Just got droped off by the USPS a little while ago.  Happy on some of the grades, saddened by a couple, and surprised by one.

Was happy to get one of the Killing Jokes back in 9.8.  Needed that one for an upgrade to the registry set.

The ASM212 they hit hard on foxing

Detective Comics 880, a bit disappointed, but, I missed a corner bend that breaks color.  Really small one.

The Vengeance of Bane had a readers crease along the spine.  Was a late addition to the submission, so, while disappointed, not that upset

The Hulk I thought would come back at least a 9.4, possibly 9.6

    20190705_140018.thumb.jpg.7e5fef8eeaf668c26849b3bf806cbd3b.jpg

DC Comics presents, bought it off the boards as a 9.6, so, a bit disappointed, especially after it being pressed by CCS

The Devil Dinosaur was a surprise.  Another last minute addition to the submission.  Was thinking 9.6 at best after press.

Invaders is what I thought, but, hoping for a bump to 9.6

Batman Mad Love I thought was going to lock in at 9.8.  Whoops, guess not.

The X-men 101 was hoping for a bump, as I had it at 8.5 before the press.

The other X-men 101 is a really nice looking 4.5, was hoping for around a 6/0/6.5 neighborhood

You may have missed ink rub/loss on that Mad Love. I used to drive myself crazy subbing that one and getting 9.2-9.4 on copies that looked like potential 9.8's until I started noticing that most of them had some ink issues. It's pretty common with that book.

Don't forget the biggest one of all - Peter Panzerfaust

Went as far as visual ads for a BBC series with Elijah Woods, Summer Glau and Ron Perlman - all of whom committed to the show and did live interviews.

    Then - poof. Gone.

Revival (10K for a 10.0) - Les Revenants amongst other TV shows killed that one.

Zombies Vs Robots (shanghied by a crappy Dolph Lundgen film)

Powers - Actual preview episodes filmed and then canned.

Yeah, Todd - I remember Ken coming on here announcing a Disney series, toy and clothing deal - nope, nothing. And no more ken either. Funny that.

I thought Powers was a series on Playstation something or other. Am I imagining that?

Yep... first time around contacted him because he hadn't shipped for a week after I paid (he printed the shipping label but didnt send, and his stated shipping time was 2-3 days). so then he eventually sent it, but as I said it ended up being delivered 15 days after I paid and was in a crushed box. So I contacted him again about the crushed box and suggested the 2 box solution to avoid crushing in the future. He refunded my shipping though with no comment (so I know he saw my message), and I left a neutral feedback (when I probably should have just left a poor feedback due to the delays and poor communication).

I really like his product, but really wish he was better at completing his transactions and shipping...

I've had the same problem with this guy. Ordered 4 repro inserts and it was probably a month before he shipped them. Wouldn't respond to any messages. Opened a case and they magically showed up in a couple of days. I haven't left any negative feedback because I figured he would block, and even though it took a while, I will probably need more from him in the future. If there's anyone else that does these for the price I'd love to know about it.

  4. I was talking to another dealer friend of mine recently about pseudo collecting. I kind of do that a bit. Sometimes I'll pay more for a book that I like having in my inventory, so in a way I'm collecting it until the market decides it's worth paying me what I need to let it go. As far as books go, I eventually sell everything with a few exceptions. The Turtles 1 1st print that ended up getting a CGC 9.2 was given to me on the end of a deal. I haven't tried selling it. The fact that it was free rationalizes it to me that I can keep it without guilt. The books that have been given to me by creators that are friends I keep. I have a fairly large OA collection and the majority of that I keep, and only sell the occasional thing. I have a boxed G1 Transformers collection that I've grown attached to, and will probably keep. Beyond what I've mentioned, there are few random things I keep, but 99.9% of the books I've bought have been sold or will be sold at some point. I sell many many thousands of books a year, and don't really get too attached to any of it. I set up at my first show in 92, so I've been at it for a while. I'd say in the past 10-15 years I've gotten way more towards the "everything is inventory" mentality obviously excluding the examples above.

You may have already viewed this in the PGM thread, but I have to post it here...

This book was rough, rough, rough when I bought it. Bought it raw, took a chance and I paid waayyy too much, but this is the only one I've ever seen in 20 years of collecting (I've heard of a few, but never actually laid eyes on one.). I've been looking the entire time!! Consistently listed as one of the top ten rarest 35 Cent Variants with an estimate of 15-30 still in existence!(I believe there are fewer.) This book has been pressed and cleaned. 3rd highest grade behind one 8.5 (Highest graded) and one 8.0. Only 6 on the census. I am very, very happy to have this book in my collection! Check it out!:applause::cloud9:(thumbsu:luhv:<3:acclaim::golfclap:(worship):headbang::whee:

Always like seeing this book since I subbed the 8.5. Fond memory :)

    Congrats!

Ernie, there is a very nice former gentleman who I met a number of times at the Chicago Convention. He wears a flowered dress that I think Donna Reed might have liked in the 50's, it's not flattering and not in great shape. I had thought once or twice about offering to take him shopping, but I didn't really know him well enough.

Part of the problem is, if you don't grow up dressing as one gender, it might not be as simple as you think.  It's also (depending on where you live) not so comfortable for a guy to go into a woman's store and try on clothes. I learned this when I sold some of my high heels on eBay a zillion years ago and it seemed that a lot of men were "buying them for their wives"  and I finally asked one of them...that really was an eye opener for me.

I grew up in NYC, went to an art school with plenty of different types of people, but never really thought about WHERE they would get the clothes they wore (especially if they didn't happen to have a close female friend or relative who would shop with them).

If you are going to dress up, denim doesn't really cut it, so I get the idea and it's fine. Besides if we all liked the same stuff, it would be pretty boring watching every one wearing purple ever day;) As long as he's happy.

I've seen this same person probably 30 times at shows over the last 20 years. It's literally always the same dress. Not sure if there are multiples of the same dress or if it truly is just the same one over and over, but it has never changed. They've been by the booth a few times and seem to be a longtime and fairly knowledgeable collector. This person is only notable in my opinion because it's been the same dress for decades.

Fun fact: Another person that I've seen at least that many times over the last 20-30 years at shows also wears the same clothes over and over. Neal Adams decided on blue collared shirt and slacks a long time ago and hasn't looked back. Again, I can't confirm if he has a closet full or if it's just the same well preserved shirt for many years.

Here are some books at the estate auction I am at today. These major comics start at 4 pm with a nice AF15! They have JIM83, ToS39, Spider-Man 1 and a bunch more. The Hulk 2 has some tears in the cover but I may try for it anyway. This place usually gets strong prices. I will try to get a picture of the AF15 upload and will come back and edit tonight with final prices if I remember to write them down. They have 2 Avengers 4s as well and one is pretty nice.

Where would you have graded the better X-men 1? Looks like a 7.0+ in the pic, but it's hard to tell.

Unfortunately, in the last two years, CGC switched to a much cheaper boxing source, and the original heavy duty cardboard boxes are a thing of the past. The "new" boxes are flimsy and useless after a single shipment. This was clearly a cost-cutting measure.

I have voiced my complaints about that to the powers-that-be, but it's been ignored thus far.

I've done the same. I got zero response. Even taking the book count down to 20 in the box and shoving a ton of bubble wrap on all sides still leads to slabs getting cracked etc every single time.
