TOP 5 GRAILS - THAT YOU OWN

1,214 posts in this topic

I was bored so I thought I ask the question, including the grade. For me:

TOS #39, 5.0

FF# 4, 6.0

FF# 12, 7.5

Avengers #4, 6.5

SS#4 , 8.0

No super grades to get excited about but I love them just the same.

Well... ill do this for fun...

1. Hulk 181 raw 7.0-8.0

2. Star Wars #1 raw 8.0-9.6 (6 copies)

3. Star Wars #107 raw 8.0-9.0

-- i can't really guess the guess grades on these... hence the ranges...

As you can see, my collection isn't all that exciting... my entire collection fits into one long box and a half. And... I don't have any graded comics as of yet.

It's hard to make a list, but I'll have to go with books that I was most excited about acquiring at the time. All of these are raw grades:

1. Mask Comics #1 in 4.5

2. Our Love Story #5 in 9.0-9.2 (I bought this book back in 1992 and looked EVERYWHERE for it, and was lucky to find a high grade one. Features a great Steranko story)

3. Silver Surfer #4 in 8.0

4. Suspense Comics #8 in 2.0

5. Master Comics #27 7.5-8.0

I have a book on the way that is going to make it on this list....

Freak Brothers #1 CGC 9.0(HRG-1st print)

and have to throw in at least one of my Marvels,

Fantastic Four #1 CGC 6.5(bought this one in 1965 from ad in RBCC)

These would not be considered "major key's" by most people's definition, but these particular issues were certainly grails for me when I was growing up. I get real pleasure from owning these books in nice condition now. cloud9.gif

(Apologies to all those who have seen these before ! sleeping.gif)

1.) Journey Into Mystery #118 CGC 9.4.

2.) Journey Into Mystery #112 CGC 9.4.

3.) Journey Into Mystery #100 CGC 9.4.

4.) Journey Into Mystery #93 CGC 9.4.

5.) Journey Into Mystery #114 CGC 9.4.

D.D. #158 and X-Men #108 (along with #101 and GS #1) were grails for me also because they were so high in guide that they seemed unattainable when i was a kid. I mean $25 was a HELL of a lot of money back in 1980 when I was 9 years old !

I have a nice #108 that I submitted myself (9.6 W, great QP), but I would like to own the others in 9.6 W as well when I get round to it. To be honest, Hulk #181 did not even register on my radar back then so it doesn't quite hold the same mystique for me now. confused-smiley-013.gif
