Tom Hardy May Have Left SUICIDE SQUAD Because It Focuses On 'Deadshot' And 'The Joker'

-----------------

Apparently, he just wasn't a fan of the -script, and he left the project under amicable terms (which is why the scheduling conflict excuse was used as a cover story). Why didn't he like it? It could be for any number of reasons, but the site goes on to add that the latest draft is rumoured to have beefed up the screen time of Deadshot (Will Smith) and The Joker (Jared Leto) at the expense of characters like Flagg.

-----------------

That would be a FDQ move if this turns out to be true, where he was concerned he was not in the lead.

Looks like Hardy is having a Birdman moment

As much as I like Tom Hardy, better this happened now than later on when the film is being made. Then it would have impacted production with extended scenes having to be reshot.

Or maybe not, if Hardy's concern was he was in much less of the scenes than his star power should expect. Though like his role in 'Inception' he could have been one of the core members with just enough scenes to drive home the point it was a combined team movie.

I agree. Eames is still my favorite Tom Hardy role. Totally owned the set!

Remember when Keanu politely passed on Speed 2: Cruise Control? :baiting:

Wait. The better question would be does anybody remember Speed 2? hm

SPOILERS: Major SUICIDE SQUAD Story Details Cover The Joker's Role, Twist Ending, And More

--------------------

Latino-Review have scored yet another major Suicide Squad scoop, this time revealing major new details on the plot of the David Ayer helmed movie.

--------------------

Latino-Review have scored yet another major Suicide Squad scoop, this time revealing major new details on the plot of the David Ayer helmed movie. We'll start with the most interesting details, and those are about The Joker. He apparently will be seen early on as Harley Quinn attempts to break him out of Arkham, but is later moved to Belle Reve by Amanda Waller in order to keep Harley in check. The site adds that, "He spends most of the film in a cell, very much like Hannibal Lecter, until he breaks out of prison in the end." An additional source tells them that he will escape during a prison riot at the end of the movie, murdering several people in the process!

--------------------

Rick Flagg meanwhile is the movie's good guy and keeps a watchful eye over Amanda Waller throughout. He's described as being more of a government agent than superhero, while the team will indeed be implanted with explosives to take them out if they attempt escape (though many of them do end up free during the breakout mentioned above). That big twist? Flagg is revealed to be a villain in cahoots with Rick Flag Snr., and it's this shocking reveal which may have led to Hardy reconsidering his role in Suicide Squad.

So that's what it comes down to why Hardy departed.

EXCLUSIVE: The Real Reason For Tom Hardy's Exit From 'Suicide Squad'

--------------------

Now, we've learned why Tom Hardy has dropped out of the project. According to sources, He simply didn't like the -script he was finally given, he didn't like the drastic change to the character. Like we figured, the scheduling conflict is a cover story, so he left the project under amicable terms.

The rumor is the latest draft of Suicide Squad has upped the screen time of Deadshot and The Joker at the expense of the lesser-villains in the movie like Rick Flagg. This also may have contributed to Hardy's exit.

--------------------

Once again, Latino Review delivers.

LATINO REVIEW: An Inside Look At Suicide Squad

:news: SPOILERS :news:

It actually matches some of the Batman: Assault On Arkham storyline.

--------------------

A draft of the -script has been finished and is being circulated between several executives pending a rewrite. The first part of the film concerns the capture of Lawton and Harley Quinn and afterwards they are taken to a maximum-security prison run by a warden called Waller. They are implanted with explosive devices and forced to be part of a mission where they are attacking an arms dealer's convoy. They are supposed to steal a weapon but end up capturing a woman called June, she has a split personality and her evil side is a sorceress.

Waller is tracking down and capturing every super powered hero and villain and it is implied that she is after Batman but he is not in the film, only mentioned and shown on camera footage. The film is being used as a set up for the franchises villains and not only the Suicide Squad. Belle Reve (the prison) is home to many of villains beyond the leads. The -script ends with a prison riot where most of them escape, including the Joker. The Joker has a large part in the movie but doesn't get involved in any action scene until the very end during the riot where he kills several people.

