Profit.
  7. Follow-up: I got a curt email back from accounting did not answer many (any?) questions I had asked regarding the mystery charges. They did not explain the $3.00 overcharge, and did not verify which orders the charges were for. I was essentially told the information that was cut off on the payment report was none of my concern. But they did refund my money for the Perez signing on the books that weren't going to go through CCS, though I didn't yet state what I would like done with the books. I'm still awaiting response from the signature team regarding splitting the order (having some still graded, the others mailed back raw). One would think the signature team would get their ducks in a row with the Perez submissions before announcing, what, 8+ additional signing events? Maybe I should just be thankful that I'm probably the only person so far that has gotten their refund (even though it was only partial)?
  8. Wait, you already had it cleaned and pressed - and the grade went DOWN - and you're hoping another press will bring it up? I would think the 1st pressing, if done correctly, would have already taken care of the pressable defects. Your only hope would be that you get softer grading when re-sent.
  9. Newton rings allegedly happen when the inner well makes contact with the outer case (if I'm remembering that right). It can happen on all types of books, and I'm not aware of slabbed thicker books being more prone to newton rings. I would ask for accurate pics of the spine to see if you are willing to live with the rings, which can be minor. There is no way to reduce/remove the rings. If your case has newton rings and you hate the look of it, your only recourse is to send it to CGC for a reholder.
  10. I usually make an initial attempt to take the sticker off. If it's being fussy, I leave it. Sometimes they come right off extremely easily, and yes, I've seen instances where the color is more vibrant underneath the sticker, but I would rather have that small rectangular/square/circular spot that blends in better than a big ol' sticker. If you're lucky, the sticker glue is all dried up and the whole thing pops off with a couple flecks of the fingernail.
  11. I don't think this is correct. I sent several books to the now-cancelled Perez signing, and was only going to have two pressed. The two that were going to be pressed are still "checked in" at CCS, and I did in fact get charged $40 for pressing charges on the two books - even though the signing has been cancelled and I haven't responded to CGC/CCS with how I want them to proceed with my books (I asked some questions about splitting the order nearly 2 weeks ago that have yet been answered).
  12. I mainly use eBay as a store, preferring "buy-it-now" items. No shill bidding involved when it's not an auction listing. The other sites mentioned here all seem waaaaaay overpriced and out of my league by a long shot.
  13. Yeah, that seems the way to go. It looks like they're charging, then refunding whatever amount is the difference between original charge and the charge for the new services you opt for, which is BACK-WARDS. How about not charging anything until you actually know what people are choosing? Who knows when we will see refunds for those books that are receiving zero services and just having their books shipped back to them. Meanwhile, the charges are racking up interest fees on my CC. That's actual lost money.
  14. I am 100% not making any more submissions to CGC until things are sorted out with my books that are already there. Getting charged for services not rendered, incorrect charges, no response to what I want to happen to my books - what a nightmare.
  15. It has been over a week since I asked the signature department if I could split my sub between different options (i.e. have some sent back to me raw, others graded at the discount). I have not heard back, so I sent another email today. I *DID* finally hear back from accounting regarding some mystery charges. They sent me an extremely confusing "payment report" that was even cut off on the right hand side, so not all the information was visible. From what I could deduce, two of the three charges were for a submission I sent in December; the third was for part of the Perez signing, though it appears they overcharged for shipping by $3.00. My packing slip said shipping would be $40, and I was charged $43. The charge appears to be for the Perez books I was NOT having pressed. I have not yet been charged grading/shipping fees for the two I wanted pressed at the time, though I did get charged the $40 in pressing fees by CCS. This whole thing is a HUGE headache. I've said it before, but it bears repeating that CGC *REALLY* needs to have a part of our online account page that details all charges in an extremely transparent manner. Honestly, I'm sure it would save them time and headache dealing with all the customers that have no effing clue what's going on with their amount owed, charges made months late, and account credits from subscription renewals.
  16. I emailed over a week ago about possibly splitting the order between options, and also contacted the accounting department over several high-dollar charges made in one day to my credit card, none of which match any of my invoices. I have yet to get any response whatsoever for either matter. When brought up on the boards, I'm told "be patient." Meanwhile, interest charges are mounting on the billed amounts.
  17. Yes, this too! I've found lots of great runs to READ in dollar boxes! Especially some really great Vertigo stories, etc. I consider it a win if I find a complete miniseries that I've been curious to read, which happens once in a while. $4 for a complete miniseries is better than paying $15 for the trade paperback, with the added bonus of being the actual original issues. Did I mention I'm poor and a cheapskate?
  18. I asked this same question to the signature crew several days ago. I also wanted to know if I could split the Perez signing order so that some just get returned raw, and others either get graded (since they're there anyway) and/or moved to the Wolfman signing. I have yet to hear back. It appears the cancellation of the Perez signing has severely complicated things for the signature and accounting departments.
