Well I just called my lcs to see if he could still order in bring the thunder #1 in for me , but mainly just cause I thought it looks interesting & want to try it out not for profit

The point is that these books have been ordered a while ago. The print run is done. Nothing in this thread will increase the # out there. Someone buying an extra copy due to this (or similar threads) simply means that someone else won't have a copy. This isn't speculating based on "what can your shop order this week for 4 weeks from now" or however that works.

 

I made about an extra $50 or so picking up copies of Skullkickers based on this thread and might have made an extra $250-500 or so had I been the first one at my main shop and grabbed them.

 

I lost about $200-300 as far as I can tell by NOT picking up MG 1 as I remember thumbing through it based on some pre-hype here and there were still a bunch of copies left (I must have come to the shop early)

 

I've lost $10-$15 buying some books hinted at here that are going nowhere fast, but there's always the reading value (though that Gorilla Grod Action Comic certainly doesn't have $3.99 worth of reading value...) Ratchet & Clank was actually a bit of a surprise bust because very few were ordered by anyone but Larry, but I guess nobody else was interested in it.

 

As for these picks, do Dynamite non-variants ever have a good aftermarket? The print-run can be 2,000, but if nobody cares, then nobody cares.

With overprints at an all time low, 50% more than usual sales causes sellouts.

I like sellouts on comics I speculate on.

 

27 #1 from image ships THIS week. There was a delivery problem from the printer according to Image. it was heavily allocated by my Diamond warehouse ( Plattsburg, NY ). I have e-mails into Image & Diamond to find out if the balance of product is EVER coming. If this is nationwide allocation..look out.

 

Update : I'm told, retailers out of the Memphis, & LA Warehouse's have reported it's allocated. & Rich Johnson is Working on a Bleeding Cool piece now.

The number I'm hearing is retailers are recieving 2/3 of shipment.

I'm fond of JJ as well. The great part is that you completely missed his point. When a "hot" book is named well in advance, most of its "hotness" disappears. You may have an uptick in demand, but it's caused by speculators, not readers. In turn, when those speculators dump their books, the buyers are not necessarily there. Or, more simply, supply outstrips demand.

 

This is the problem with this thread. You're unwilling to put any kind of metrics to your picks. You find successes in nearly all books because you buy them at a direct discount. Were you measuring the short term or long term back issue appeal of books, I think you would flounder even more. But no one knows, and you won't say, whether your picks are meant for cover price sales or backissue higher valuations.

 

Classic Larry. You can't take even the slightest bit of ribbing or disagreement. Real personality flaw if you ask me. The one consolation I take is that more and more people are swearing off your inane variants as a result of your posting here. Keep it up.

I don't want to get involved in the off-topic arguments here, but I will just add that I've seen Larry state on several occassions about being able to sell some of these picks at $4-$5 for a long time. So, when I see the majority of his picks, that's my assumption of his speculative plan.

I don't want to get involved in the off-topic arguments here, but I will just add that I've seen Larry state on several occassions about being able to sell some of these picks at $4-$5 for a long time. So, when I see the majority of his picks, that's my assumption of his speculative plan.

2. Bring The Thunder #1. Dynamite’s second lowest ordered book of all time is also the first issue of an interesting military superhero comic, starring a black lead, created and co-written by Alex Ross. With a new Kurt Busiek/Alex Ross book on the way this year. I cannot see this book not going up in value in the short term. If you can find a copy.

Copies on ebay seem to be around cover...plus shipping, of course, but then again, it's a day old. If people buy those 5 or 6 copies, what happens then?
