Sharp books, Thomas.  FF123 was the first FF that I bought off the rack beginning my 50 year journey as a comic collector.

April, 1972 was a good month for Marvels.  By this time, the cover artists were finding the picture frame space too confining, and routinely breaking the action out beyond it.  From my raw picture frame collection:

June 1972 was another great month of cover dates for Marvel comics readers.  First appearances of Luke Cage, Namorita, and the second of Man-Thing (first in color).  Great anniversary issues of Avengers, featuring every hero ever in the team, and Thor, with the Ragnarok story of the death and rebirth of the entire universe.  An extended origin story for Ironman, and guest appearances by Galactus, the Silver Surfer, the Black Widow, and Dr. Strange.  Reprinting of Fantastic Four #48.  From a raw picture frame collection:

I think the crappy Morbius reviews and box office let me get it at a very reasonable price.

July 1972 publication dates.  By this time, the dozen or so non-reprint titles that began the picture frame era had swelled to 18 a month and would grow even further in the coming months.

Part one from the collection.  By this time, I was buying a handful of Marvels off the rack every month (although if memory serves me none of these are my original copy).  Especially memorable among these are the Harlan Ellison plotted one shot tale in Avengers, the stunning Barry Smith interior art in Conan matched by Rascally Roy's great word-smithing, and the return of a monster rather than a cosmic story to the FF.

July 1972, part two.  Especially memorable among these was the return of Dr. Strange to a regular Bronze Age title, with the cool Barry Smith take on the character, and the reprint of FF49 with its taste of the Lee and Kirby Silver Age magic undiscovered by me at this point.

At 215 pages I would be shocked if any of these haven't already been shown,but I love the early Marvel 20 centers.

That's a pretty shocking entry into this thread. Those are some sweet copies of some really tough books to find in high grade.

Here are picture frames with the March 1972 publication date from my collection.  Marvel was just starting to expand the number of titles a month around this time.  The standout books include the first appearance of The Beast in fuzzy form and solo story, the wrap-up of the epic Kree-Skrull war in Avengers, and the first appearance of Elric,
