Avengers #1 or #4

86 posts in this topic

Simple question, Avengers #1 has a lot of Marvel characters from other ish's and . Whereas, Avengers #4 has the premiere issue of Caps from the Golden Age! Which issue do you promote more? I seem to remember that #4 was about to outprice #1 back in the early 90's. If there was any other book to do that, IMO this would be the one!

I'd say #1 since its actually the appearence of the team as opposed to the return of cap.

Anybody find it weird that the cap movie is called the First Avenger? (shrug)

Isn't he more like the 6th Avenger?

well.... he predates the others....

Yeah, but Hulk, Iron Man, Wasp, Ant Man, and Thor were Avengers before Cap was. You don't call Roger Moore the first James Bond, even though he is older than Sean Connery.

Technically speaking - Thor predates them all chronologically.

Oh, and Avengers #1 definitely. Great story there!

Dollar value aside, Avengers #1 has never really grabbed me like I did for Avengers #4.

To me Avengers #4 is just a terrific book!

If you are taking dollar value into account that is a different story.

I think #4 is a cooler book but from an investment standpoint a #1 is usually better.

I was actually alive and collecting as a kid when these issues came out. I remember being excited about the Avengers #1. Other #1's that came out about the same time like Daredevil and X-Men(I think I passed on this one) were no big deal. I have no recollection of Avengers #4. I think I stopped collecting the title after Hulk left in #2, he gave the group some personality.

Timely Comics: If you consider the word "Avenger" generically, then Cap was the first avenger in WW II. To oversimplify -- the Human Torch wasn't human and the Sub-Mariner was a villain.
