Anybody bidding in the January Comiclink auctions?

231 posts in this topic

ComicLink does one thing that drives me crazy -- they add "Highest CGC Graded!" to books that only tie for highest.

For example, the Feb auction has this noted for a Rangers 27 in 8.5. But there are FOUR at that level, all tied for highest.

Does this bother anyone else? Is this a mountain out of a mole hill?

--------------------------

You might remember me from such films as "The Boatjacking of

Supership 79" and "Hydro, the Man With the Hydraulic Arms."

I see some board members doing the same thing in the marketplace. And yes, it's annoying. With CL, there's no option when listing a book to say that it shares the top spot. You can only choose between "highest graded", "2nd highest graded", etc...

I don't think CL says "highest graded" or "2nd highest CGC graded". They will say "highest CGC grade" or "2nd highest CGC grade" or something like that, which is technically correct.

Of course, as everyone has pointed out, the book could have the highest CGC grade but be tied with many others for that grade. To their credit, in the auction description CL will often say that it's 1 of ___, and in case of 2nd or 3rd highest grade that there are ___ number of books higher. Not quite as detailed or consistent as Heritage's descriptions on this issue, but I think they generally try to ensure that the description is not misleading (or at least a relatively white shade of gray).

That's not right, Tim. CL says "Highest CGC Graded", "2nd Highest CGC Graded", etc...

I stand corrected.

Get Zaid to sue them for misrepresentation! :sumo:

Nice....

Nothing so far for me...prices much firmer then I expected them to be. Not even ending up as the underbidder on a lot of the stuff. Maybe the market has turned around.... (shrug)

Or maybe not. I've won 3 books with tracking bids! :frustrated:

Err that 9.4 sold for more than the 9.6 I won of the same title/issue, only difference is the 9.6 has ow/w, that one has white. Still, pretty dumb. (shrug)

One of the books I was tracking:

Avengers #13 9.4

Last GPA-recorded sale was Dec 2007 for $785.

Sold tonight for $3211.

Granted, tonight's book has white pages, a straight wrap, and crispy clean edges and corners...

Holy freaking fire sale!

AF15 sold for a bargain by today's standards.

ASM 101 9.6 for 600 below 2009 average.

ASM 121 9.8 and 122 9.8 bargain prices

ASM 129 9.8 lowest on record at GPA (by a lot!)

In fact all the ASM's were fetching extremely reasonable prices!

I picked up a little gem myself.

People must be saving up for the bigger February auction???

Yup. I bought the low-grade 2 (3.5) for well under GPA.

I bid on nearly 30 books closing tonight, all strong bids at or near Last GPA.

I only won 2. It seemed to me like many ASM's were strong like ASM 112 for 500.00 with last GPA only 180.00 . I thought I saw strong prices for DC.

I won the ASM #14- 7.5 OW tonight for less than $900. A 7.0 closed on FeeBay tonight with CR/OW for $1100. Last GPA sale was $1225 for a 7.5. No complaints here. I won a Green Lantern #76- 7.5 White pages a few days ago for well below GPA sales also. Bargains out there but it does take a lot of time and patience to get one. (thumbs u

ASM 129 CGC 9.8 got hammered for PQ.

If someone is going to spent serious money on a 9.8 then I am assuming they would hold off for better PQ.

I would. ;)

The ASM 101 CGC 9.6 again got hammered for mis-wrap as I paid $600.00 more for my copy and it is perfectly centered.

I did sell my ASM 112 CGC 9.8 for a nice price.

I won a couple ASM's and one of them being the ASM 106 CGC 9.6 "old Label," I have been looking for that one for a while.

The ASM 129 had OW pages, undesirable on this book.

Well, if past C-Link auctions are any indication, things tend to firm up after the first night (which is always a Tuesday). If that's the case, this might be a bleak auction for me, as I won only five rather ordinary Silver and Bronze books last night, most of which where won at my max bid.

Prices looked pretty solid to me....all things considered.
