What is the best deal you have ever gotten on a comic on eBay?

83 posts in this topic

I can't remember if it was from ebay or Heritage Auctions, but I picked up a Vampirella #3 listed as a 7.0 (fine/very fine) for $119. I thought the images of the book showed a pretty nice looking copy, and it was most certainly nicer than the copy I already had so I went for it. Once I got it I was impressed at how really nice it appeared to be and was wondering what I was missing that the seller listed it as 7.0. It did have a few light finger dents here and there so I sent to be pressed and was stunned it came back from CGC at 9.6. I did not expect that.

:whee:

I won an auction for a group of raw Hulk's 180 x 2 ( 7.0 and 8.0 condition ), a Hulk 181 ( 7.0 condition ), and 182 x2 ( a 4.5, and a 6.0 ).

I paid 850 for the entire lot, and i sold the 2 180's for 750, and the 2 182's for 100.

I ended up with a Hulk 181 raw 7.0 for free.

There's a boardie that bought a book for like 300 or something and sold it for like 20K a couple months later.

Hands down the all time ^^

Some nice scores...love the Golden Age steals!

My best deal:

Stumbled upon an auction late one night from a low-feedback seller for "Original Star Wars #1" with a blurry picture and description that read "nice condition" sitting at around $50 with a few minutes left. Normally I wouldn't even have clicked on the auction because I'm not really a big Star Wars fan and at $50 it wouldn't even be a great deal unless it was high grade. But, I was bored and took a look anyway. Although the pic was bad, I could just barely make out that it was a 35-cent variant!

My heart was pounding as I watched and then put in a bid of $1,000 with about 30 seconds left and was the high bidder at $58...but somebody else noticed as well in the closing seconds and bid me up to $800 before time ran out.

I was nervous, but when I received it I was thrilled...looked to be VF or better.

I had Joeypost press and submit for me and it came back a 9.0 which I sold for $3,900. :acclaim:

I was in the middle of my divorce at the time and that sure lifted my spirits and helped pay some attorney fees! lol

Got a raw captain america #3 for $1200. Terrible shape, missing centerfold, but hey, it's my grail.

As far as the one that got away: a cap #1 (coverless, with panels missing) came up sometime last year (or maybe early this year) with a BIN of $1100. I hesitated and it was gone. Whoever bought it then sold it on comic connect (or comic link, I forget which) for 8k.

Bought this raw on ebay for $1,400 back in 2001...I guess I paid "market" value for it back then, but I still consider it the best deal I've ever gotten on a comic on ebay. In the pre-CGC days, ebay was a bit of the Wild, Wild, West but there were great deals to be found if you knew what you were doing. :cloud9:

-Bought an early Action Collection (30-100) for $14,000 and flipped it a month later for $21,000.

-Bought a scrap album filled with Yellow kid comics for $300 and flipped it for $2800 (now wish I had this back).

-Bought a small GA collection about 6 months ago for $4k and have made my $4k back but still have the AllStar8 & Superman14 that were the big keys in the collection.

Many smaller victories but these 3 are my big ones.

Wow, that's nice. Did you have it graded? Looks to be at least a 6.0-7.0

Sounds like October's Thor #126 9.8, but that wasn't through Ebay.
