i think this one is a no-show...........

flash56.jpg

althought there are many copies on the cgc cencus and i bet out there that are raw.

was it just overlooked when the gerber books were written?

why was it a no-show if there are so many copies around?

Thanks guys... very nice copies. BTW this thread is not restricted to just "white-spaces" in Gerber. Here are the different types of "no-shows" that I came up with-

1. Comics that Gerber could not find, i.e blank spaces.

2. Comics that Gerber didn't know existed-he has some comics as "may not exist" or very rare issues that have turned up since the Photo-Journal.

3. Comics that have correct entries but wrong covers- i.e. Jane Arden #2 or All-Top #6.

4. Comics that were inexplicably "skipped" in the Photo-Journal such as Diary Secrets #7 and #9 (unless these were labeled "may not exist") or the missing covers to Barney Baxter.

5. Comic runs that were cut off with only a few issues left- i.e. Champ Comics.

I think we have examples of all these in the thread.

Gerber Scarcity Index

Taken from The Photojournal Guide to Comic Books, by Ernst and Mary Gerber

G5 = Gerber 5 = less than average in existence.

G6 = Gerber 6 = Uncommon = between 50 and 200 still in existence.

G7 = Gerber 7 = Scarce = between 21 and 50 still in existence.

G8 = Gerber 8 = Rare = between 11 and 20 in existence

G9 = Gerber 9 = Very Rare = between 6 and 10 in existence.

G10 = Gerber 10 = Unique = less than 5 known copies in existence.

Would anyone hazard a guess as to to what ranking this would be?

I need to know so that I can place this in the correct thread:

Gerber 7's and above please! Can I see a 10?

or

To Be A Gerber "9" Or Not To Be, That Is The Question!

or

The Illusive Gerber "10"s

Can someone, please, point me too a list or chart that defines the numbers used in the Gerber Index?

Ex. Gerber 10 = less than 5 copies known to exist

So what are 9, 8 and 7?

5-25?

25-50?

50-100?

I need to know so that I can place this in the correct thread:

or

or

The Illusive Gerber "10"s

Gerber Scarcity Index:

Gerber 10: less than 5

Gerber 9: From 6-10

Gerber 8: Betwwen 11-20

Gerber 7: From 21-50

Gerber 6: Betwwen 50-200

Gerber 5: 200-1000

Gerber 4: 1000-2000

Gerber 3: More than Average

Gerber 2: Common

Gerber 1: Very Common, you can use these for firestarter in your fireplace on a cold nite!!!!

Also a note; Gerber was way off on some of these numbers, so it's not written in Stone!!!

Can somewhat tell me what Gerber lists for kite fun books?

I understand donald duck tells about kites has SCE, PG&E, and FP&L with

FP&L a no show. The blank indicia box I have would then be a no show?

What does it list about 1953 Pinocchio and 1955 Brer Rabbit?

Info appreciated.

what are some examples of Gerber 9-10's that have turned out to be significantly inaccurate? also, does anyone know any Gerber that have turned out to be too low?

Warrior comics is one right off the top of my head!!! (sorry a gerber 8),

Also All-Negro #1 (gerber 9)

I know there are many others, I made a little list for myself, but would have to dig it up!!!

Thanks, Blind Owl.

I don't know what to rank the comic as, much less which thread to archive it in.

I need a Photo-Journal to rank around 200 odd GA/SA romance comics I have.

It's been stated that since Gerber was NOT a big fan of Romance titles he simply guessed at most of them.

Of all the titles in his books, the Romance books are probably the books he was most off on as far as Scarcity Numbers!! I think on some of them they are probably MORE RARE than Ernie's estimates!!!!!!

Hi Dave, I tried to look for the books you mentioned but couldn't find them. I need more info. Are they from the "Four Color" series. I found Brer Rabbitt & Pinocchio (Four Color) but they were from the very early 50's or late 40's.

I didn't see anything from 1953 or 1955???

Those Kite books you mentioned I'm pretty sure are quite rare, but I need exact titles on these books.

The 1953 Kite Fun Book is "Pinocchio Learns about Kites"

1954 is "Donald Duck tells about kites"

1955 is Brer Rabbit - A Kite Tail

I heard the 1954 is listed in gerber, I don't know if the 1953 or 1955 are. They may not be because they are giveaways.

Thanks

Dave
