Too Many Forum Scams for Me!

355 posts in this topic

More often, you'll get guys who either just can't grade, who can't stand the thought of leaving a dime on the table, who aren't prepared to sell one book much less twenty, who are straight-up dumb f***s or who demonstrate two or more of the above qualities.

Wow, that box-of-comics-scam was an interesting read. I don't get over to the sales or probation area much. Anyone want to fill me in (or provide a link) about AlleyBat's $4000 scam??

+1 what ever happened in the end there?

Exactly, and it's this recent "good sellers gone bad" phenomenon that's really disheartening, and remember folks, not every single scam is highlighted in the forum.

JC, out of the 4 people in the past few weeks that have been discussed in the probation thread, all 4 are repeat offenders. It's not like pillars of the sales community are taking people's money.

So now, what do you have?

(Just for the record for those wondering, JC does buy on the boards. I've sold to him before.)

You have comics????? I thought you were just here for the sig line porn.

meh

The worstest scam is someone posting multiple times they've had enough and that they are leaving and never do. :baiting:

^^

Is there a "I'm leaving and never coming back" probation list? How many days does JC have to stay away for before we remove him from the list?

(tsk)

A solution???? I think before anyone is allowed to sell on the boards, they should have to reach a post count threshold of at least 100 or maybe 500 posts. That would stop the newbies from getting on here and screwing things up. Nothing you can really do about all of it though. If someone wants to cheat people, you can't really stop them.

A solution for the buying end. Don't buy something that seems too good to be true, because it is probably not. I have very little sympathy for anyone who buys something from a seller who has a questionable past, and is offering something which may or may not be good.

Dale the only problem with your suggestion is some of us would never reach the threshold to be able to buy/sell. I have had many great deals with other board members. I just don't post a lot.

John B.

I agree with John, whom I dealt with many many times, and is a stand up guy. When I do a sales thread, I often get people asking me for references, I refer them to the Kudos thread and to those that know me, and my ebay name of 1700+ 100% positives. The other problem with this Dale is that some boardies accumulate 500 posts in two days. But I think your on the right track, something needs to be done, perhaps more caution to those buyers.

I guess I'm the only one left that doesnt' like the new changes to the sales forums. I am sorry to see anyone on the boards getting scammed. I've dealt with hundreds of boardies, both buying and selling, and go into each transaction with an open mind and heart, and I'll have to second guess that from now on from the sounds of all these problems on the boards lately.

I do agree with Michael though (McShmidt), Joe/Vince get off the soap box. I've never pm'd you, nor chatted in two years of being on the boards, and for the most part I agree with most of what you say, but seriously. It's total ignorance to think NOTHING comes of any of the new stories being created today. Sure there is a lot of awful stuff, but there are some great new writers and artists working today. You're always talking about "aging fanboys", and yet you come across as the biggest one on these boards.

Pick up the very first issue of Y the Last Man, and see if you dont' laugh your a.ss off, or anything Gaiman touches. But to go to the extent of being proud you dont' read anything new anymore only goes to show you how much you miss out on.

Good point.

No new scammers, just some people with priors who just happen to show up and do their dirty deeds within a few weeks of each other.
