I got a wheat penny in change from buying a breakfast burrito that I ended up selling on eBay for about $15 (I sold the penny, not the burrito, this is a terrible sentence).

lol

I wonder how much that burrito would go for today if you had kept it in mint condition.

:gossip: Some people have gobs of money . . .

And they may or may not when it comes time to sell. But if you think paying $800 for that wolverine book is smart, then by all means. lol

No one said it was smart, but money takes a back seat to some people. They're not thinking of ever needing to sell - why would they do that? When you have gobs, you have gobs. You need to broaden your perspective a tad.

A copy of the same book was sold last month for under 60.00 shipped HERE (shrug)

I can see how someone will pay top dollars for a mediocre key like asm 301 with a tough cover, but seriously, that doesnt even make any sense..

That's the 1st print.

The big numbers are coming from the 2nd printings of that book.

800x is easy.

There are lots of pennies that sell for $8 graded.

That's 800x buying the original. lol

Who invited you to this challenge? :makepoint:

Alright Greg, fair enough. But want if we eliminate the low dollar sales, where $8 is a relatively insignificant amount of money. What about $100+?

Is a 1977 US quarter for $266 good enough?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231276840048

Assuming it's at least possible to get handed one of these in your change... that's over 1000x.

Maybe, but it's not like I'm going to be given a Wolvie #41 second print as a function of currency in my day-to-day life.

Right... you have to purposefully look for 800x opportunity in comics.

In coins, they can find you (if you are paying attention).

From that standpoint, coins are even more ridiculous than comics.

Well, I sold one of my OO Hulk 181s raw for $2,200, and as I was working at the drugstore at the time, I don't even think I paid cover price on it. What's the math on that one? :roflmao: I remember telling my old man about it - he nearly choked on his Velveeta sandwich. lol

I understand people with money a lot more than you think; my firm deals exclusively with HNW clients.

Three nights ago I was playing 1-2 no limit at the casino, I was up a few hundred dollars playing against a table that was not very good overall, when an Asian guy sat down beside me. This guy was beyond reckless; he would call three bets with junk hands, raise blind with air, and call down to the river only to muck his cards heads-up when on him to check (at least four times!). It was ridiculous. I don't know what his background was, but clearly his motive was to 'blow' money.

Yes there's people that money isn't an issue, but to say someone will never sell an item is a huge fallacy. Collecting habits change, and almost everyone will sell at some point - they have to. You're looking at the position from a seller, you have a clear bias to promote high grade sales to maximize your ebay auctions, I'm not.

thing is i feel like i have seen plenty of those gold second prints in dollar boxes too and have passed on them, although probably only if they had dings.

No, sometimes they just abandon it; ;) and sometimes they just die. :(

And as to the second point; you can't take it with you. lol

Because NO ONE respected 2nd & 3rd printings back in the day when these things were hitting the stand. The idea at the time was when you missed the 1st print, you missed out on owning the original $$ issue and 2nd or 3rd prints were just so that you could catch up on the story.

The only time a 2nd print did anything was Ghost Rider #5. Nothing came close to that type of fanatics until Batman 608 back in the turn of the century.

Is there a checklist somewhere for reprints? Or at the very least a checklist for those in demand? I think I have a few New Mutants 87 reprints, and I usually picked up at least one copy of the other reprints when they were noticeably different from the first print (e.g. gold or silver ink). Usually passed on the DC roman numeral reprints unless I didn't have the first print (which was the case for Superman #50).

That's the one I thought of too. Didn't realize #5 had a 2nd print.

I do recall a second print, but the first had such a large print run and demand

even with the punisher was still on the up tick. Now Ghost Rider # 1 I could

never keep in stock.

Yeah, but this book, 1st and 2d print were bagged and boarded Sabretooth was so hot for a while. Same probably true for NM 87. I'll dig around and see if I own any.
