He signed his name to loads of art he never created. Right ?

Unfortunately, yes. There's a great new book out called THE BATCAVE COMPANION that tells the story of the "New Look" Batman, as well as the Neal Adams era. Loads of stuff about Kane in the book that isn't very complimentary. I'm hoping that the authors of this book do one on the Golden Age, and fully explore the story of Kane and his "ghosts".

really some excellent contributions lately.

I would love to find more comic book burning pictures.

That pic of Dr. Wertham reading that pre-code is funny.

Even a crisp clear newsstand picture , where you can read the titles and see some cover graphics, that don't depict comics (mainly pre-1936 or so) fascinate me. .

i find it ironic that the adults who found that comics have objectionable content would condone a violent act like book burning. some book burnings were cancelled because i think the event would get out of control. you know, kids will be kids. many of the burnings were staged events and many kids were manipulated and ambivalent about objectionable comic book content. here's a book burning photo & article from the southeast missourian, cape girardeau missouri 2/25/49.

here's the uncropped photo of frederic wertham

In the April issue of Time magazine, a story appeared about Detroit Police Commissioner Harry S. Toy, who examined all the comic books available in his community, and then stated they were; "Loaded with communist teachings, sex, and racial discrimination." In May of 1948 he also presented his views in an article for the Saturday Review of Literature.

wouldn't you like that stack of books on his desk that were to be throw out?

thanks, i'll take that no-prize

I have a copy of one of the issues on his desk -- it looks like Adventure Comics 128 behind the pen...

so...does it contain any communist teachings, sex, and racial discrimination?

Is that a protective plastic bag on his desk...? hm

Ol' Freddy looks a little shocked by the Shock Illustrated he's reading.

And kudos to everyone who has posted photos in this thread. They're wonderful.

ajaxfarrel- have you seen these?

I've seen some of the newsstand pics you've posted. I love them all.

One place to search is online at college University photo archives.

Like, for example, search for the University of Michigan photo archives...or any other similar large school.

I usually search (newsstand, news stand, magazine, comicbook, comic book, newspaper)

I've had a lot of luck in the past doing so, but I don't have much free time lately.

Keep up the good work.
