  1. looks like Santa taking out the garbage to me. Tamping it down with his knee first.
  2. TOS39 vs Tec 1 Cap1 vs Tec 1 Tec 1 is clearly a very cool book, but doesnt beat a true first appearance for me.
  3. Hold on! That's really crazy because that means that Kirby drew this BEFORE Captain America appeared in Avengers #4!! Avengers #4 came out in 3/64. And Strange Tales #114 came out in 11/63. Therefore, this may very well be the first published image of Cap done by Kirby in the 60s. That's really incredible! Holy Cow. Good eye! (thumbs u Folks are rushing out to find a copy of Aurora 4 as we speak. even harder are the little known variant copies of AU OR like this beauty!
  4. well, I just told it as I see it, But, I used to not think much of 83 either believing in the Overstreet 81 'official' tag. But times change, so 82 might get the flag someday. What order of significance to YOU rate 81m 82 and 83? And feel free to include GIC 68 and any other prototypes if you choose to do so too!
  5. heres a brief rundown, but Im not the authority by any means #81 long considered 1st appearance, getting softer of late. #83 Now the up and coming favorite for 1st REAL appearance of the real Sgt Rock. GIC#68 increasngly considered the MOST important tryout Rock #82 a filler issue with no real support as anything in particular, except the chap who just paid 6K for the HGC copy! hows that?
  6. too wacky for words. the keys dont even sell for that much.
  7. Mick, I've always loved those three books.... for sure GIC #83 and OFF #71 are psychic cousins. Sweet copies, as always! Shep I have always loved this cover. Mostly its the eyes - - wide open, scared to death. And love the two soldiers - -and the dog! But it wasnt til just now that I see Pooch is looking angry and cartoony... look at his eyebrow. I think Id prefer a scared dog, or a quiet worried dog to what looks like a cartoony "lemme at em!" pup.
  8. I see what your saying, and I definitely agree on Supes 14 and 24, but if Action #36 (robot cover) can get the "classic" designation, I don't see why a few well known war covers can't. I don't think it "denotes a familiarity" as much as some other covers, maybe people just really like robots. right. Its the robot that earned the classic designation. Robot are a collecting genre of their own, and that Superman cover was a pretty early robot appearance in americana. I think thats why it was earmarked as "special" many years ago.
  9. cause "classic" denotes a familiarity. That doesnt necessarily mean just a "great" cover if the image isnt well known or transcends the genre of signify the character. Here Superman is hitting an airplane with a charactered Jap pilot. (not 'classic-worthy" to me). Compare this to the Classic Superman 14 or 24 with teh American flag. Those are Classics. I think this is just a dammed good cover with a lot of power to it.
  10. sweet Supies! So YOU were the guy winning all the Heritage lots that time. I was jealous. Did you pick up a lot more of them? You never see these issues in HG.
  11. Im not knocking it, but does it have some work done? So many have had work done, and this is a smoking looking copy!
  12. Here are some covers I posted last year. Ghost Stories V1#1(July 1926) you think those streaks were accidental.... that kinda worked so they left them there? Looks like somebody dropped the canvas!
  13. hey, now that everything is settled about the stat cover thing, can I throw some gasoline on the fire? $7K for a stat? wow! If its for presentation at home, why not just get a good scan of the cover and frame it? I get it that the stat was made by Marvel way back when, and some bullpen guys rubbed rubber cement on the back of the pieces... and wrote notes in the margin. But to call it OA is a looong stretch IMO. Seems to me its all about price vs quality, and for 7K one could buy a lot more original artwork. What this is is is just a "mechanical."... with sentimental added value.
  14. great books! but I feel like Im underwater here! So blurrry..
  15. Double What? Ill take the Bat, but for a lot less!
  16. Superman looks so goofy on this cover... like an overgrown gloating oaf, doesnt he?
  17. Im loving that same big boulder that appears on so many Superman family covers!
  18. I think GPA is great for those books that trade often enough in all grades that one can discern a real-time pattern. Unfortunately that just isnt true for the scarcer HG important books. To me its like the census: a relatively easy to access source of collected data that I am not collecting for myself with any regularity, urgency or organized planning. Why NOT use it, coupled with a sturdy sense of proportion-- factoring in what it DOES NOT tell us. Why NOT pay for the data? If you see 100 sales charted in one grade?? How can that NOT be useful in going out to buy a copy? Its a great idea suited for out fast changing times in the hobby. Just wish it were totally complete, by having EV RY SINGLE transaction listed.
  19. it probably would have been clearer with a blue sky... the black confuses the image.
  20. Im missing the part that explains why, after all these years, GPA suddenly feels brave and bold enough to go ahead and mine CL auction data.... Is there some indication that Josh has approved this change in plans? Or has GPA just decided "what the fack why not?"
  21. I have the same question in regards to Comclinks AUCTIONS compared to regular listsing. Why will GPA go ahead with auction listings w/o permission--- but not the rest? In other words, whats the holdup: permission/cooperation or the idea that some small % of sales pending arent completed/verified. ?
