So, the print run for New Mutants #98 was large enough to give every man/woman/child in Akron, Ohio their own copy?

Interesting.

Gotta move to Akron...

No, you really don't want to.

What happened to Akron? Dying town?

Some of my best memories as a late teen and young man are rooted in Akron. :cloud9:

Did you live in Akron, Roy? I work about 15 minutes outside of Akron but I worked in downtown Akron for about 10 years before taking this job.

They are probably the last run for the rule of 25 for comics, as the new generation that followed never bought comics in that quantity and found internet and video games. We won`t find many people heavily influenced by comics in the late 90's and up compared to a generation heavily influenced by comics in the early 90's.

I heard that buyers and readers are actually increasing. So all those young people who have been buying or reading comics for the past 15 years won't count because their memories won't be nostalgic?

I don`t really see any mainstream books that came out these last 15 years exploding in value like NM #98?

Deadpool might be considered the last mainstream character who Marvel and DC created who became big? Some other board members have done some digging, and it`s been about a 20 year drought since Marvel and DC created something new. Most that's what been created by Marvel this last decade have spin-offs of old characters.

I have an aunt and uncle and cousins just outside Loyal Oak just off Cleveland / Massilon Rd and I was also best friends with a family just outside Cuyahoga Falls and spent many a weekend partying in downtown Akron and at the Red Roof Inn just off Fairlawn in the late 1980's. My sister ended up marrying the oldest brother of my buddies down there.

I also lost *ahem* something down there for the first time that you can only lose once.

There were many good times had by this boardie in Akron. :headbang:

Did anybody see Deadpool becoming this big 20 years ago?

My 11 year old daughter started playing it. It looks pretty boring to me but so does Farmville and those type of games.

Minecraft is a raging success.

Yes it is. And it seems to have some lasting power. I just never got into it and now it seems kind of silly. But I know a lot of people that think comic books are silly.

My son and Lou's son played it incessantly. They're addicted and what is neat about it is that it's fairly PG and clean compared to many games. At least I think it is.

They all migrated to Miami 4 years ago. I don't doubt it one bit that they will return.

Do you think this comic is rising not just because of the movie but because the character could become like a character of our generation e.g like Hulk and Spiderman in the 60's?

It`s speculators who are buying it from other speculators for a flip because of the movie.

You will find that the newer generation are spending money and playing

screen480x480.jpeg

and not paying big bucks for NM #98.

My 11 year old daughter started playing it. It looks pretty boring to me but so does Farmville and those type of games.

I thought the same thing.... Then I played it... I'm currently in the middle of building a castle in the middle of a volcano with a lake in the middle... It's been about a month... And it's huge... I often get lost getting back to where I started.

Try it. ;)

My 6 year old started playing MC on her Kindle about a month ago. Last week she had Bookday at her school; she bought a MC guide lol. Crazy kids these days lol

What is there to burst? (shrug) It went from being a $450 book to an $800 book after a long awaited, much anticipated movie was announced.

There are certainly other books, particularly in the copper age, that are far more fraudulent and over-valued than this one to be worrying about IMO.
