  1. I like it. I'll be placing my bids for sure.
  2. Didn't this TEC 29 just sell last month as restored but no trim noted? I was scared off because it had been mentioned as once trimmed. If it did sell where is the listing on HA? Yes. The sale from the last auction was canceled. OK Thanks. Who cancelled the sale buyer or HA? the buyer OK I would think then the buyer had HA resubmit and if trimmed no deal if not trimmed then deal. If the sale didn't happen on the untrimmed version of the comic why is GPA showing it did happen at $22,108 on Nov 17 and the label notes say "Restoration includes: tear seals to interior, spine splits sealed to cover. (CENTERFOLD TRIMMED.)" Graded 11/30/16 which is a week after it sold. Anyway it would have sold for maybe $15K tops I believe if Trimmed had originally been noted. Could well be, but for me the cf being trimmed on a book like this wouldn't be that big a deal, given the book's other problems. I would agree if your intention was to leave comic alone but if you had plans of making it say 1.0 blue that ideal went out the window with trimmed CF. Everything else could be undone. Was thinking that too. After I learned it was trimmed, i backed out of bidding higher
  3. Wow that is for sure one of the nicest AF15's I have ever seen!! Any guesses on what it will sell for? My guess is that this 9.0 copy on CC will go a long way to keeping the price down on the 8.5 copy coming up at HA. Especially with both copies due out only a few weeks apart. HA must be feeling a bit as the 9.0 copy will certainly steal some of the thunder from their 8.5 copy. This.. well maybe for both consignors I'd say. Talk about terrible timing.
  4. You could do some damage in GA with that for sure. Plenty of damage and would likely buy a GA key or two with that amount
  5. If I had $150k to spend, it definitely wouldn't be that book.
  6. Should be around $300? The value you put on the book is also the insurance value of it basically when they ship it back to you. Best to submit to a dealer so you can get either a 10% or 20% discount if you want.
  7. I think the only tier this book would be under would be walk through which is 3% of the value. There is also a thread on here as well as in the CGC website on how to properly package a book for shipment. It's quite simple and easy actually.
  8. At least read the book first and handle carefully before you have it slabbed hehe
  9. Looks unrestored to me. Yes you can definitely send the book to CC and they can have it slabbed for you. They will just charge you for it. I think they can even get a 20% discount on CGC fees.
  10. Wow nice book and one of my favorite GA books actually. Glad I got one also
  11. You purchased a nice 5.5 WP at a terrific price/timing. Prices have been rising for SC22 across the board recently. Lucky for you that you have an 8.5 already I held and held and held... I should one day show my new four horseman's...all above 6.0+ You're a smart man for holding on for this long and being patient.. Unfortunately I wasn't Nah... you did well with your golden age stash Too much cool books out there. I guess I did but true on those statements. Too much books Id like to own, so little money to spend Give it time to add more.
  12. Or we can ban you I don't take up much room, and I shower beforehand. I have my new passport ready to ravage the US shows for the next 10 years Wait till Trump becomes the President
  13. It is quite amazing. 20 years ago an entry level Batman #1 was a $6-8K book. And a price of $80K would buy you everything but the top 10 individual copies of books in the hobby. Now we are looking at 80K doesn't even get you in the door on the top few key books and is entry-low level for many titles. Yep I remember those days. With $80k, I probably could've bought a low graded Tec 27 then. Times have certainly changed. Books like MF 73 and AS 8 were undervalued than for who knows how long and now have exploded up in value which puts them in the same tier (value wise) as Cap 1, Bat 1, etc. basically in the 5 figure range min.
  14. If anything, I believe mid to lower graded copies of Hulk 1 have stabilized and higher graded copies 8.0+ continue to soar because of rarity.
  15. Are we talking about the CBCS Pep 22 with extensive resto? Is this an IGB book? This is an not a IGB. old school resto because of the re gloss... very old shoool resto 1990's style. It was probbaly a 1.5 2.0 prior. No major pieces added or grafted. If it was IGB it would be a 9.6 ? You can see that there is a pencil mark ok the i of comics Also the spine wear is still evident and IGB wouldnt. An honest old school resto job. Well done. Definetly not An IGB Also this is not a common hulk 1 made into a 9.6 but the rarest top ten golden age book of Archie that kid named chick Only 12 unrestored cgc and 11 resto. A total of 23 books!! compared to the 66 copies of action comics 1!!! A pep 9.0 extensive sold for 30k with a logo from a a pep 30. This is on has upgrade potential via Matt nelson at ccs most likely. So a strong 7.0. An extensive 5.5 just sold for 21 250$.. This 7.0 can be upgraded since it has dirt ,pencil mark on cover and color breaking creases. Also the CW archie series should help give a good boost to previous sales. Well the Pep #22 CBCS copy sold for $20,250. Last year this same copy sold at CC for a little more than $23k.. Just goes to show that movies, tv shows, etc have no impact on GA keys, only SA and newer IMO.

