The Heritage / Pedigree Schmell Collection Auction has ended...

I looked at most of the Schmeel high res scans and i thought that most were overgraded by .2-.4 pts. maybe just me? anyone else feel the same way?

I do. Which makes me wonder why anyone would be paying the anticipated "insane" prices.

(shrug)

Heritage scans are certainly large enough to notice the more optimistically graded books.

i haven't seen a heritage scanned 9.4 that looks like a 9.4 in about two years.

i was just checking out FF 43 again and it is now way a 9.6 with all the creasing along the top cover...9.4 at best...maybe a 9.2.

I agree with the comments above mine...lot's of hype for what it being offered.

Fantastic Four 1 9.2 White Mountain :headbang:

I remember seriously considering this book back in 2001 when it didn't sell in a Greg Manning auction and got listed by them on E-Bay for $35K...I decided against it because I hate cover writing and date stamps. Clearly, I'm not much of an investment whiz. I think Bob Storms was the next owner after Manning sold it.

If all scans were the same size as yours when selling they'd all look like 9.8's

What's really amazing is the depth of the SA keys in the auction, beyond just Doug's books. There must be 5 or 6 copies each of X-Men 1 and TOS 39.

The way the books are presented online is bizarre though. First there are most of Doug's high grade books, then some apparently random lower grade SA books, then later on more copies of lower grade SA books, and again another batch of SA books. I think Heritage would've been much better off presenting Doug's books together, and then presenting the other SA Marvels in sequence, so all of copies of any particular issue are all presented together (e.g., all of the X-Men 1s), so that bidders looking for something alternatives to Doug's expensive books will easily see the full panoply of any particular issue all in one place. Just my 2c

+1,000,000! :frustrated:

I dont know why the hell they have them set up the way they do, makes no sense to me! i cant even find a couple of Dougs books i want to bid on even though i know they are in there somewhere ???

You can now put "Schmell" into the search function and it will take you to Doug's collection. It just took awhile to get everything working.

With 3 special collections in this auction, the Silver Age books are in a few different places. Doug's will auction 1st, then the SA in the HA LIVE section and, finally, the "non-floor" SA books, but anyone who wants to look at every copy of every book (and see all X-Men #1s at once, etc.) can just pick Silver Age in the left hand column and then in the sort dropdown do “Sort by Item title A to Z.”

Happy bidding! (thumbs u

Really? I just took the trouble to do a search for these titles:

Adventures of the Fly

Adventures of the Jaguar

Drag Cartoons

Fox & the Crow

Mystery in Space

Tales of the Unexpected

Flash

Green Lantern

Spooky

Wendy

Little Dot

Hot Stuff

How many comics do you think I found from my Want List?

Is anybody here gonna bid on any of the books because those premuims are what usually stops me.

I'm going to attempt to go after some of his DDs.

That #7 (yes I know, a very pancaked 9.4) might have to be on my radar.

I just left Dougs house picking up a few books since i was passing by to save on shipping and talked to him about the auctions. I'd be glued to the computer watching it every dang second if it was me. These next 20 days are gonna drive me freaking crazy just watching them to see what happens with the dozen or so i want. I cant even imagine owning them and watching what they are going to go for!!! :o

Jason as always (surprising on these Boards) I think the same thing. My Wife and kids would have to take my phone and laptop away from me cause a bomb could go off and I wouldn't even flinch, let alone hear it.

Scrolling through his collection right now on Heritage is like fricken comic porn.

There are two books I reaaaaaaaally want. Plan to bid very strong but I'm not sure I want to go too crazy. Too much time before the end of the auction for me to get all wound up right now.

Same here. I have five that i really, REALLY want and i think will be in a price range that i can reasonably win them(theres about 100 others NOT in that reasonable price range i REALLY want!!! ).

It's very, VERY hard not to be watching them 20 times a day but i'm doing my damndest not to. No point whatsoever to be putting in anything more than a tracking bid right now. Not even really any point in putting in more than a tracking until the live auction starts imo (shrug)

2 of the ones i want are ones that i thought 100% i would win when they were up for auction in the last year with completely over the top bids. Both of them i was SHOCKED that someone actually outbid me on them and couldn't for the life of me figure who it could be. I should have known it was freaking Doug blowing me out of the water!!! doh!
