HEROES 2014!!! JUNE 20-22

So - which dealers will be in Philly and which ones will be at Heroes this year?

From talking to several dealers at MegaCon, Philly seems like the destination for most. In my mind, that's great, since that means many of my traveling buying competitors will also go to Philly. Since I buy primarily from smaller local/regional dealers anyway, and will have less buying competition at Heroes, I would say Heroes is shaping up very nicely indeed.

I'll be at Heroes

One of my highlights of the weekend; buying you a $8 Italian Sausage sandwich that I could probably make at home (and better) for less than a buck.

Since we never did go out, you still need to buy an appetizer....perhaps we'll meet up at Mac's Speedshop for some BBQ.

One day i hope all you out of staters will come to NC and eat real bar-b-que, not that chain .

Lead the way.

Midwood it is. Youll love it.

Hughes won't be there this year.

According to the guys at Heroes today, CGC WILL be in attendance this year, going against the previous assumption that they'd only be in Philly.

I heard the folks from CGC say at the booth last year that they did not expect to be at Heroes for 2014. This is good news! I'm assuming they realized that they would miss out on a significant portion of business considering the creators that are scheduled at Heroes this year.

While I don't mind using facilitators and appreciate their service, this does save me some money not having to use one now.

Eastern. :sumo: I dont mind lexington style with a bit of the red paste, but the far western style tastes like pork&ketchup to me. However i am waiting for Dales version before dismissing all red sauced barbecue for good. lol

I'm an eastern NC boy like you so I have to agree.

My animal science professor at NCSU told me that the reason there is a difference in sauces across the state dates back to the food sources for domesticated hogs years ago. Hogs grown in the eastern part of the state ate a diet of corn and provided a cooked meat that was typically white to grey so vinegar based sauce was used. Hogs grown in the western part of the state ate a diet high in acorns which caused the meat to have a greenish tint to it, so cooks used darker sauce to cover up the green.

I've never heard of the mayonnaise/vinegar sauce, but I have heard of the yellow mustard sauce that some talk about. :screwy:

So now along with getting a few sigs & sketches, some Sunday auctions, and hunting for a few books, I need to add BBQ and local brews to my HeroesCon to-do list. I usually look for a great wing place when I travel but all this talk about BBQ has changed my mind. I've been hearing good things about local/NODA craft brews also. hm

I've got to ask. Are most of these dealers probably ones that don't do Heroes anyway?

What's the place right across the street from the Convention Hall?

My son and I eat there at least 3 or 4 times while in town.... my son loves the wings there...

Are you talking about Fuel Pizza? They have pretty decent wings...
