  1. If I had some time I'd research the prices for low/mid-grade copies of some books I've seen this happen on to see how significant the bumps really are. It feels like things have gone crazy on some books in that way- low grade and even restored books are aggressively bid up. No time for research right now, unfortunately.
  2. It's labeled the "Second City" collection. If this were Verzyl's collection we'd have a lot more to talk about beyond a boring old, rusty-stapled Action #1.
  3. I haven't heard the name in public or in private correspondence.
  4. Really? Impatiently chasing hot books without concern for quality isn't your style?
  5. It doesn't potentially have rusted staples. It has rusted staples.
  6. Not that I know of. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. How do people structure it?
  7. Thanks. Looking at that book it had a high dealer floor. Assuming 10538 was a dealer, the floor on that book (treating metro as a proxy and not a "dealer" in this sense) was 2,700,000. There were several other $1,000,000+ bidders that were dealers or dealer/collectors (25432, 5127 and all of the 4 figure feedback types) If we see anything like that bidding pattern on this book, the purchase price is a given.
  8. I've seen it happen with really competitive books at all price points. When people are piling into a book, at every price point there's a group of people who can go no higher than that price point who are going to push the book to the maximum of their budget. The problem with that is people from higher up the price point ladder can swoop down and pick up a copy lower than their target range, just to own one. Get two people like that and a $2,000 VG copy can suddenly turn into a $3-4000 book because two whales looking for a NM copy decided not to wait. Competition for high grade copies can still be strong, but it might not be frenzied. I am actively trying to buy a book where I've seen this sort of pattern play out in crazy ways (and I'll talk about it once I win one of them )
  9. That's why I put "disappointing" in quotes, my own words are tough for me to buy into, too The logical numbers that I see for it ($2-3 million) are warring with the uncertainty around who the pool of bidders is for this book are going to be. Who is in play for this book competitively? Will there be dealers or collectors who aren't into it competitively there ready to serve as a floor for this book at something like the 1.5 million purchase price? My guess is there will be and there will be healthy floor on the book. I think it's makes the purchase price pretty easily. How far beyond that is anyone's guess. How many big dollar bidders were there for the eBay Action #1? Did anyone save the bid history?
  10. It's going to be a really interesting auction. When I last went through the exercise, I valued this at 2.5 million. Thinking about it now I think the logical range is $2,000,000 to $3,000,000 with anything less than 2 being a "disappointing" result. The logical range only holds up if there's a bidding pool with the $$ to back it up, however, so we'll have to just wait and see.
  11. The gradig type notes on the label are long gone. More than 10 years gone
  12. Rob goes on the internet and talks about Action #1 values. Rob wakes up on March 23rd. Rob looks at Scoop.Rob will be talking more about Action #1 values today!
  13. To be fair (to me) I didn't predict anything. I speculated about the possibility that both books would do it (which would be novel.) If my speculating about something ("In my mind there's a chance") turns into me making predictions then I'm about to become a lot more boring.
  14. I've been having this same conversation for a long time. There are threads here where talk about the day when all unrestored Action #1s would be $100k books. then it was "when will ALL copies be $100k books." We're at the point now where I just wrote: Soon, All Blue Label Batman #1s Will Be $100,000 Books. That doesn't mean it isn't fun to talk about where we are today.
  15. I'm slightly disappointed. The result is in line with the Hertiage book. The conserved, restored books are a different (albeit resoundingly positive) story. I agree that those results are phenomenal. Here's what I wrote
  16. And, for what it's worth, I was slightly disappointed with the Action #1 sale. I feel like that was flat against the Heritage sale from 2016
  17. I'm trying to clear up some space and, in the process, re-focus my collecting goals, so I'm going to run a few cool sales over the next few weeks. I'm going to be selling probably 100-150 CGC books. Some I'll list here on the boards first. Others, like these lots, will go on eBay. Bid early and bid often. Thanks!
