Comics, Pulps, and Paperbacks: Why such a discrepancy in values? 25 25

I tend to just take a very quick picture and looking up later even though I don't think any of it does any harm.  Same thing with records since sometimes it's nice to listen to an album I'm curious about before buying.  I'll usually walk out of a good used record store with a stack of four or five but 10 or 20 pictures of albums to check out.

It very much depends on the store, I would think.  Checking a wantlist is 100%, every time, acceptable, and if they don't like you verifying if you have a book to hell with them.

Looking up values is a little bit more debatable, I would say it depends on your relationship with the store.  But in most cases it would be OK, the only time I would feel even slightly guilty is checking a book that I wouldn't buy otherwise to see if I could flip it.  And even then, that's a personal choice, not necessarily something wrong to do.

Yeah, it's a pretty refreshing price point, for real. Like this one, super common, lots of choices of copies between five and ten bucks and still one of my fave JD covers.

The smell!  It's different than the pulp smell.  Don't get me wrong, I love the varieties of pulp odors, but they can get downright skunky.  The pbs have a more refined scent even though it can get pretty strong - it's different than comics or pulps, I swear.  And still the sellers like to warn about the old smell far more than they do with mags and comics - it cracks me up.  I'm finding myself a little easier going on the often crappy packaging, too.  Even a book pretty much tossed in a manila envelope (not uncommon) seems to fare far better than when a seller does the same thing to a vintage magazine.  Still, how hard is it to put some cardboard around that puppy?

Yeah, I'm with Lowell. I don't even collect those books and I would have not left the store without buying every one of them.

Unboxing, cleaning, and scanning a bunch of new ones tonight, and I ran into this for the first time.  There's no worries or anything, as it is a 4 dollar beater, but what's with thus black glue? Original? Black? o.O

Another Beacon and a not so gorgeous copy, but downtrodden girls need love, too   This is one from the nice trove that came in from the seller Black Cactus pointed out.  None of the books were in good shape, but they were dirt cheap with a couple very nice paperback originals from big writers in there.

I've been trying to find the right copy of Orrie Hitt's Door to Door since Douglas recommended it to me, but I haven't quite found the right one.  This one will have to do nicely as an intro to Mr. Hitt.  I like the Warren King cover, too.
