Show off your Uber High Grade UNDERGROUND COMIX !!!

Dupont... your arguments certainly do us proud, but...

:troll:

these arguments against u-comix did not hold water in 1973 & they certainly do not now

the whole alternative comics movement owes its existence to these books

:applause:

Two great points.

Very rapid evolution of alternative comics publishing... Big Apple Comix, Hot Stuf', Star Reach, Heavy Metal, etc

Oh, also remember that before co-creating TMNT, Kevin Eastman was technically an underground artist. A fairly major crossover there.

True. I don't remember Heavy Metal being as over-the-top as the aforementioned underground "comix", though. TMNT => :headbang:

They were to a point. Druuna was edited for Heavy Metal, but it still wasn't ever going to be published by Marvel or DC.

Exactly what arguments don't hold water? I'd bet you that several folks would prefer not to see some of these covers. In case anyone is confused, I'm not offended by anything in this thread. I just don't understand why anyone would covet these books, and I'm simply looking for an explanation. A Zap Comix #1 went for $21,510 last month, so there must be a large demand for underground comics. Still, I'd rather spend my money on superheroes.

Fair enough.

Americans still have such a hang up with sexuality.

Really? You want to see my balls?

No I do not.

You equate reading these comics with showing your balls to somebody?

That's weird.

What's the difference?

They are invited to not look.

Really? I didn't realize that I'd see pornography when I opened this thread. The board moderators here won't let me say "mess", but I can't open a thread without the possibility of seeing some poorly drawn character's nipples or, worse, vaginal teeth.

That being said, a lot of these comics just look ridiculous to me. If someone could point me to a place where I can read some of them, then perhaps I will change my mind.
That's fine but to some of us super hero comics look ridiculous. We still manage to not go into a SA thread and express the feeling though. Enjoy what you enjoy and let others do the same (shrug)

Fair enough. I don't see anything ridiculous about the battle between good and evil, which is the foundation for superhero comics in my mind. Seriously, though, where can I look through some of these underground comics? Perhaps I am not giving them enough respect.

doh! You're in San Fran and you're asking where you can get your hands on an Underground? It's bad enough that you're complaining about Undergrounds in an Underground thread but now we find out that you've never even cracked one open!! That's just ignorant...:makepoint:

I think that in some cases, you can judge a book by its cover. By the way, I'm not going to purchase any underground comics to read them, especially when I may not even like them. I'm looking for a website recommendation.

If you're a Christian or something and all of this generally offends you then please look away...and go away... :baiting:

And yet you continue to open this thread...

Like I said, I don't care. I'm not offended. How about everyone else, though?

I'm sure they don't need a moral crusader to speak for them. In fact, I think most of them are mature enough to just not look at things they don't like, instead of ask for free scans of such things repeatedly in the very same thread where they complain that such things exist hm

I was shocked at what a great story Omaha is. It's unfortunate that it's lumped in with furry porn comics because it featured sex, but some people simply can't tell the difference.

I was a big fan of those early stories. does anyone know if any of the original art is floating around?