New Joker Jared Leto Says Batman Is Dead

jared-leto-joker.png

------------------

While participaing in a chat on Vyrt, a fan mentioned that Batman was an unseen hero.

Leto's reply to the fan?

"Batman is dead."

Obviously, Jared Leto doesn't mean Batman is really dead, but more than likely Leto is just talking smack meaning that there is a new Joker in town.

------------------

I like that he is coming out swinging already.

Dang!

Jake Gyllenhaal Passes On 'Rick Flag' Role In David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD

-----------------

'I don't take Hardy's hand-me-downs, EVER!'

-----------------

Just kidding.

-----------------

Unfortunately, he WON'T be playing Rick Flag! Variety reports that the actor has decided to pass on the project, meaning the hunt is back on for a replacement. With an April start date, there's no huge rush, but based on the cast - Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne - you have to imagine that David Ayer and Warner Bros. will be looking for an A-List star.

-----------------

Still sad to see him pass on the role. I do hope we see him in another superhero movie.

LATINO REVIEW: MARVELOUS DA7E 79

-----------------

It’s interesting to see two independent sources give the same summation, and it isn’t a half-bad plot. This has recently been expanded on by a Forbes report that says Batman will be in a whole SCENE in Suicide Squad, with the Joker, and that it will set up a solo Batman movie based off the third issue of The Dark Knight Returns, where Joker escapes. This would also introduce Ellen Yindel as the Police Commissioner of Gotham.

So - speculation land - Joker killed Gordon off screen, is imprisoned during Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, breaks out at the end of Suicide Squad and the new commissioner and Batman have to take him out while antagonizing each other?

SUICIDE SQUAD: Will One Of These Actors Play 'Rick Flag'? 'Deathstroke' Contender Rumored

-----------------

Those weren't exactly subtle hints so you've probably figured out that both Jon Bernthal and Joel Edgerton are the next names being lined up to star as Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, according to Cinemablend. Bernthal came to our attention as the doomed Shane Walsh on AMC's The Walking Dead, and also worked with director David Ayer in his WWII drama, Fury. Meanwhile Egerton has starred in a number of great flicks over the years, most recently playing Christian Bale's nemesis in Exodus: Gods And Kings.

-----------------

But I didn't realize this was being considered.

-----------------

They don't say which character he will play, but it won't be Deathstroke either, as they hear former True Blood wolfman Joe Manganiello is "in contention" for that role.

Intriguing New SUICIDE SQUAD Casting And Character Rumors; Joe Manganiello As 'Deathstroke'?

-------------------

For starters, the search for Tom Hardy's replacement as Rick Flag is seemingly still underway, but the studio is also looking to cast his father, Rick Flag Sr., who was previously rumored to appear in the movie. Joblo reckons that veteran actors Ed Harris and Max Martini are currently "under consideration" for that part while Karl Urban is now another contender for Rick Flag Jr. The site acknowledges that Urban's recently rumored role in Aquaman opposite Jason Momoa "would depend on which -script they use for that film [but] his name is still in the running for Flag."

-------------------

harris-martini-rick-flag.jpg

And now for the rumors.

-------------------

Furthermore, Joblo reveals that the supervillain known as The Thinker will also be in Suicide Squad, even though Australian actor Geoffrey Rush has passed on the role. And while past rumors said that actor Gary Sinise was being looked at to play General Eiling in the movie, it seems the role is actually for General Sam Lane, who, of course, is Lois Lane's father in the comics.

-------------------

-------------------

Anyhow, moving onto things you don't already know, the report further reveals that, yes, Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke is in Suicide Squad too. Regarding who could end up portraying the supervillain, Joe Manganiello is supposedly the top contender with Jason Clark also under consideration. Apparently Wilson will be a "hired assassin that is competing with the Suicide Squad," as opposed to a bodyguard or a member of the titular supervillain team.

-------------------

deathstroke-manganiello.jpg

-------------------

Finally, the mysterious Enchantress, played by Cara Delevingne, is said to be "really powerful and instrumental in the film’s prison riot finale" which is being described as "Crazy" in a good way.

-------------------

This is sounding more and more like a potential massive blockbuster if Ayer can keep this all together.
