I thought the partnership with CGC was part of the point?  It's an "invisible" comic so the grade it gets is irrelevant...They assign the grades and that's that.   Also, they've never made that fact secret, right?

Or is the idea that if a publisher can pay for these gimmick grades/books, what else can they pay for?

Maybe I'm missing some key piece of information

It's much ado about nothing, IMO.

Completely understand.  It is hard to watch a passion most of us here have / had (comics)  get pizzed on by a Bad Idea and a company that we just wish wasn't becoming a shell of its former self.  :sorry:

My irritation is more towards the person who actually bought it, and for that much. Ha ha.

I'm not sure your post matches up with logic and reason. Okay, I actually am sure... that it doesn't. Also, the facts I stated are facts, not opinions.

When signed items sell for more than their unsigned counterparts (which is not always the case), it's not because there is more demand for signed items. Even if signed items always sold for more, now and in the future, that wouldn't mean anything, in and of itself, to investors.

If they are facts, prove them. All I see is someone who is projecting their own bias onto the marketplace.

Yes, Batman: The Dark Knight is an iconic series that has some awareness outside of comic collectors. Yes, the first issue of Batman: The Dark Knight has a classic cover and is the overly-emphasized first issue. Yes, there is demand (though hardly as universal as you're claiming) for Batman: The Dark Knight and that's unlikely to change in the near future. What I'm missing here is what any of that has to do with copies being turned into a niche item by signatures. I'm also definitely missing how $1800 USD is a steal or an investment.

I find it harder to believe that you think that I own stuff like that. Most people have little to no interest in buying items with signatures, especially at premium prices.

I'm not sure your opinion matches up with the marketplace. Signed stuff on eBay seems to go for more than unsigned stuff.

The ashcan is smaller. It was posted by @Crops068 up thread but the image link isn't working anymore.

Ah, thanks. I hadn't seen this particular one in person. I just know many of the ashcans I have are the same size as a standard comic.

Is this the ashcan? I ask, because I’m used to the ones that are smaller in size that I have in my collection; e.g., Image’s Codename: Stryke Force & Wild C.A.T.S.

Yeah, that's the one. I thought the dimensions for ashcans were smaller myself, as I've had a few like you mentioned, but many are the size of regular comics these days. I have several from Scout that are the same size as regular comics, only fewer pages.

Now I’m confused.   I thought they were asking about the book not being centered within the inner well :insane:

Yeah, I believe they were. My comment wasn't the clearest. Ha ha. I just meant I'd be bothered far more by a miscut comic than one that is misaligned in the well. A couple taps WOULD probably take care of that.

And how much does this effect value or sell-ability in your opinion?

A lot of mine are slightly misaligned. I suspect pressing exacerbates that (all of mine are pressed), but unless it's very noticeable, I don't think it affects value much. Miscuts bother me a lot more. If I'm buying a slab, I tend to look for one where the art is aligned correctly, not necessarily the comic itself.

I really like Jeff Lemire but there were a few releases recently that were simply OK.  I absolutely love Black Hammer and the expanded universe that was built around it.  I also loved Sweet Tooth, so much so that when I watched the Netflix show, I lost interest after a few episodes.  The comic felt dark and gritty.  The show looked as though it had been brightened up for the purpose of appealing to a wider viewing audience.  Most recently I read Primordial which I didn't think was that great.  Mazebook tugged at the heartstrings if you have ever experienced significant loss.

Primordial was pretty anticlimactic at the end. I loved Mazebook, and Gideon Falls is one of my favorite series. I haven't finished the Sweet Tooth series on Netflix either, but it was decent enough IMO that I'll go back sometime and finish watching it.
