As always, I am looking for a few EC books.  I am still looking for A Moon, A Girl Romance #12 and Modern Love # 7.  I'm actually looking for a lot more  (you can look at my complete EC run in the CGC sets list to see what is missing). But this is my focus right now. If you are looking for some stuff I happen to have the following I could trade: International Comics 3 CGC 5.0, Modern Love 4 CGC 5.0, Modern Love 8 CGC 3.0.

Congrats; I also have a copy.  That issue is a "Gerber 6", meaning not all that common.  PCH was under the gun and not selling all that well in the fall of '54 and early '55, before the CCA seal came into effect with most March '55 comics.

I'm not sure I'll ever understand the thought process that goes into removing a comic that is in a CGC case. They typically sell for a little more and any number of things can happen to cause damage or downgrade once removed. Is it meant to be read? If so you can buy, as anybody knows, a reprint for pennies on the dollar. Maybe you never plan to resell, but if you do you will fetch less money for it raw than graded. This topic has been rehashed at least a thousand times, but I never fail to be surprised when I see comments about "freeing" a slabbed book.

Some prioritize the book, not the case or that ever-growing-larger number in the corner of the slab. 

The certified grade makes for an easier transaction when buying or selling. Once it's in a collection why not free it to enjoy and to read?

I'm on the other side of the fence. I understand but don't quite get why people would want to entomb their comics.

Reading the originals is more fun.  And in almost all cases, the reprints are never quite exact.  EC's, in particular, never seem to quite nail the coloring in any of the reprints.

I get there are exceptions where you want to keep high grade or very rare books in slabs.  But in general, I don't see the point other than to facilitate an agreed grade for the sale.

With all that said, I'm more than happy to agree to disagree.  We all enjoy our hobby in our own way, and I don't want to seem like I'm putting anybody who likes everything slabbed down.

I de-slab every entombed comic book I buy, because I buy them to read them, which is the reason they were produced in the first place. 

I'm not an investor, but rather a collector.  AFA the reprints, they are done in the smaller size that became prevalent well after the originals, so there's indeed a difference. 

In regards to EC's specifically, one of my favorite aspects is the letters page, only found in the originals, and give a sense of "being there".

A really nice thought and one I wanted to single out. Experiencing a 1940s/1950s comic (which includes, but is not limited to, "reading it") is a bit like time travel. It's fascinating to step back into this very different world.

I own a handful of slabbed books... as 4Gemworks reasonably notes, there are comics that it simply makes no financial sense to crack out. But I must admit, I simply don't enjoy them quite as much as raw books... it feels more like owning a poster. Subjective, but I miss that feeling of immersion that you get with a raw book, and I can't quite get there with a slab.

I hate when reprints change content. I bought a raw copy of Crime Suspenstories #25 recently, and one of the first pages (I think the first? I dont have the book with me right now) is dedicated to mocking the anti-comic hysteria that was taking root at the time of its publication. The $1 reprint from the 70s removed this, inexplicably. So there was a loss of something that made the original book unique.
