One of my favorite Whitmans is Jungle #159, which has not yet been posted in this thread. Does anyone have one to post? Adamstrange perhaps?

Unbelievable colors on this copy. Did this come out of a basement in Colorado?

No. But this one did.

The Church is superb but the first copy I posted is phenomenal.

That's it! What a book; I never knew you had two!! :applause:(worship)

I never understood why the art above by Whitman was offensive to Wertham

but he made no comments about some other splashes such as this Jungle orgy.

Eventually Wertham got mentioned as a fantasy villian and

got a deserved "chewing out" by the jungle beasts (with Matt Baker's help).

and a little extra help from bb

It's the lower left panel that got Wertham all worked up, wasn't it? Something about the odd shading...

Wow, that Tabu splash is pretty provocative for a kids comic. Great interiors, BB!

It seems like an absurd critisism to me. Scans are from GAC by the way. Jungle issue 98 is the source of both scans. Third scan is from Jungle 104.

One of my top 5 Planet covers. I picked up a beautiful copy in a trade deal and listed it on the boards as a 7.5 due to a stacking wave.....looked 8.5 / 9.0 in the mylar. I changed my mind and decided to pull it but someone had already posted the I'll Take It guy......it sold VERY fast. I should have kept it....it eventually came back a CGC 8.5 Blue. GOD BLESS...

I've been there, Jimbo. The colors and gloss on this copy are much better than my scan shows. But I would love to find a really high grade copy. They just don't come up that often. I got lucky on this one, found it right after it was listed for a very reasonable price. At the time, it seemed like a stretch but now it looks like a bargain. (thumbs u

He was a prude! Case closed. He was easily as much focused on sex in comics as on their violence.
