Did you pay attention to Brub's comment in the letter col of issue # 2 where he was miffed folks misinterpreted what happened in issue # 1? I never went back to read it but I believe I also missed the boat based on his comment.

I missed the comment. What was the misinterpretation?

Great book, btw.

Scrooge, if you haven't had a chance to check out Velvet, you really should. Another great Brubaker book that's currently ongoing.

I am on top of Velvet :cloud9: Quite possible the best work of Epting' career but I have said with each new project of his from El Cazador to Cap to Velvet [Don't recall that his work on Marvels Project was as strong - I'd better re-read it]. This blows my mind btw since I remember Epting from his early foray in the '90's Avengers (# 335 to 375) in which I found his work sub-par and unacceptable for a series such as The Avengers. Good to see proven wrong!

So, YES for Velvet :headbang:

I think I am going to jump in albeit three months late...

I will have to update this as I go back and figure out what I have read previously starting since 2015-01-01. All of these outside of ASM and Valiant are read six months behind the rest of you since I subscribe to Marvel Unlimited.

Just reached the 200 threshold. I am currently involved in reading through an "Invincible" run at the suggestion of another boardie. I have come to find that the more moderns I read the more I cement in my mind that based on price per page count and dialogue, that moderns are not worth their purchase price off the newsstand. Invincible is highly entertaining but a very quick read.

Hammerhead,

What did you think of Outcast. I read that yesterday and I see it on your list and am curious.

Hi Scrooge,

So far I have been digging Outcast, it keeps me wanting more. It is not often I re-read my weekly's but I have read Outcast 1-6 twice now. I recommend it! What did you think?

It's a Kirkman book, right? It's rekindled my interest in his work. I was an early reader of The Walking Dead. Jumped on board circa issues in the teens then drifted away in the 50's. It's fresh work from him, there is enough revealed and yet not everything is clear.

I kept on comparing these first few issues to those of Wytches by Snyder and Outcast is better by a country mile: more clear, more linear, more interesting setting and much more fluid. It's got me hooked for more. It also helps that so far it's a more focused story than, say, Revival, where the occult going-ons are spread over a larger cast. Here, I want to know about the main character and we can sympathize to his silence about the fact that it was his wife who beat the kid and he's not telling others.

I would recommend it to anyone.

Now I got to read Outcast. I'll have to check it out soon. I'm way behind on Walking Dead too. Got to about the 50's or 60's. Invincible is great. I've read a lot of the Kirkman books.

You should definitaly check it out! It is one of my first reads each month. Most of the time I let my weekly's build up for a few months but not this comic.

@ Scrooge, I have not read Wytches or Revival.....am I missing out??

Wytches you can skip. Not worth your time. Revival is worthwhile. It straddles horror and peppers it with a little comedy but not at the expense of the horror side of it. However, 3 trades in and we've still not be invited in behind the curtain of the why and are only told about the what surrounds the "it" of the story, i.e., who and how people are exploiting these revivals. It has a good creep factor though. So, yes, try Revival out (most of my Image reading is from the Public Library so I have a low overhead cost of trying these out :) )

I read Invincible 1-116 and the 'returns' issue. I was impressed but it was an easy read. That does not diminish the quality of the series... just seems a bit short. I agree with the boardie that recommended it that this is Kirkman's take on Spider-man. I am looking forward to reading the next few issues to get completely current with the series.

I also noticed that I may have miscounted, so I put the numbers next to each series to indicate how many of each title I had actually read. Following the title are the issues read.

The author is more interested in the bucolic and naturalistic message in the struggles of this mixed (caucasian and native american) family circa 1840's (?) in the American West. Wonderfully nature illustration therein. The author, Derib, is better known for his longer running series about Yakiri, a native american youth and Little Thunder his horse, another series centered on animal life.

Thor: God of Thunder - # 16 - 25 - ct: 10 - A+++ Very sad to see this one end. Hoping I'll enjoy Thor the series that replaced this.

Avengers - # 24 - 35 & 34.1 - ct: 14 - Very good Hickman

New Avengers - # 13 - 23 - ct: 11 - Even better Hickman

All-new X-Factor - # 1 - 14 - ct: 14 - Average PAD; has a feeling of déjà-vu to it.

Black Widow # 1 - 10 - ct: 10 - If Notto wasn't drawing it, I am not sure I would like it as much.

Savage Wolverine # 14 - 22 - ct: 9 - Probably the best Wolverine series out there since it's done in anthology style with stories set in Wolverine's past in the pre-WW II era. Of course, this got cancelled.

All-new Invaders # 1 - 10 - ct: 10 - Robinson does his best to write an interest storyline for these

characters but it's always difficult to carry their history into relevance. It's mildly successful, still a B- series

Xenozoic Tales - count: 15

Marzi - Count: 10 - Childhood memories of the title character in '80's Poland before the fall of the iron curtain. Very well put together but soooo text heavy. Took me forever to complete these 230 pages since it's autobiographical and the image in many ways only support the text and don't carry the story themselves.

Onward towards our noble deaths by Shigeru Mizuki - ct: 15 - Non-fiction account of life and death as a Japanese WW II soldier on a pacific island and the repercussion of surviving a suicide attack. Let's just say, these guys were sent back to die on another hopeless attack while the officers were asked to commit suicide.

Vietnamerica - A family's journey by GB Tran - ct: 12 - Interesting bio comic about Tran tracing his family history around his parents' departure from Vietnam in 197? (can't recall). A lot of characters and family relationship to recall so this one is better in one sitting. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Avengers: 4, 5

Polly and her Pals, vol. 1 - 1913 - 1927 - count: 7

Update:

Marvel U. reading:

Thunderbolts # 31 - Juvenile. The worst comic out of 932 so far this year.

New Avengers # 24

Mighty Avengers # 14

Guardians of the galaxy # 19 - I don't understand how this crappy book can sell so many copies ???

Hawkeye # 15 - 20 - Failed experiments in this stretch. Was such a great book early in the run

Loki: Agent of Asgard # 1 - 6 - Interesting but confused

Ms. Marvel # 1 - 8 - I completely understand now the attraction I kept on hearing about. A+

The Punisher # 1 - 10 - Well put together

She-Hulk # 1 - 8 - Another good series

Winter Soldier: The bitter march # 1 - 5 - Really Good

X-Force # 1 - 4 - I quit at issue # 4. Pure dreck and not worth anyone's time as Cable & X-Force was prior to this. The only series I simply couldn't slog through.

Iron Man Annual # 1 - Interstitial stories. What's the point? An annual should be enjoyable outside of the main storyline and here tangential happenings are thrown at us. Big failure.

New Warriors # 1 - 10 - The sort of series that needs not exist ... not bad but not great. It just is and need not be.

Fantastic Four # 1 - 10 - Still unsold on the whole idea 10 issues in. Not a good sign ...

Black Science

T.2. Welcome, nowhere # 7 - 11 - Visually stunning with great coloring but the story telling is weak at times

Sex Criminals

T.2. Two worlds, one cop # 6 - 10 - Still of interest

Outcast

T.1. A darkness surrounds him - # 1 - 6 - See comments earlier in the thread. Positive!

The Manhattan Projects

T.5. # 21 - 25

Seconds by Brian Lee O'Malley - count: 14 - Yawn. Knew not what to expect. Came out trying to finish it as fast as I could as the story didn't fully grab me. Too few highlights therein to be worth the length.

Total: 825 + 107 = 932