  17. It could go either way. I've seen both low grade copies begin a groundswell that pushes up high grade books and I've seen ultra high grade copies break records and bring up low grade copies as the tide rises (and I could list books that it has happened to both ways). It all depends on how it plays out in the market in regards to availability, supply, demand, etc. What I disagree with with is when one book sets a new record it's assumed that all books immediately follow the same trend. Unless there is reason to believe an outlier is a part of a trend it's really just an outlier. Low grade GA keys has been rising the last few years due to the higher priced on the high grade GA keys. The market will see HG GA keys play catch-up once the lower grades moves up even more. Of course, there are outliers out there, but the rapid rise recently on low grade GA keys are happening. Which keys are you talking about? It literally goes both ways, depending on whether there are a lot of low grade copies building up the base first or a higher grade copy setting a bench mark that everyone accepts and then lower grade copies filling the gap. I don't think low grade is pushing up high grade prices on all GA keys. In many cases, the higher grade copies have sold (Batman #1, and Action #1 highest graded) and then lower copies have followed suit. If you're saying that all Batman #1 2.0 copies are worth $80K now and going to push up the higher grade copies I disagree. There's enough data across the board to show how Batman #1 trends are happening. A 6.5 just sold for less than a 5.5 a few weeks ago. Much less. I'm refereeing to the GA super keys: the majority of the top 20 OSPG Super-heroes books in the last few years. The Batman 1 6.5 presented at this auction had poor eye appeal at the spine and the 2.0 presented quite nicely with nice off-white PQ. One can judge that the well presenting Batman 1 5.5 which sold for 239K might have pulled the 2.0 up too. Of course, the eye appeal and PQ matters. Agreed on eye appeal and PQ. I mean what happened to the Larson Bats 1? Looked like that went for a bargain compared to lower graded copies that sold and it had tremendous eye appeal and PQ. I predicted that copy to sell min. $500k.

  19. I don't think it's any fault of the auction house, it's the consignors that want to consign them right now due to varying reasons. Unless of course the auction house would tell each and every consignor who has the same book they'd like to sell but all in different grades that there will be multiple other copies in the auction, than that would be a different story. My comment on auction fatigue wasn't really based on the Hulk #1's. There were quite a few but I've come to expect that, and I don't think a bidder on an 8.5 is going to really bid on a 7.5 or 5.5 (although the 5.5 and the 6.0 were a little close IMO). But there were a LOT of big books in this auction and a few people I spoke to that may have gone after more than 1 big book in this auction didn't go all out in case they actually won and couldn't afford a second big book. Let's face it, an auction with many 6 figure books is a big auction (and we just finished Comiclink and Heritage as well) and most people don't have pockets that deep to spend on funny books even if they are millionaires. I agree with your comments that there is some auction fatigue going on and even people out on vacation who maybe forgot to bid or have too much expenses at the moment. Perhaps if the CC consignors agreed to have time payments for the bigger books, than we can certainly see higher sale prices for those we thought that went for bargains, but that is not the case. I know the Lasry collection had time payment plans for every book auctioned I believe. And it seems that buyers/investors/collectors are targeting specific books hence why we see some books selling at record prices while others are selling for lower than average. There is just so many things going on.

  22. Well the CGC 8.5 ended at 132 000$....is that higher that what a similar graded AF15 would fetch? Gonna be close, but I think an AF 15 CGC 8.5 would sell at least $150k
  23. There's a newly listed 2.0 universal copy on ebay if anyone wants to join the club
  24. That is also likely a QC issue. CGC slabs a lot of books. As Vintagecomics keeps reiterating, ANY glue on a post-1950 book, regardless of perceived intent, is an automatic PLOD. Same goes with colour touch. Any SA book with "small amount of colour touch" on the label in a blue label has also slipped past QC (I have seen a handful of those as well). -J. Pretty sure that you're wrong on this. Color touch, yes. Glue, no. If you can show me where it says this anywhere on CGC's website, I would really like to know. It took ten seconds to find a half dozen examples in Heritage's archives on SA books. Consistently "small amount of dried glue" was blue label. No results were purple labels. And it spans back to as early as 2005. It's not that I particularly care one way or the other. But put yourself in the shoes of the buyer who just dropped 36 grand on his copy. That could've been his life savings and his holy grail once in a lifetime purchase, and you are on here saying it's tainted and it should be a purple label if not for CGC's QC dropping the ball. If I was him, I would be furious. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-incredible-hulk-1-marvel-1962-cgc-vg-40-cream-to-off-white-pages-this-classic-first-issue-from-marvel-features-the/a/15092-17418.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 (Hulk 1, 2005) https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-avengers-1-marvel-1963-cgc-vg-40-off-white-to-white-pages/a/121620-13189.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 (Avengers 1, 2016) https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superman-104-dc-1956-cgc-vf-nm-90-off-white-pages/a/7007-93320.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 (Superman 104, 2009) https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-flash-120-dc-1961-cgc-vf-85-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/110074-14260.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 (Flash 120, 2010) https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/wonder-woman-97-dc-1958-cgc-vf-75-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/110071-11419.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 (Wonder Woman 97, 2010) I understand what you are trying to say, and yes, if I look I can find examples of other QC problems with labels, ie, wrong titles and issue numbers, artist names mis-spelled, etc. Feel free to contact CGC yourself to confirm. SA + Glue = PLOD. There's a reason why the book went for a third less than all other sales in grade this year. People knew what they were (or weren't) bidding on. -J. Occam's razor. Scenario A: CGC's QC absolutely blows, and they consistently got it wrong. Every. Single. Time. Scenario B: Small amount of dried glue is supposed to be a blue label, as every example shows. You say A, I say B. I'll agree to disagree. Okay I just called CGC and did confirm that, yes, glue on SA books are PLOD, 99.99999%, HOWEVER, if it is residual glue, having never served a restorative purpose (in the opinion of the grader), then ON VERY RARE OCCASION, they will still put it in a blue label, with glue notes. This, of course, still isn't really going to help a book with that kind of notation, as glue notes on a SA book, because they are so uncommon, are a massive scarlet letter that will turn off many buyers, especially since you cannot remove glue (and thereby getting rid of the notation), without scraping the book and likely defacing/damaging it. And as for all three of those DC books you linked with "glue on the spine", those DEFINITELY should be PLODs, and are in fact a QC oversight. -J. I was just gonna write something similar to that
