vaillant
In 1991, X-Men #1 sold 8.2 million copies, and continued to sell over 1,000,000 copies a month for the rest of that year. Really? I think I throw away my copy after reading it… or maybe I did not even purchased it. This speaks lengths on how Marvel ruined itself for a short-term gain… The movies are obviously another product. I don’t care at all about them, but they are aimed to a generic public, and I wonder who will remember them.
divad
Could we get back on topic? (Instead of providing example after example of why and how the market is changing). Any books heating up?
joe_collector
I personally think that I'll live to see the day that "First Cover Appearance" is broken out, especially those books (Like ASM 50 - Kingpin) where the appearance is a glorified cameo of 1-2 pages at best. I know my friends and I quote lines all the time from movies that made an impact on us: Godfather, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Ghostbusters...the list is pretty long. The superhero movies I've seen in the 2000's...X-Men 1 and 2, Spiderman 3, Iron Man 3...all very forgettable. No substance at all. I guess we'll see in 30 years. Give them time they have gotten better. Its taken a very long time for studios to produce a comic movie to the level of our imagination. I never thought I would see the day where I would see my comic book heroes on the movie screen ever let alone done very well. The last few movies have been very good although tough to beat the 80s. As it should be, too imho. Look at The Abomination fergawdsakes - his first cover appearance on TTA 91 (battling the Hulk) is awesome! Dick Pontoon
Well, this one looks interesting. Killdozer (Worlds Unknown 6) currently at $125 on HA. http://comics.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=121409&lotNo=13532 Is Killdozer the newest member of Guardians of the Galaxy? You didn't hear about the GOTG/Killdozer alien race tie-in? I got my copy before the rush! Not a 9.8, but it presents well enough and cost about $115 less than the Heritage copy. After Thor Annual #6 they went back in time and appeared - sometimes in a large role and sometimes in a cameo role - in Avengers #167, 168 and 170-177. If they were in 178 it was a cameo in a frame story, because that issue, like 179 and 180, was a fill-in. The GotG appeared again in #181 when they returned to their own time. MTU #86 takes place during the Korvac Saga while they are on present day Earth.
joe_collector
No way MTU 86 was in 1977. You might want to check the exact date. And on the subject of the GoG, MTIO 5 is a very underrated issue, as it's really the first appearance of the team, members, costumes, and names as were known throughout the BA and CA. ion comics
It baffles me why Avengers 181 is hotter than Marvel Premiere 47. Scott Lang appears in only two (very uninteresting) panels in issue 181. But the masses have spoken. Meck
cbaileypacker
With the movie being a completely different team (2008) and concept from the original, why would any of the original GOTG see any price increase?

fastballspecial
Personally I think the whole Korvac saga is under valued. I expect in a year or two from now it will be much more in demand. That and other then the Nefaria Saga is probably the best Avengers arc I have ever read.
